Belen was smiling and as such, purring; a low, happy rumble he had learned as a baby that set his fuschia fronds aquiver. His purr, while not native to his species, was a reasonable facsimilie to that made by Makana, his teacher and the object of much of his giant affections. Small as he may be -- he only came knee-high to Quinn -- his personality could rival that of someone several times his size.

This substantial magnetism was evident as Belen made herculean leaps down the sidewalk ahead of Quinn, purring as loudly as possible when he wasn't laughing. He wore a smock which was open in the back to allow his tail to swing free over a long-sleeved t-shirt, a scarf and little else. The olives and rusts of his clothing echoed the fall hues in the trees. As shocking as his attire might seem, he was actually wearing more clothing than usual; the n** in the air effected his cold-blooded nature.

He loved Fall; loved the colors and the smells in the air. He reveled in the stories his mother told him of Halloween and hay-rack rides, he couldn't wait to experience them for himself. Even if the lack of humidity in the air dried his skin out more quickly that usual and the water he poured on himself to combat this made him shiver, he still had a smile on his creamy face.

A final giant leap landed him in front of the entrance to the park and he bellowed a "Hurrah!" as he beakoned Quinn to hurry. It was a balmy fall day, somewhere in the mid-sixties, so a trip to the park was a welcome chance to get out of the house. As his mother caught up to him, he scampered off and hopped into a swing, legs and tail flying.

Warmer for both of them, this way...and the young sugar glider was also bundled in a warm coat of her own, that she left purposefully unbuttoned. If she threw her arms wide for a jump, the jacket would flare as well!

They were just passing the park, but it wasn't the sign that caught her attention. Something fluid and pale, like a white kitty, just dashed by! Like a kitty with pink ears...but it had been wearing clothes!

"Aki? Akiakiakiakiaki-"

"Yes, Saara?!" Aki's voice was a bit sharp, but she meant nothing by it. Simply because she didn't respond a nanosecond after being asked a question didn't mean she wasn't going to answer!

Saara pointed, thin claw extending towards the entrance. "There! See it? Did you seeee?" Her tail whipped to the side, shifting for balance as Saara leaned forward on Aki's left shoulder.

Leaning a bit to the side under the girl's weight with a wince, Aki nodded and angled for the park. Saara was getting too big for this! It was easier when her weight was distributed over both shoulders, at least.

Shifting fully to one side, pulling her legs under her, Saara suddenly stood...stretching tall like a meer kat to see if she could spot the scampering white thing again.

There, on the swings!

Ignoring whatever it was Aki was protesting about, Saara darted downward....spiraling down her guardian head first and hitting the ground running.

"Saara! SAARA, hang on! WAIT for me!" What had gotten into that child? Hustling after the headstrong glider, Aki pulled her slingbag strap over her head to cross her chest to the other shoulder, to be sure it wouldn't slip as she ran.

The girl didn't go far. Standing tall upright once again, hands resting on the back of a low plastic horse attached to a thick spring, Saara peered at the child on the swing.

He wasn't boring and pink! Not at all!. Her ears perked as she kept watching, attentive and silent...little silver earrings catching the light.

Aki paused at the park entrance...one hand on the nearest tree as she caught her breath and looked around for Saara. Spotting her, the elf relaxed...slumping down on a nearby bench. It was going to be a long day. She could tell already.

"Momma! Push me," came Belen's bellowed request. He knew the basic principles of pumping one's legs to make the swing move, but his tail always tried to get in on the action too and sent him careening in every direction but the one he wished to travel in.

"Please?" Quinn reminded the boy. He was polite as a general rule, but sometimes manners were forgotten in the excitement of the moment.

"Please push me," he replied, showing a properly chastised face. He squeeled as Quinn pulled him back, hands resting on the front of the toddler swing, legs kicking in anticipation. He had tried the big kid swing once, but even now, when he was much bigger than before, he still felt safer in the confines of the "baby" swing. The world was not built for someone of his size.

A rogue glint of light caught his eye as he swept downward and he peered around the playground everytime he came back down until... THERE! "Momma! Momma! Stop me! ... Please!"

Quinn grabbed the swing and brought it to a gentle halt, wondering what had caused Belen to react in such a way. Ussually, it was her begging to stop pushing long before he was tired of swinging. She held her hands out to him and the axoltl used them to spring forth from the swing and he hit the ground running; strong legs carrying him quickly over to the newcommer.

He stopped just shy of the horse, toes pointing inwards and slender fingers waving a gentle hello.

Saara ducked back down behind the horse as the boy rocketed off the swing...ears still perked, and eyes wide. She wasn't scared...rather, as soon as she was spotted, her only bit of shyness surfaced.

As soon as he ambled to a halt, Saara peeked up again, nose lifting as she sniffed. He smelled like the water fountain! "Hiii." She waved just like he waved, with her pink little hand.

Aki leaned forward, elbows propped on her knees as she watched the pair. Saara had found someone her own size! Rather shocked at the coincidence, Aki slipped out from under the strap of her sling bag and set it aside. Good for Saara!

Reaching forward, not quite touching, Saara pointed at the pretty pink frills On Belen's head. "Kitteh ears?" She'd never seen anything like it, and was obviously quite taken.

Belen took Saara's words as a grand compliment and he began, once more, to let forth with his purring noise. "Wait 'til Makana hears," he thought, excitedly. Not wanting to lead the creature wrong, however, he shook his head and replied, "Nope. These'r my fronds. That's what Momma says. You ken touch 'em. Feels nice!"

He held his head out to Saara and touched himself on the chest, "I'm Belen."

Eyes still wide, Saara reached forward...brushing her hand gently over the fronds. As soon as she touched them, she grinned....ears dropping to lay normally once again. "Vury nice!" She agreed. "Pretty, frondears!"

Taking her hand for a moment, only to reach forward and poke Belen on the same part of his chest, Saara beamed. "Belen! Hi! Hiiii! I'm Saara." With the greeting out of the way, she reached up with both hands to comb one of her ears down...tugging it forward so Belen could see her piercings. "I got my fronds earrings. Didn't feel so nice."

Almost instantly distracted by the slowing motion of the swing, Saara twisted to stare at Quinny for a moment. "Your mama? Huh! Wanna play?"

Belen looked back at Quinn for the OK and once received, blessed Saara with one of his trademark face-spliting grins. He ran over to Quinn for a quick dousing to keep his skin moist, shivered a bit at the chill of the water in the fall breeze and dashed back over to Saara. "Whatya wanna do?"

He actually wanted to play! Flopping back, Saara wiggled with delight, taking an impromptu dust bath that really only managed to smudge her coat. Whipping back to settle on all fours, tail animated behind her, the sugar glider returned his grin. She didn't even ask why he had to go get a bath all of a sudden!

"Anything, anything! Weeeee couuuuuld...." She glanced around as they chatted, eyes skimming over the obvious sources of entertainment in favor of the more obscure ones. Oh! The fountain! "Get shines! From the waaaater!"

Aki didn't much like it when Saara fished change out of the fountain, but it was an age old tradition with the kids in their family. Secretly, she blamed the pirate.

Belen was infected by the sugar glider's enthusiasm, beginning slowly, but soon, bouncing as much as she. "Shineys?" he questioned, eyes glittering in excitement. "In the WATER?! I like the waters. I can breave in it!" His tail quivered with barely contained elation as he veritably ripped his clothing off.

Running circles around Saara, sometimes on two legs, sometimes four, he waited to be led to the water.
