The elder of twins was still new to the world, in fact so far she had spent her life snuggled against her mother's side. Sleeping, feeding and mewing in her sweet, high-pitched voice.
Now though, her eyes had opened and she had found her paws and though she was still clumsy when it came to walking she was beginning to learn.
The dawn now set it's large golden eye upon a tubby little cub, whose mocha pelt shone with the reflections of her past generations. Her tail rose up into the air as a flag and her maroon shadowed eyes widened as she set eyes across the lands that belonged to her grandfather and grandmother.
Here in this wonderful place she was surrounded with relatives and though she had yet to meet any of them she knew it would only be a matter of time.
Hababuu was all too ready to explore and with a small mewing sound she moved forwards across the ground, slowly and carefully so that she would not fall.

Damu'Jicho had, like his twin, spent the first small section of his life curled up in a small ball at his mother's side, battling with his siblings blindly for the sweet, warm milk and generally just existing with no point or purpose. Then his blood-stained eyelids had cracked open, revealing orbs the color or warm chocolate. His awareness grew and grew, his sense of smell strengthening, his cream-tipped paws taking their first wobbly steps. It had been a sort of amazing adventure for all the cubs, these first few new experiences. But it was time for bigger things.
It didn't take any time whatsoever for Damu to realize that he liked being alone. He often seperated himself from his siblings (except for Hababuu - the binds of a twin were much stronger than that of just siblings). When his mother had begun letting them wander out of the cool den, it was only assumed that Damu would wander farther than the others, push his boundaries. It was what he had done that day, unsteady on his tiny legs.
He wove in and out of tall, golden grass, his eyes wide with wonder and an innocence that would quickly vanish in his later years. It was then, with the sun warm on his back, that he spied the grand black and yellow butterfly. He wanted it. And so he stumbled after it, nearly snagging it between his jaws twice before his paw knocked it close enough to pounce. He tumbled to the ground, the delicate creature smushed beneath him, still flapping pathetically. He stared at it a moment, confused by the slackening of motion and then...He settled his romp to the cool earth, bending his nose to take a wing between his teeth and pull it. He didn't know why he did it. It was just an overwhelming urge to make it stop moving, make it stop flapping.
He glanced up, half a wing dangling from his small, pearly baby teeth and saw Hababuu making a path opposite his direction. He mewled quietly to his sister, ears swivelling forward. He wasn't the loudest of creatures, letting, instead, the wind carry his greeting to her.

His quiet greeting met Hababuu's ears with ease as if somehow her senses were intuned with his own. How she had not sensed him nearby before now was quite a surprise, but then, she had been quite entranced by the vastness of this new world.
Her head turned towards him, her own deep brown eyes glistening with joy at seeing her twin and in a moment her own high-pitched mewl rose up in reply.
"Da-moo!" She squeaked, pronouncing his name with the slightest hint of affection. "What'choo got theres?" She asked as she plodded slowly over to him, raising her forepaws right up to her chin so that she did not trip on the small rock blocking her path. She didn't want to fall down in front of her brother!
"Does yoo want share?" She reached forth a paw to try and tap gently at the dangling wing which had so recently been torn from it's place. Having never seen a butterfly before and not knowing the concept of death she had no reason to be upset or annoyed.

The young cub's tail rose, his ears swivelling forward in a display of happiness. A grin readily came to his mouth at the sight of his twin sister. To no one else did he show this rare smile, this ever rarer mood of happiness. He was a surly child through and through - even to his parents.
As she got closer, he lifted himself to all fours, giggling at her over-exagerrated leg movements. He raised a paw when Hababuu came in range, pawing sweetly at her nose. He loved his twin dearly. "Dunno. It was flying, but now it won't move no more," he said, glancing between his paws to the crumpled, beautiful figure. He had no concept of life and death either at such a young age. It was expected of him to know that one shouldn't pry the wings off a living creature for the simple pleasure of making it not move anymore.
He shook his head, dislodging the papery wing from his tooth. Damu made a slight face, wrinkling his nose at the bitter taste. "It don't taste vewy good," he muttered, sticking out a paw to prod at the insect. "But yoo can play with it too if you wanna." He stepped back slightly, allowing his sister copious amounts of room to play with his treasure.

She smiled back at him, glancing from his face - that so perfectly mirrored her own - down to the lifeless bug that had been snagged so prematurely from life.
"How can somethin' so pwetty no taste good?" She questioned in slight disbelief - but made no move to eat or chew on the 'pretty thing' herself. She was coming to learn to trust her brother completely and if he said it didn't taste good then it didn't...even if it was pretty.
Then extending a tiny claw from her paw she moved to impale the wing that had not been smushed by her brother's teeth and flicked it upwards, watching as it fluttered up and then sailed back down. Then with a high-pitched giggle she bounced forwards in an attempt to tackle her brother in a playful tussle.
"Yoo be more fun to play with than the fluttery!" She replied.

Damu watched her carefully as she investiaged the butterfly for herself. It was surreal in a way, almost like he was watching his reflection or his shadow. He didn't understand the concept of being a twin either. He just knew that Hababuu looked like him and that he liked her best out of all his other siblings. Not that he didn't like the others...but he preferred the company of Hababuu. He even would get a tad jealous if her attention wandered from him for more than a few minutes.
His small shoulders shrugged upwards. "Dunno, but it not good t'all." He backed up as she flicked the pretty thing up in the air, raising a paw to bat at it as it travelled slowly and lifelessly to the ground. So wrapped up in watching the sun glint off the various colors and facets of the gossamer wings, he didn't even see his twin's pounce.
He tumbled backwards with a small 'oof', giggling at the same time. Grinning evilly, he wrapped his paws around her neck loosely, pulling his head up to latch on to her ear, tugging gently. One thing he had learned was that he couldn't be too rough when playing. Mother and father would scold him if he hurt one of his siblings. "Yoo're better than an icky fluttery too," he laughed.

And Hababuu would always be quite willing to give her younger sibling attention. She favoured him over all the others just because he looked like her and in her mind that had to mean something.
They were so alike in appearance that it seemed only right they be the best of friends as well as siblings. It was as if they were the same lion but split into two, she was him and he was her and for as long as she lived she would protect him because if he died she would die too - in heart if not in body.
Giving a small whoop of joy as her pounce landed she squirmed to try and free herself from his grip. "Rawr!" She tried to wriggle free by backing up, her tail tangling with hwer hind legs so that she became briefly unable to move.
"I shou' hope so! Or else I be all jealous of the fluttery and yoo wouldn't like me when I'mma jealous!" She giggled and tried to free her ear from his teeth.

Damu, at even such a young age, knew that he'd give his life to protect his twin. They were split into two parts, and it would be only later in their lives that Damu would realize why he needed her calm sweetness so terribly. For now he just knew that she was his absolute most best friend in the entire world...even if he was fond of his other siblings, too.
He slobbered all over her ear, giggling the entire time as she tried to clamber away from him. One thing Damu was already displaying was a very masculine strength - or perhaps it was just his determination to win all the time. "'course you are, silly. All the fluttery does is fly and then stop flying when you hit it. S'no fun," he poked his tongue out as he released her ear, shimmying out from under her.
He bounced to his feet quickly, if somewhat clumsily, lowering his front half so that his lower body waggled playfully. Making a very childish 'rawr', he slapped a paw against the earth and then trotted away a few steps, calling over his shoulder, "Betcha can't catch me!" And with that he trundled off at a slow canter, not wanting to go so fast that he stumbled and smushed his nose into the dirt...But just fast enough so that Hababuu would have to chase him.

With a delighted squeal the elder of the twins gave chase, her eyes bright and her paws moving cautiously across the ground. So far so good but with her growing of confidence there was soon to be a fall.
She skipped forwards, forepaws kicking out as she tried in desperation to catch up, only to find her eyes being drawn to the left with the path of a leaf. It was this momentary distraction that scent her rolling head over heels across the ground until she came to a halt, lying on her back with her paws flailing in the air.
"Ouchies..." She curled her tail up to lay against her stomach and cautiously opened her eyes.
Her head span a little but otherwise she looked okay, no broken bones or scrapes! Just a bit of a knock!

Damu had bounded along quite happily, giggling in a good-natured sort of way and waiting for his twin to catch up. He glanced over his shoulder every few seconds, keeping his pace steady so as to allow her to get as close as possible without being able to catch her. He felt steady on his paws for once – as if they were rooted into the balance of movement and that the earth wasn’t shaking beneath him, trying to upset his slow run.
Hababuu’s scent grew mildly fainter behind him, so he paused in his lope and turned, just in time to see his twin stumble to the ground. This was an area where Damu showed a bit of peculiarity. He was protective of his sister to an almost dangerous amount. It wasn’t quite normal, the panic he showed if she made one mew of hurt. But it was a natural reflex for the poor fellow.
Ears flattening to his head, he bolted back to the spot where his sister had fallen, his eyes a startling mixture of anxiety and pain. He pushed his dark nose against her forehead, his words slurring together was they spilled in a frenzy from his mouth rapidly. “Are yoo okay? Are yoo hurt? Wut ‘appened?”

She blink up at him sheepishly and nodded, ears flattening as she pulled herself to her paws and sorted out her legs. Then with a small mew she reached up to tap her brother's snout with a paw.
"I'm fine Da-moo!" She squeaked, shakign her small, podgy body free of dirt before moving to nudge at his shoulder with the flat of her head. "My paws got tangly and confuzzled." She giggled then, her eyes leaving her brother's form to gaze around them.
"Oh~!" Her sing-song voice chirped up all around them and suddenly Hababuu found something new to captivate her attention. For just a few strides away was somethign else she had not seen before. A huge, black, shiny beetle that scuttled across the ground. It seemed completely oblivious to the cubs it was approaching and trudged forwards like a tank, it's armored body glinting in the sun.
"What's that?" She asked of her brother, moving slowly forwards to investigate.

Damu backed up a few steps as his sister rose, ears still flat to his skull and a tremor of sympathy still in his eyes. He snorted as his sister's paw grazed his nose, wrinkling his brow. "Are joo sure?" He turned his head to butt the flat of his skull against her shoulder in return. "Be more ca-ful, 'kay? Yoo scared me."
Even as Haba bounced away from him in squeals of delight, a small storm cloud seemed to permeate Damu's mood now. He followed her sullenly, his black tuft of tail-fur dragging the ground in an impossibly forlorn manner. The young cub didn't question his overreaction to a normal cub tumble. He was more so put off by the fact that his heart felt like it'd climbed into his throat and was choking him. He wanted to gag and cough, but he kept his lips pressed tightly together.
Sitting his rump down next to Haba as she investigated the bug, his ears did perk up somewhat. Bugs were always an interest to him...and something that must always be hunted and stopped. He glared at the thick shell, something he'd learned from previous occasions that could stop his teeth from going through, or would either get stuck in them when he gnawed pathetically at the bug. "Izza...Izza 'ard beetle," he said, unsure of exactly what the thing was called.
He grinned subtly, glancing at his twin. "Iz funny when you knock them ovar. See-" he giggled, sticking a paw out and flipping large beetle over on its back. It's legs flailed helplessly, his body tottering from the round curve of his shell. It was a rather pathetic site, really. Almost cruel.
edit I'm adding an exit for damu. <3
The tiny cub yawned, his eyes hovering to a near close. It had been a long morning for Damu, and the poor thing was awfully tired. Rising to his paws, he waddled towards his twin and nudged his nose against the side of her face. "Damu sleepy now. Nap 'ime," he mumbled. Ears lazing backwards, his tiny paws pulled him slowly to a comfy-looking patch of grass beneath the cool shade of a large boulder. Curling into a ball, Damu was asleep in a matter of moments.
