So, being new here and all, I have no idea if this has been discussed before, but I've been wondering it for a while...
Since the genocide of the Air Nomads, Aang has been the supposed only Airbender left, and Appa is the supposed only remaining flying bison. (and Momo, of course, is the supposed last of the flying lemurs) That leaves a very interesting question:
How will the future Avatars learn Airbending?
Seriously, will Aang try to revive the Air Nomads during his lifetime? Will he try and find his people, if there are any left? What do you guys think?

If my fanfic was real, that wouldn't be a problem, because Kohaku was created when Ishitaru died. Poor girl. She only had a few days with the group before she died. The greatest sacrifice a Firebender could make.

Umm, I haven't read your fanfic, so I have no idea what you're talking about. An Airbender was created when a Firebender died?

Personally I don't think Appa or Momo are the last of their kind. I figure when the Air nomads were killed, the other creatures probably went into hiding since the firebenders scared them off, the areas were badly damaged (i.e. food), and there was no one left to socialize with. The animals are probably still out there but rarely travel far from their hiding places.
As for future Airbenders, I figure either Aang will teach others how to airbend or, failing that, someone will find the flying Bison and learn from scratch all over again.

You raise a very interesting question. ^^ May be there are nomads that still practice the air bending ways but are in hiding in fear of the Firenation, or just want to be left in peace. It makes me wonder, now, wether the next book, air (If it actually comes out) will reveal possable air benders.

Aang should just make new friends by forcing them to learn airbending and the airbending way. That'll bring back his kind.

I think there are more Air nomads out there. From what I hear there are still the Western and Eastern Air Temples... where the women air benders stay. Haven't you noticed that we have never seen a woman air bender in Aang's memories and such? And they are in hiding out of fear from the Fire Nation

Yeah, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be able to become Airbenders.

MidnightArticuno Umm, I haven't read your fanfic, so I have no idea what you're talking about. An Airbender was created when a Firebender died? Well, you'd have to read it, and you'd probably argue a fair few points. But yeah, Ishitaru was the Avatar after Aang[after Aang 'disappeared' a Water Avatar was born, killed by the Fire Nation, as well as the next Earth Avatar after, and then Ishitaru the Fire Avatar came next, all in the span of 90 years], and when Ishitaru died and disappeared in a flash of fire, and Aang stepped outside the Temple sanctuary, there was Kohaku, the Air Avatar after Ishitaru. It's a bit of a spoiler if you ever read it, but so long as you get it.

That's a good question. They haven't been to the other air temples yet, so there might be someone out there who can airbend. For all we know, there could be someone living in another kingdom pretending that they cannot bend. If not, then Aang would have to teach someone.

Well most likely.. Aang's and Katara's babies...
(( according to my theory))
Most likely each baby will either be water.. or air.. or not a bender..
So its possible

As much as i enjoy the idea of there actually being more air benders out there, I don't think there will be. Because wouldn't that make the TITLE of the show a little obsolete?
It's "Avatar: The LAST Airbender" not "Avatar: We THINK he's the Last Airbender"

It's "Avatar: The LAST Airbender" not "Avatar: We THINK he's the Last Airbender" So then, basically the Avatar Cycle will die, since there's no new Air benders to go to after we go through the cycle again? And the title doesn't necesarily mean anything. Over in Europe, it's called "Avatar: The Legend of Aang", or "Avatar: The Master of the Elements" (source: Wikipedia) and @a30993~~ I desperately want Aang and Katara to be together. Your theory makes my day 4laugh XD Seriously though, as the children of powerful Benders, I'd think it'd be a little odd if they didn't inherit one or the other's powers. (then again, look at those Earth twins in the Fortuneteller episode, one was a bender and the other wasn't)

It's "Avatar: The LAST Airbender" not "Avatar: We THINK he's the Last Airbender" You have a point there, didn't think of that, however, what if they're just throwing the viewers off by giving us the impression that there isn't any more? Who knows, I rather see the end results of what's going to happen than predict them. Although, it would be more understanding if there weren't any more considering that Aang is already a master of his art so an airbender won't be mecissary.
