Hi folks. Nothing new just your typical new guy with questions here. I have yet to get involved with WoW but have been mulling over it for quite a while now mostly because I don't have a computer that could handle running the game. What I am asking here is what would be good specs for a PC to run this game? I don't want to hear "read the box" because I have heard so much about having to go beyond what the box recommends in order to have faster gameplay. I am pretty sure some of you guys here have installed hardware beyond the recommendations so please help. Thank you.

I say, read the box up til the graphics card spec. My card isn't quite the minimum required yet it seems to run aight.
Memory spec, I'm not sure I have either, but... *shrug* lol
Basically, take the box specs with a grain of salt, but it's only memory and graphics card I can really tell ya..
I was unsure aswell but I got it anyway and.. other than having to turn the graphics down to past minimal and getting major lag ('course that one could be 'cause I'm an aussie on a US server).. seems aight.
I got a warning on installing but that proved to be naught. I think the warning was about my graphics card.

I'm running a dual core X2 processor, and have little to no lag. I have 2gb of DDR2 ram. I run 60 fps in high traffic areas and instances, and like 80-100ish idle. Loading time is non existant. I'm also using an nvidia geforce 7800 GTX 512 card. So my computer is pretty beefy.
Now, this wasn't the first computer I installed WoW on.
Before this, I had a piece of crap Celeron that was made for word processing. It had like 200mb of ram. I got 8 FPS in Darnassus (lowest traffic area). Ran around 4-8 fps in instances. It took me around 1 minute to load into instances.
If you were to tell me the specs of your computer, I'm sure I could better help you. sweatdrop But I have to say the minimum amount of ram you want is like 500ish, and any video card is fine because I was using an on board POS card before.

I know right off the bat that I need a new computer. What I have is seriously dated (can barely run pre-school games for my little brother) and I'm going to just go ahead and get/build a brand new one. You have helped out tremendously. I'll be using your specs as my base for what to get.

My current computer is using onboard video and a five-year-old 2.0Ghz Intel.
My new computer is running a 512MB video card, 4 gigs of RAM, and a Core 2 Duo Intel.
My current computer runs at 15 FPS normally, and less in raids/BGs.
My new computer, my friend has one identical, will usually run around 80-100 FPS, with no lag, even when running FRAPS.

If you just want to play WoW on your new PC, no way do you need Kim's speccs - WoW is an older PC game & will run optimally on specs half that power. So, don't waste your money if you're just looking for the best performance for WoW. ;3
Optimal Min. Specs for WoW (my opinion only): 3.0 Processor 1G RAM 128MB (or better) videocard (preferrably not on-board <_<) WinXP
And most importantly (well, besides RAM) is your internet & location. You want DSL or cable, or you will suffer horribly high ping like me with my craptastical 28k dialup. And secondly, pick the right server location - hopefully you're not in Austrailia.
