I am not a big fan of the older stuff, but from Spiritual Black Dimensions till present day, its awesome.
They are what Black Metal should be.
Well produced and pompous.
And they look better than any other Black Metal band, image is important in this genre.

I don't mind them, but Shagrath's vocals aren't my thing.

They are what black metal should be: ******** NO.
Well produced and pompous: You mean over-produced.
Image is important in this genre: Once again, no.

They are NOT black metal, except for the first two albums.

I would have enjoyed seeing Shagrath continue on with Fimbulwinter instead of leaving that group to create Dimmu Borgir. But the first two albums were pretty good. Can't say I much enjoy the albums after those.

Personally, I like Dimmu Borgir. Then again, I also like Cradle of Filth, so I supposed that makes me lose most credibility.

Meh, I like Dimmu Borgir, They're not my FIRST choice in black metal but they are definitley good. And I hate Cradle of Filth, so I don't lose credibility.

It seems to me that Dimmu Borgir's claim to fame happened a lot quicker than I expected it to. A long while back I was listening to Stormblast, and I thought that was an exceptional title. But, it seemed right after that album, they completely flipped their style on everyone. From Stormblast to Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, that is a great change ov music.

However, it was for the better! Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, sporting English vocals, and a very solid sound, it certianly paved the way ov their music direction, and fame.

But, they surprised me yet again two years later with a demo ov Spiritual Black Dimensions. Shortly after, their CD came out. And all that can be said about that is, "Stunning". Not as powerful or collected as Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, but certianly more defined, I was blown away.

Now, moving down the timeline ov Dimmu Borgir, we fall upon the most explosive portion ov their discography. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. This is their most potent and loud/powerful album to date. Easily ranked my favourite from the master minds ov Dimmu Borgir. Especially the track "Hybrid Stigmata - the Apostasy". Most certianly their peak ov their talent, it was utterly amazing.

As we conclude this little tour ov Dimmu Borgir's discography we fall upon, as I see fit, their weaker ov albums, Death Cult Armageddon. Having nothing that has not been done before, or just having deviated from the Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia style, it was not as powerful. Actually, it appeared to have lacked something.... And I dear say transition. The songs would just be interesting enough. But it did come with that second disc with tributes to Bathory and Twisted Sister....

In conclusion, if you have been a dedicated fan ov Dimmu Borgir, you will quickly see that it is about time the get recognised for their talent.

Especially seeing them on a mainstage at OzzFest in San Antonio! Wow!

In my opinion, their best two discs are the two firsts.. before ever discovering them, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was my favourite album from Dimmu Borgir.. but it got boring quickly in comparisson to the greatness of the first two albums.. so I decided to quit Dimmu Borgir on a whole except for their purely black metal period (though I still enjoy Spellbound by the devil).

people automatically assume they are black metal, when, in reality, they are melodic black metal (completely different genre and explains the different sounds as they go) they are and will always be one of my favourites
