The early morning sun was just starting to bathe the man's oasis in its golden glow. It was transformed from a playground of shadows and mangled forms into what it truly was - a beautiful testament to what men could achieve. But the lions ruled here now, and they had a very different way of appreciating these ruins.
Eventhough the sun was just rising, one cub had been awake for a while now, her incapability of staying still forcing her wide awake and ready to play. And so it was that Dhiki, one of the most recent daughters of Nyekundu, wriggled squirmed through the piles of furs as though they were massive worm-monsters to be defeated. Or they were a mountain to be conquered. Even in the dim light, Dhiki's pink form was easy to discern in the shadows.

Unlike her sister, Raylan was very capable of a good night's rest. Though, often times it happened to be riddled with dreams she could neither explain or comprehend, and often times she could never even remember them. She blamed it, most times, on her father's cruel attitude towards his daughters - but she would neither admit that or tell him to his face. She would never tell anyone, for fear of her own life, not even her sister.
However, Raylan had accustomed herself to waking with the sunrise, even at this young cub stage - so it was not unheard of for her to follow Dhiki soon out of the cave. Sometimes, even, she was up before the pink cubbess herself. Today, however, she woke only in time to see the ghost of her sister's shadow.
"What are you doing up so early, Dhiki?" came the gentle words, tangerine eyes gleaming with their yellow backlight, even in the dim light of pre-sunrise. She sauntered slowly after her, peering from the cave mouth, out at the land of their father.

Dhiki didn't even turn her head to address her sister, much more pre-occupied with this new game - pounce the rugs. She practically threw all of her weight into her paws and slammed herself against the mountain of furs, as if it was something living to be killed. So involved was she that she even made growling noises and furrowed her delicate little face into a snarl.
"Stuff's got to be done. Things have to be pounced, critters have to be chased, walls have to be climbed," she explained non-chalantly, refusing to be pulled away from her imaginary adversary.

Raylan snorted, rather unamusedly, as she watched her sister go about aimlessly attacking the pile of furs. She sat, calmly and elegantly, down upon her rump - those eyes concentrated upon the other she had known since birth, the closest being to her in her life.
"You know father will be very angry if you mess up his furs," she said calmly - not even bothering to go into what would happen if Nyekundu got angry. In Raylan's opinion, anyone within a small radius of this oasis would know exactly what would happen. In a sense, she figured that her father's temper was so bad that everyone knew.
She flicked her tail, glancing outside the cave, filled with that familiar ache to explore the outside world - when she knew, from her mother's words and her own attempts, that she couldn't get out of the oasis no matter how hard she tried. "You should put that energy into attacking different thing, at least that accomplishes something."

Dhiki was not the sharpest pencil in the colouring box. She much preferred to learn things by running into them, touching them, biting them and enevitably, destroying them. But today, she was quick.
"Father isn't here. He's been gone for a few moons," she said, panting and out of breath. She finally admitted defeat and clambered down the pile, calling it a draw.
The pink bundle of fur shambled over to her sister's side and flopped onto her back in a playful manner, waving her front paws about as if to goad Raylan into a bit of play-fighting.

Raylan snorted at her sister's words, looking past the girl as she examined the pile beyond - there didn't seem to be too much damage to the beautiful furs beyond, but that didn't mean their father wouldn't notice the smallest flaw in them. She sighed, glancing angrily towards her sister.
"Just because dad isn't here, Dhiki, doesn't mean you shouldn't obey his rules. He may be gone, but when he comes back and sees what you've done, as little damage as it is, he's going to be very angry," she hissed it out, eyes narrowed lightly, "I'm not taking the cover for it, either. The last thing I want is to be punished by.. him."
She snorted, reaching out to playfully bat at her sister's ear - as tired as the other seemed to be with her ruthless fight against the mound of skins.

It would seem that Raylan's words had floated right through Dhiki's head, as she didn't say anything right away. Instead, she took her dark sister's tiny inclination to play as a full on invitation and she pounced!
"You should learn to relax Raylan," she said, mouth full of her sister's ear. "When he gets back, we can blame it on someone else."
Already, Dhiki was picking up bad habits from her father.
