I don't like saying characters I hate. There aren't any that really qualify anyway, and the one that comes to mind first for dislike is mostly a case of how he was handled, since I like manga!Raven (and not anime!Raven). Though Gene irked me a lot during the ending of Genesis with his going on about being a god. Too much ego for a villain that Gildragon could have just STEPPED on if the writers let it, I say!
For likes? I never can pick an absolute favorite. There's too many characters and it really varies based on my mood and what I've been watching or reading. So you get
three HAHA FOUR.
*looks down at post* ...maybe this would have been better off in favorite characters, but that topic's more listy, and this one you asked me to ramble. People are usually sorry when they do.
I've been poking part of his story
recently, so I'll put in a good word for
Wolff (yes, he's Prozen's son), who's likely the best-known character from the model universe. Most people know him for his hair (which
is quite amusingly pointy), but I like more that he's the first one in his family line to DO something about the deep hatred that built between the factions over the years, and in a far more selfless way than the usual teaming up of rivals against villain they both dislike theme.
In the obscure camp (because obscure characters need love and speculation IS fun), I'll say Shuu. He's this youngish and
very 80s (he's the one in blue with the fluffy hair) guy who led the group of pilots going to poke Nyx back in the days of the funky glowy Dark Zoids. He started out as a scientist (a career his dad apparently poked him towards after his brother got killed in combat) and had to learn how to fight rather quickly in rather unfriendly territory. He did
pretty darn well, too, until that incident with discovering that Gilvaders can fight both in the air and on land and that they like to eat Mad Thunders. Oops.
He also was a Gunbluster fanboy, and I can identify with that. So
shiny...
Aaand I'll defend RD. A lot of people brush him off as cocky or whiny-and he often is early on, though he's still capable of working coherently in a team most of the time. He's starting to learn by the middle of the series, and his ego gets smacked down HARD when the Fire Phoenix is killed because of his rivalry with Blake. From then on he's less arrogant (even if he does bounce back a bit quickly), and he shows a good amount of quick thinking for what amounts to a sports fighter in a number of episodes, including when Alpha's plan starts up and the everything goes to hell. As much as I like Bit, I don't think he'd have held up as well if the chaos of the Royal Cup had been in the middle of a city full of people he cared about.
Finally, Camford, because hardly anyone appreciates older characters. She's not a cool shiny pilot, but in all the universes she's in it's obvious that she's been through a lot of crap and won't put up with it either. I'm sure she'd rather be nice to everyone, but she knows there are times when that won't cut it because a lot of other people
aren't nice. Strong female characters that are strong in ways other than kicking a** are very, very underrated and underused.
There's also something really amusing about the way she can cuss out (or taunt, in Prozen's case) someone in polite Japanese. Like the Heldy in the manga-which not only listens to her, it runs away along with several soldiers because she's the President and she's
scary when she's mad.
I very vaguely think I remember seeing the episode with Rokai when it first aired and I didn't know Zoids for what it was. I swear I remember the CW, at least. (you can tell what I focused on first, much as I love a lot of the characters)
