Wide doors open up into Fort's Hatching Sands. The hot golden sands are surrounded by layers of wide risers, tapering off as they approach the ceiling. The shallow stone have steep stairs carved into them, with edges rounded and oiled through years of use.

Off to the back is a small tunnel, mostly blocked from vision by a large rock. Almost right in front of it is a large mound of sand, obviously where most of the eggs are clutched.

Current Status: Eggs on the Sand

Eggcount: 5-6 There's a cluster of small eggs that's hard to count with Glith guarding her clutch. Tolara is the only one that knows for sure, and oddly she doesn't want to talk about it.
Eggs likely to hatch: 5-6
Timeframe of Hatching: Delayed indeterminantly.

A behemoth is curled around the eggs, gold hide faded to a pale yellowish grey color. The eggs are clustered together, hiding their amount and nature from the resto of the world. It's nearly impossible to guess at the amount and types of eggs as some seem to be resting on top of others. As thread passes overhead, the gold barely lifts her head to glance up, mourning winning over instinct.

((You guys don't have to stop your night from going on at Fort. This happens once your done.))

The early morning light shone weakly down. All across the weyr, the sound of riders and dragons moaning in pain filed tunnels. Various healers rushed around, some carrying noxious smelling bottle, other with their hands empty, all with dark serious expressions on their faces. The noise and bustle was loud enough to mask the soft hum that began to rise from around the weyr.

The dragonriders noticed it first, and even the worst injured had a brilliant smile on their faces. Slowly the moans of dragons left off all but the worst injured, sliding into the soothing hum. Slowly Glith lifted her head eyes starting out of the slow swirl of apathy.

Jerked out of an exhausted slumber the Weyrwoman stared at Glith, unable to place where or why she was. The sudden jerk of the egg she was cradled next to brought the answers falling swiftly into place. A pained smile etched itself on her face as dragon and rider uncurled leaving the eggs open. Both stumbled their way back, Tolara sagging against Glith as people began to stream in.

Injured dragon and riders filled the first two tiers, while those more able to get up high were seated where they can see. The faint hum was punctuated by the moans of dragons and riders. A stubborn few had been carried on stretchers to the hatching grounds, insisting on being present. With a desperate bugle from Glith and an off key screech from the ever fickle green, the first egg cracked open.

((We’re going to do this a different way, hopefully where everyone gets to interact a bit more. Each hatchling will break out of its shell and wander around in separate posts You will not know the color of the dragonet until it Impresses. Riders are welcome to come, reminisce and in general be. ^^))

((So do we post here, and you reply with the dragons individually checking us out, or do we wait for them to approach us before replying? I'll try posting... If I'm wrong in doing this, then I apologize.))

Awakened by a persistent humming, Gabriel rubbed his sleep-filled eyes. It took a moment for the meaning of the sound to sink in. The eggs were going to hatch! Rolling out of bed, he reached for his white Candidate's robe, hurriedly donning it as he dashed out of the room and through the caverns and corridors.

Arriving at the Hatching Grounds, he paused to catch his breath before making his way out onto the Sands.

Slipping off the light sandals at the enterance to the Hatching Grounds, Riordan slowly made his way into the cavern. Clad in his white robe, the candidate bowed to the grieving queen dragon and the Weyrwoman standing beside Fort's only gold.

Turning slightly, he saw many injured making their way into the Hatching Grounds, determined to see the only good thing to happen in Fort Weyr for some time now. Carefully crossing the hot sands, Riordan moved to stand beside Gabriel, where the other males would join them once they arrived.

"Bit early, isn't it?" He whispered to Gabriel, suddenly jumping at the bugle that Glith suddenly emitted as the first egg cracked open. His green eyes were then glued to the egg, hoping for Faranth's sake that it was a bronze. This Weyr needed such a good sign after all the deaths and injuries that had occured recently. Let it be a bronze, let it be a bronze. He chanted constantly in his mind, hopeful for any good sign.

The morning sun still not as high to be called sun rise but up enough for light to shine around the weyr Nevaeh slept dreaming oddly of dragon eggs and the... hatching grounds!? Slowly Nevaeh opened her eyes realizing that Teal and Genji where flittering above her with excited chirps and humming. Pictures of the hatching grounds and the dragon eggs were flashing through her mind as quick as lightning. It took only seconds for Nevaeh to realize Teal and Genji were showing her these images they were trying to tell her 'get up the eggs are going to hatch!'

Nevaeh jumped up and out of bed her fast movements caused Teal and Genji to fly up to a rafter above them. Nevaeh slowly calmed herself and the two flits came down from the rafters landing on the bed. As they landed Nevaeh quickly grabbed her white candidates robe. Putting on her shoes Nevaeh ran for the hatching sands Teal and Genji flying above her chittering excitedly.

Running into the hatching sands almost falling as she slid around a corner Nevaeh stopped directly in front of the eggs. A bulge from Glith made her look up and realize how big the gold really was. Just as Nevaeh looked up an egg at her feet cracked letting a small baby dragon fall onto the sands. Nevaeh had heard all the rumors of how baby dragons had seriously injured candidates during hatching and quickly moved back before the baby decide to run her over. Moving back Nevaeh ended up in a line with the other candidates as thought they were in a military group being checked out by the comander to see who was worthy.

Gail woke from a gental proding to her mind from Xaith. She grummbled sleepily and turned over until Xaith very loudly informed her that the eggs were hatching. This mental bulge surprised her so much that she slid off her fur laden cot onto the floor with a thump.
"Mmm...kay..." She mummbled, slouching around her room putting something halfway decent and aglily, despite her sleepyness, vaulted onto Xaith's back. They glided down the hatching ground where Xaith gracefully landed let Gail slide off, then retired to the edge of the bowl humming along with the other dragons. Gail hiked up her skirt and went and found a spot near rider's she knew. She hailed them happily, stiffling a yawn and gently sat down at a tier with a wonderful veiw of the eggs and canidates. guests were being carted in quickly and dragon riders were racing to and fro seating others and themselves. Gail glued her attention to the eggs and got a funny thought that Glith was hiding more than anyone knew.

Walking swiftly into the hatching grounds clad in her thin Candidate's robes, Naeryn takes a deep breath, bracing herself as she approaches the eggs, the high-pitched hum vibrating in her ears, making her wince.

She turns to face the eggs, stumbling a little over the hem of her robe in her haste, and jumps a little in surprise as the first egg cracks. She looks up at the Weyrwoman and her gold, anxious. Recieving a reassuring feeling from Mel however, she sighs. Smiling at the hatchling, she waits for it to Impress.

Relek awoke on the sands of the bank near the lake where he had fallen asleep after dressing a dragon's wound. Prether his queen flit was tugging desperatley at his pants screeching at him to wake up. as soon as he was conciouse images of hatching eggs flooded his mind "NOW?!" he leaped to his feet fully awak as he ran to the candidates barracks to get dressed for the hatching. "Preth! go find Viant and Kinther! wake them and let them know. Go!" the gold flit took off as Relek burst into the candidate baracks and tore his robes over his head twitching them into place and jamming his feet into the thin sandels. he raced down to the hatching grounds where at the entrance he met his two companions "ready guys?" he took a breath as they walked on in unison. and gathered in the semi circle of gathering candidates. Relek's eyes watched intentley as they took their places the first egg cracked and the babe spilled onto the hatching sands

Kinther was asleep in the Kitchens when a large squak and constant tugging woke him. it was Prether Relek's flit, she started sending him images of Relek racing towards the hatching sands and the hatching eggs. he jumped up

"Vi! Viant! get up! we gatta go! the eggs are hatching!"

he jumped away from the table with his friend as they raced to the barracks and pulled on their robes. they met Relek at the entrance and walked onto the hot sands together joining those already there for the hatching

"that was close...we would have slept through the hatching"

he sighed as they took their places just in time to see the first dragon stumble from it's prison of an egg

Viant was abruptley woken from his slumbers by screeching and his friend yelling somthing about a hatching.

"hatching?..."

he looked up ina daze

"the hatching!"

he sprung from his place and took off with Kinther pulling his white robes on and racing down towards the sands. meeting Relek at the entrance they all stepped on together and took their places. Viant twisted in his place to look at the stands

"where is she?..."

he spoke to himself then watched as Arizath, Jynx, Prether, and Fereth took their places with all the other flits. he then thought to scan the dragon's to find her bronze

"where is Arizath where is she?"

he was anxiouse and kept scanning the stands for someone. he was so focused on searching for someone that he didn't notice the first egg hatch as they steeped onto the sands just in time to watch the baby dragon fall out of it's shell

Faerra jogged onto the hatching grounds, looking at least presentable, not bad for combing your hair as you run type thing. As her sandaled feet touched the warm sands, she paused, turning to bow to the golden Glith, as well as Tolara. She strode forward, taking her place eagerly with the other candidates as a bugle from Glith announces the hatching of the first egg. She looks at it, wondering what dragon will emerge. As she stands though, seemingly remembering something important, her tanned face turns to the stands, searching for someone. She scanned the crowds, hoping he had come. Hoping.

Soon her gaze turned back to the eggs that lay upon the hatching grounds, her heart pounding in anticipation. What would it be like? Would one of those eggs out there, one of the hatchlings be Hers? Would one of them be her bonded, her soulmate? She was nervous, well, obviously. It was the chance to impress a dragon. To even stand here would be enough to make one nervous, being present to witness the birth and bonding of these majestic creatures was another thing entirely. She took a deep breath, exhaling slowly, calming herself. It worked. Though she was still incredibly nervous, she was doing better. Her mind was clam, collected, focuesed. She was ready for whatever fate held in store for her. She took on a determined look, hoping, that she would impress, hoping to be chosen. She pushed the doubts to the back of her mind. She must not let them impend her today of all days. She must face forward positively, show her worthiness, show that she had what it took. Her sae coloured eyes brushed the grounds one more time, but more observant. Taking in every detail, memorizing every flash of colour, every scent, every sound. this would be a day to remember for the rest of her life.

G'dor had never been a social person so he had never attended a hatching aside from his own. However, the chance of meeting an old friend at the hatching was far greater than it was moping around the wyer. He missed his friends terribly... each day it grew worse. He'd wake to laughter from the streets and rouse to see people socializing happily below him. The canidates had a sense of firmilarity about themselves as well and it made him feel slightly envious though none could ever guess by the rather sulken expression he always carried. Not that he was always sad- he just was a thoughtful person and often times his mind would wonder and he'd end up looking spaced or dazed. Now was one of those times. Because of his rank he was allowed one of the better seats at the hatching though he insisted against it. Everyone around him was excited but he watched quietly, holding Will in his lap and running his fingers over the silky white fur.

The other riders are probibly all still recovering., he thought to himself, I suppose I can at least inform them of the hatching and it's events. I'm sure they'd like to know... if I can ever see them again.

He sighed to himself, looking down upon the sands. Tarnith was asleep still- he had fought hard and earned a good rest. G'dor hadn't slept a wink since the death of the other rider- and it showed. He was exausted but stress does a good deal on a person.

G'nor's blue dragon burst from between with three flits in toe. he landed Gileth and dismounted helping T'thia down from the dragons back. the blue leaped up and took a place with the other dragons. T'thia's flits hovered her blue and gold, Huntu and Leera took places by Jynx, Arizath, Ferenth and Prether. but her bronze Oneth swooped down to Viant and chittered making him take note that his sister ahd arrived and was taking a spot in the stands. the flit then swept up and took his place with the others.

T'thia sat near some of the other bronze riders, true she was still a wyreling and she stayed in the respected place of wyrelings she sat closer to the bronze riders and hear some whisperes of how she was out of place. she looked over at them, one of them asked her of her name and she replied formaly

"i am T'thia, rider of Bronze Arizath"

she gave a small smile as the other riders quieted and let her be, she turned and found ehr brothers fiery red hair down on the sands and smiled brightly waiving at him. she crossed her fingers hoping he would impress
