Are there any good math or science books out there? Fiction or nonfiction... Mysteries or biographies... I just need something interesting to waste some time. I know some mathematicians had very unusual lives, so I am sure that some interesting books about them. Or maybe a book that is like the show numbers, or something just cool and fun to read? Anything?

It's more logic than anything else, but Godel, Escher, Bach is a wonderful book.
Road to Reality by Roger Penrose was a very good book, in my opinion. Some bits are a tad condensed, but it is a very good framework for building up the mathematics and the physics necessary to get a grasp of the various TOE attempts.

That one looks really interesting! I think I am going to try to find it.

Look for Douglas R. Hofstadter. He's basically the authority on recursion and self-reference. All of his books are good, but I think GEB is probably the best starting point.

"How to find out about self-reference:
Ask yourself what is self-reference.
If you know, you're done.
If you don't, ask the person that is one step closer to Douglas Hofstadter."

OOh! Try Origins by Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson. It's quite a good read for the cosmic structure of the universe and he cites some amazing facts about our existence in that book.
Also, Hawking describes the universe in an understandable way. I really like that guy a lot!!! heart

I'm currently reading Euclid In The Rainforest by Joseph Mazur. It's a book about the nature of proof and logic in math. It's pretty light and easily understood even for amateur mathematicians.

You can also try my favorite the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. It's a LONG book series and falls under the "Fantasy" genre of books, BUT Robert Jordan IS a physicist...so there ya go!

I liked that book... Read it a while back... I am currently reading philosophy books and several evolutionary biology books right now... With most of my classes this semester being math, I got tired of reading about math. >.<

The Science of Star Wars is a very good book. it discusses aliens, planets, droids, the force, weapons, and spacecraft. granted its around 10 years old, so some of the facts are a little out-of-date. but its still really interesting.

Flatland by Abbot is a fun read and short too. It is a fantasy about parallel dimensions and geometry. There's also deeper societal issues such as equality, the questions about what makes one 'godlike', and dealing with knowledge vs the common belief. I've read it about three times since the summer.
