Amari lay lounging in the grass a few feet away from the den's entrance, a purr at his throat and a smile on his face. His children were growing fast but they were still small and he was almost constantly on guard.
His eyes were now on his eldest son, watching the little ball of golden fur tumble about in the dust.
It was scary to think that his first son was almost an adult and that soon his second litter would be becomign juveniles. It was sad to think that one day his children would all be grown up and he'd have no one left to teach or protect - except his beloved mate.
And when his second litter were grown, would he be too old to appreciate freedom from teaching them? He huffed and let his ears droop into his mane. Free from his children? He didn't want to be free from them, he wanted to be surrounded by his darling offspring for as long as he lived.
"Hey 'Nuka!" He called, laughing as the little golden boy sneezed from the dust clouds. "Where are yoru brothers? I think it's about time you got taught a very important lesson." He laughed, hoping that Maawio would not be in ear shot. She might not approve of this particular lesson.

Inari was creeping up behind Amari slowly, keeping his head down, body low, belly almost touching the ground. His tail was still as he watched his father's tial flick back and forth, back and forth. So close, Ianri could almost feel his father's tail between his paws as he caught him off guard.
He was going to get him this time.
Slowly he started going foward, watching his golden pelted brother roll around, Inari hoped he didn't see him. His golden eyes were on the prize; his dad's tail. Wiggling himself before he pushed on his hind legs, Ianri leapt forward, paws stretched out as he tried to grab his Amari's tail.
But at the last moment it moved.
Again Inari crashed into Amari's hind legs missing his target. Was he ever going to be a good hunter? This was inside, "I always had you dad," Inari said laughing. This was fun, fun in the sun.

Amari gave a small jolt of surprise as his pouncing son knocked into his hind leg and with a laugh he turned to gaze at Inari, the cub whose name was so similar to his own.
"Well hey there yah little rascal!" His eyes shone. "It's a good job you're here, I got some interesting stuff to tell yah." With a wink he turned back to gaze at Chunuka who had crept forwards towards them.
"There's Inari." He answered, though it seemed pretty pointless now. "Dunno where the others are, prolly off somewheres." He wrinkled his nose and tipped his ears up to focus upon his father.
"What're yah gonna teach us dad?"
"Ah!" And Amari lowered his head so he could whisper to his sons. "I'm gonna teach you a very important skill. A skill that all males need to know if they want to find joy in thier lives." He paused and glanced warily over one large rusty shoulder.
Then when he was sure that Maawio was out of earshot he continued. "How to make the girls happy."

Inari watched his brother creep forward, Inari was still where he was, contemplating on going after his father's tail again or not. The stupid thing. It always evaded him at the last moment! One day...one day Inari would succeed and pounce and catch the tail fluff at the end of Amari's tail, then he would be happy. He'd also be on his way to becoming a successful hunter...least thats what Inari believed.
But the word 'girls' made Inari's nose scrunch up. What was dad trying to do? Girls were well...girls. They were little and pretty and dainty, but how could girls make joy come into Inari's life?
Oooo...maybe it was a secret.
"I wanna know dad tell me!" Inari said as he pounced forward, tail flicking to the side, now Inari was anxious. He just HAD to know what his father was talking about.

"Oh I'll tell yah, don't worry about that." He winked and settled himself more comfortable., moving to drape a heavy paw affectionately across his rusty cub's shoulders. "Right now, you might think girls are icky and annoying, right?"
He paused here waiting for an answer, ears flicking downwards as Chunuka moved to lay against his father's foreleg.
"Well?" He urged.
Chunuka nodded and grinned, crinkling up his own nose as he nodded sharply. "Yup, girls are icky! They think they're soooo much better than us." He giggled and turned his blue eyes towards his brother. "But we know they're wrong, write Inari? We could beat 'em in a fight any day."
He puffed out his chest proudly but gave a surprised squeak as his father gave him a sharp nudge with his nose.
"No." Amari scolded, though it was light and there was not much anger in his voice, just a stern tone that was enough to make the cub droop his head in shame.
"You will grow to grow bigger and stronger in the physical sense but because of this you must never hurt females. They are huntresses, they are wise and intelligent, they are beautiful. Yet when it comes to a fight we are stronger and it would be unfair to challenge them in battle. There are only certain circumstances where you should ever lay a claw on a female."
He paused, "for instance, if a rogue female was to approach us now and try to snatch you or injure you I wuold have to use force. But unless they provoke it you must never set claw upon a female. They are the life givers and for that they are to be respected." He paused and glanced fondly at his sons, atleast this conversation wasn't all going to be about flirting.
"Do you both understand?" His voice had softened now.

Inari puffed out his chest as his brother did, yes, Inari was big adn strong and girls were smaller then them. What his father said was right though, why would you hurt a female unless they did something bad? It would be unfair for Inari to do so well cause...he was SO strong, any female wouldn't be able to handle him and his strength.
SO he believed.
Inari's ears twitched backwards for a moment while Amari described females calling them pretty...they did look...different from males, but ick! Seeing Amari and Maawio cuddle and stuff could male Inari want to bury his face in his paws and shield him from the mushy stuff.
Though Inari did have dreams about meeting other lions, some of them girls.
But he was still so young!
"Dad..." he spoke quietly, trying not to sound stupid, "What if we did like a female...how do you make them like you?" he was curious, he had seen a female cub such as himself the other day, and she looked....pretty, sorta, to Inari. So he was curious.
He thought his brother would think him being a traitor though.

Glad that Inari seemed to already be taking an interest in females Amari let the wide grin settle into a more calm expression. This was really a rather serious matter.
"That's easy. Act the perfect gentleman! I polite and kind, be warm and helpful. Be the perfect guy! Always tell them how pretty they are and tell them that their eyes sparkle with the radiance of stars. I love that line." He chuckled to himself and flicked his tail to thwap Chunuka who was wrinkling his brow and sticking out his tongue in dismay.
"You'll see what I mean when you get older and when you learn all about the birds and the bees."

Inari tilted his head to the side. WHy say those things, what if the other wasn't pretty or her eyes didn't look like stars? It would be mean to lie to a girl...woulnd't it? "I sort of get it but..." he looked at his golden brother and his ears folded back. Was his brother mad at him for kind of liking girls sort of in his strange way?
"I think I would need practice dad...I don't want to mess up and look weird..." his ears rasied again, so did his spirit, "Lets go dad! Come on please?" he asked pouncing forward, tial flicking behind him, golden eyes hoping for his father's reply to be 'yes' so they could have some fun together, would be nice.

"That's okay, practise means perfect and don't worry about making stuff up. It's not really lying and it makes girls feel good about themselves so there's nothing wrong with that. A lie that makes someone feel good is always better than the truth that can hurt, right?"
With another laugh the great lion heaved himself up onto his paws and shook the dust from his mane. Then nudging Chunuka to his own little paws he gave him an encoouraging smile.
"Come on 'Nuka my ol' boy, you'll be the best flirt of them all in no time. Just show some spirit like your brother there." Then with a swish of his head he gazed around. "Okay, lets go find you little 'uns a girl!" Then with a bouncy gait he moved off towards the waterhole.
As they grew nearer Amari was pleased to see that the wateringhole did in fact hold a young female. She was a juvenile and of a pale green that mingled with the grass around her. She seemed to be staring at her reflection and completely oblivious to the approaching three.
"Okay..." Amari whispered, "I'll stay back here on the sidelines and wait for yah. Good luck!"

Inari watched as his brother seemed less enthused by teh passing seconds, meh, would be fun to go hunt out for nice girls with his brother someday. He stood up and followed his father to the watering hole, golden hues traveling over the area until his eyes set on the figure of a pale green girl, older then he was, but perhaps she was nice and it didn't matter if she spoke to a cub.
He looked to his father and nodded, then began to pad slowly towards her, he gulped, trying to remember what his father said. Hopefully he wouldn't mess this up. As he got closer he made sure his smile never faded.
"Hi.." he said softly as he got to the water's edge and looked at her own reflection. She was pretty, he turned his view to look at her, perhaps eye contact of her actual eyes and not a reflection would be better, "I'm Inari, who're you?" he puffed his chest out a little, perhaps that would make him look bigger then he was.

She blinked her eyes and jolted away from them almost fearfully, gaze flickering between the brothers. For a moment it seemed like she might shy away completely and then slowly a faint smile slipped onto her maw.
"Hello." Her voice was quiet but kindly and if they knew why she was so fearful of being approached they probably would have been far more understanding.
"Nice to meet you Inari. I'm Ivie'lingwa, but you can just call me Ivie, everyone else does." She giggled and let her eyes shift beyond the rusty cub to the little golden boy behind him. "And you are...?"
"Oh...uhh...I'm Chunuka. Inari's bro." He sniffled and looked a little awkward, moving to stand next to his younger sibling's side. "You have weird fur...I mean uhh...that...you have pretty fur. I never knew it came in such a colour!" It was his lame attempt, but everyone had to start somewhere.
Practise makes perfet after all.

Inari smiled and flicked his tail to teh side. Went to say something, his mouth half open, then Chunuka began to speak...and he wasn't doing very well. After Chunuka's first attempt at saying something, Inari slapped a paw to his forehead, ugh. This WOULD be interesting afterall.
Gaining his composure Inair smiled at Ivie, tried to think of something to do, and came up with bowing his head slightly to her, then raising his head and making eye contact again, "It's nice to see you..I mean, meet you Ivie, you have pretty eyes you know..." he almost lost it there.
She did have pretty eyes though...
"Why would you be out here all alone Ivie? Someone as..." he tried to think, "Pretty as you shouldn't be...alone out here,"yes, perhaps that was better. He glanced at Chunuka out of the corner of his eye and sniggered in his mind, competition anyone?

Her eyes flicked between the pair and she gave them a strained smile, wondering what she had done to deserve so much attention. "Ummm...." She turned to gaze at the water and glanced at her reflection once more. "Well I don't like being in big crowds cos of...well...I just don't." She didn't like to tell others of ehr seer powers in case they thought of her as a freak.
"Pretty fur? Pretty eyes? Do you think so?" She beamed then, looking almost giddy with delight. It was definately nice to be complimented. Maybe that meant Fedha'Kialio would notice her after all! "Do you think all boys will think that? Or just you two?" She enquired.
"Oh all boys, definately." Chunuka chimed in before his brother could get another word in. Apaprently Inari was better at this than he had anticipated. "You are very special to be so green and it's such a nice refreshing colour. You stand out very much."
It seemed in the competition to beat his brother the nervousness in his tone had left. He shot a smug grin in his bro's direction.

Inari glared inwardly at Chunuka, so he was getting better at this. Pity, Inari wanted to have something over his brother that he was good at. Chunuka was just...well, too cute for his own good when it came to being around his parents. He was usually spending more time with their father then Inari usually was, which made him wander off a lot.
The brown cub nodded and smiled, "Yes, veyr pretty you are, but not all might notice how pretty you really are, until they..." he was drawing a blacnk, quickly trying to think of something, "Until they hear your voice, its very nice, soothing and very kind Ivie..." Inari said with a flick of his tail, smiling smugly to himself.
"But I've noticed Ivie..."
