This movie was definitely not what I had been expecting it to be. I saw it with my girlfriend, and she didn't think it was worth being called a children's movie at all. I disagree. There are some frightening elements in the movie (it can't rightly be called a film, since it's entirely cg), but there are frightening elements in Disney's Snow White, as well, which is considered a classic children's movie. If you have kids that are easily frightened, though, I suggest not letting them see this, because it will scare them.
Overall, though, it's a very good movie, and the animation is almost comparable to FF7. It's more cartoonish in nature, especially the people, but that's come to be the norm with American animated movies, and the style is becoming increasingly refined with each new release.
Like most animated movies, there are extra scenes during the credits, so it's worth sticking around to see them wink
