look at me, i'm first to post here under the new rules. hopefully, i will be able to clear up any questions about the new rules with this thread. anyway, onto the arts!

this is more of sketch-type thing, but i thought it turned out interestingly.
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/39909766/

I'm unsure as to where the subject came from. i sketched the first one in my pre-calculus class (technically, there is nudity, so beware...) i think the breasts are a little small.

the next one is done with pastel. it turned out well, but you can't tell from this version--my scanner did what it does best: butcher things. (also nudity here...beware, the female form!)
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/7295/fragmentsblueex5.jpg

anyway, let me know what you think of it. i haven't done anything major or good lately, but i wanted to post.

also, when i update things, i'll post it in this thread and put the date it was altered in the subject of the thread.

yay for the first person to follow the rule!

before i say anything technical/conceptual about the art works, resize the first picture! DA can be slow at times and the fact that it's a relatively big file is not helping. took me 3 tries to actually get to show up on my screen. sweatdrop

i think the sketch did come out interesting. instead of just a glowing figure, you might want to try darkening the background or darkening the figure to make it stand out more.

as for the other 2 the proportion needs a little work. the body should be longer based on the size of the head. know what i'm saying?

keep it up though. looking forward to seeing more of your work. 3nodding

arg, sorry about the size. i never know how huge my works are! in RL its less than 3X5 in, so i never expect it to come out being something like 4000pxls high. i usually re-check it, but apparently i forgot sweatdrop

upon taking a second look at the other two, i know what you mean. i have a real hard time with head size, for some reason. i'm always afraid it's going to be really small but then it turns out huge...iunno.
thanks for your comments; i'll work on it!

EDIT: it is now safe for you to look at the first image; i've resized it down to ~600pxls, rather than the 1700 it was at (how that happens, i'll never know)

Update of minor proportions:

drew this just today...it's another no-limb figure; i'm not sure where they're coming from. i think it scanned pretty okay considering it's pretty light. seriously, what could be attracting me to drawing women, from the same angle, with no arms or legs? iunno. 1.5-2hrs, colored pencil.
let me know what you think!

and...dont worry, it's safe to look at; artwanted resizes my pictures automatically (even though i shrank it to about 800 pxls) smile

much better, i have to say. maybe define the shoulders more. the body can still be just a bit longer.

oh, btw, i found this site's tutorials to be better than most of other ones i've seen. don't know if you've already been here before, but check it out. not the best, but definitly one of the better ones.

oh yes! i have used this tutorial! but i have not seen this particular tutorial. was it added recently (within the past 6-8 mos)?

i'm always sort of afraid to use too much definition in the shoulders, thinking that it might break up the figure too much. but you're right, it could use definition.
i think there is a problem with the neck/surrounding areas. i think it's because maybe im guessing what should be there? i dont feel like i'm guessing, but it happens. i haven't actually made a study out of it; i probably should.
you're also right about the torso. i draw them short because thats what i see: i myself have a short torso (along with a short everything else, lol). but you're definately right; it could be lengthened.

i'm not sure why, but measuring the human body in "heads" has always annoyed me; i can't do it.

i post here in defeat.

i cannot win when it comes to watercolor. seriously. so i tried some more watercolor, this time using rubber cement to block off areas i didnt want to paint all over like an epileptic monkey. so yeah, that was pretty much a pain, but it worked...until it RIPPED THE FRIGGEN PAPER. i admit: i did not read the instructions on the rubber cement; i thought i knew what i was doing, but apparently not. and then, of course, i tried to fix it. painting over it made it even more noticable (if thats possible) and then i decided, since its most noticable around the edges, to maybe try to smooth it out a little. bad idea. so here's what happened. -end textwall-

...did i use the rubber cement wrong? too much water? stupid paper? (its canson 140lb watercolor paper, btw)

and now i have this burning urge to somehow turn it into something i do not feel ashamed of. i'm thinking of just cutting off the blue parts and...i dunno, putting something else there. i also thought of putting some glitter over the entire blue part so that the light would reflect into the veiwer's eyes, hiding the travesty which i have committed. any ideas...?

note: as to the anatomy, i hope its obvious i wasn't going for realistic here.

thanks in advance for any ideas any of you might spring forth.

<--is not a watercolor person. but i really would love to do more watercolor. it's quite amazing to see someone of the things that watercolor can do. whenever i use watercolor, i just end up using it like acrylic paint. and then when i try to use acrylic, i end up using it like oil paint, which doesn't always work out. so in the end, i have mostly given up on the two. i just stick dry media, and oil paint, which i can't use at home or at school.

opps, after all that blabbing, i haven't said anything usful. haha, don't mind me. there's not much advice i can give since i suck at watercolor myself.

its okay cap'in. i think i used too much water. i might redo this one (with different colors) and only seal it once, waiting 24 hours to make SURE it's dry before applying the rubber cement, and before taking it off. it works really well, but i think i weakened the paper with either a) excessive use of cement and b) too much water.

also, i've found that i use watercolor like acrylic paint too, but only if i use the tubes. if i use the cakes, its fine. but the tubes...i get too much and i MUST use it all because if i dont, i feel like i've wasted it (not to mention the tubes tend to be more expensive). i have used the tubes, but they didnt agree with me, so i stick with cakes. they're cheaper and more freindly to me. if i accidently mix the colors, its no big deal, i can just get a paper towel and wipe it off.

i love using watercolor, but i have to say...it is definately my most feared medium just because its so...strange to me, i guess. so many factors to consider when watercolor painting; the main factor being: you cannot just "paint over it" if you mess up because its transparent.

alright, so i'm updating. i haven't really done much lately; been busy at school i guess. maybe i'm running into a rut or something. i just haven't felt like committing to a real drawing lately. anyway....

http://artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?ID=408428 this one is a plant.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41570585/ a girl.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41570429/ these are just...some doodles. this is what i doodle, lol.

btw, these are ranked from almost-serious (top) to i-was-killing-time (bottom). they're interesting.

and, if anyone has any advice/magical trick for human hair, i'd love to hear it because its the one area where i feel like i really struggle.

edit: heres some more. i didn't feel like making a new post.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41926846/ it's the rose again.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41973018/ didn't turn out quite as well as i might have liked, but considering i didn't use a reference on it, i think it's okay.

give me some love.

okay, so i could create a new thread, but really...i dont think i need to considering it's still on the first page.

i'm posting the following image for criticism (which i always get great stuff from here, i totally appreciate it). it's just a sketch but i do want to turn it into a real drawing. i just want to know if there is anything *wrong* or anything that *should* be improved/changed before i go on to shading. (btw, for this, i'm thinking very light shading to give a rather airy effect, what do you think of that?).
