I'm so freaking sick of competing companies coming out with films that have near identical concepts.

Especially because they all tend to suck and I forget about them as soon as the commercials end which is why outside of "Antz/A Bug's Life" I can't recall any names to offer up examples.

While I tend to agree with NeoBlue on the lack of original concepts for movies, Surf's Up does have some potential. That is, as long as the good ideas don't get burried in a lot of copycat cuteness.

This film seems to riff off ideas from many Pixar/Brad Bird movies and from Madagascar. I'm leaving my intelect on hold and crossing my fingers on Surf's Up.

I don't know if I like the idea of penguins as idiot stoner surfers (replete with bleached hair!), but at least it shows more creative character design than Happy Feet, which simply has... penguins dancing.

Since we're on the subject of sucky concepts and faggotry in films, here's one ad blitz that Max and I saw at a mall yesterday. And to think I really wanted to see this movie!

What kills this is the fact that Dreamworks has bought out Aardman's good will with the viewers with the following opening line: From the makers of Shrek and Madegascar. Strange, I don't recall Aardman making either of those movies!!!

Now if it had read From the makers of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit I might be a bit more forgiving.

Ye gods! I've seen those plastic toilet billboards with the offending Dreamworks tagline. evil

I'll have to work extra hard to erase the memory of that ad blitz and keep reminding myself that this is the future of Aardman animation. wahmbulance
