It could.
Without reading a whole lot of the decription, here is my two theories
1) The marines could have brought back the SPARTAN program, this taking place after halo 2, because the marines had Battle rifles. And the armor is different.
2) this takes place during the books, contradicting the BR new armor theory. This would be the point of the first strike, or the flood. Becuase there are still multiple spartans. And MC (John) is the only one that survives, let alone the Seargant Johnson-spartan theory.

this confused me a little bit because the first contact with the convanent according to The Fall of Reach would be at about february 3, 2525 at about 1423 hours above the obrit of the planet Harvest by the ship Argo
if this is truely the case, Harvest was the best produce/agricultural planet in the outer colonies. in the trailer it is a snowy landscape. also Harvest was glassed. soo...
Just what planet are we on? also if this is about the actual time that would explain the amount of SPARTANS......but not how they all have BR's..
still, the trailer was
"UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE"
also, just by looking at the armor, it would appear to be something like a MARK V.5... or something. i still need to look at the still image.
...ok to me it could be one of a few things. it could be
1) a new armor type
2) a re-vamped MARK V and due to the new textures we don't notice it to be the MARK V we know from Halo 1
3) the helmets, and overall armor have more curves, and are less boxy, or square like angles. it also has less black matte under armor.
4) i looked at it again and the differences are the helmet, shoulder parts, fore-arm and gloves have the most changes. this could be, and is probably just Ensemble Studios additions to the armor, and means nothing toward plot, or armor background.

hey, i just checked the www.halowars.com and the timeline is set BEFORE halo 1
here's the quote

This is general feeling from the Halo Wars Forum:
Consider this first: There are other story arcs to the saga, not just the Master Cheif/Cortana/Halo bits.
1) Before Halo: CE
This means, no flood, no Forerunner. Their maybe other forerunner stuff, because we don't what ONI has covered up. Only the makers and those who have seen the HSB do.
2) The BR has been around ffor a while
It has. Long enough for several crates to be deposited in CASTLE, deep underground. It's possible that there were some on the PoA. Remember, the Spartan weapon locker, which was loaded with ten kinds of kick-a**, was blown up during the fighting.
3) It's a just a trailer, so STFU about it already.
Also, there is that there was an armor before the one you had in Halo CE. Remember than Cheif had gotten new, shielded armor just before the fall.
And, they may not have the old school model availble for the kick-a** graphics, and don't want to spend time/money updating it.
And is it just me or are those elites look ten times more awesome than before? Like Predators, except way more badass.
Also, we should be glad we are finally really getting BLAM! As Bungie had first designed. It used to be a third person tatics type of game.

geki_neko it looks cool and the cov. looks friging huge in this The covenant are always huge. in the halo CE instruction manual that comes with it, it explains the basic units. Elites if I remember correctly are abou 8-9 feet tall... and the puny grunts arent as puny as you think. THe grunts are actually five feet tall.

I know, I fgured out ow to play XBL, I might get a 360 later and therefore play live, AND get Halo Wars and Halo 3.
