I'm currently a student who is rahter close to the middle of her college career. I am at the moment a psych major but I'm becoming very active with my universities theatre department outside of class. I'm trying to find a way to convince my parents to let me minor in theatre and to convince them to help me pay for the classes. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appricated.

Tell them how much you are enjoying being involved in the theatre. More education is never a bad thing. You can always be involved in theatre on the side when you decide what your doing with psych. It will also broaden your resume with other activites. It's also could be a case study of different types of people your interacting with! wink

Tell them it helps you deal with difficult people and diffiecult circumstances. If that doesn't work, you can always try the line, "But it'll help me with public speaking." That's what I used on my mother.

Theatre helps you relate to people. You meet a broad spectrum of different personalities and become a community and try to get along. It's like a city junior. I'd throw in the whole relacom thing, getting used to people outside a psych major and all that loveliness.

Good luck working your parents over. heart

Just tell them you really want to do it. My mom wasn't happy when I told her I wanted to be a theatre major, but after I pressed the issue and showed that this was definetly what I wanted to do, she loosened up a bit.
