Some find her to be a very good writer... But they tend to be the ones with less contact with other wiccans and things like that... Most just seem to hate her with a passion. I'm not exactly a big fan myself.

Hmmm. I think the main thing, is that you have to dig a little bit to find some useful info. And when you do find this, it's great.
As long as you have a wide range of sources, and get stuff from other books and sites, you'll be doing well. smile
However. To beginners, I wouldn't recommend her. She'll... mislead you. Just, some of her stuff is a little iffy and somehow... doesn't seem to be connected to reality. I think that she doesn't align herself with much nature. Sure, she celebrates Sabbats and has some great ideas for doing so: just they seem so... commercialised. Perfect. [shrugs]
Give her a go, at least. I think you either love her, or you hate her. [nods]

I think that, as a teacher, she's too opinionated - she provides good information, but you have to be good at picking out what is and isn't neccessary/opinion. Like Jen said, not good for beginners.

--aurellion-- and JVCA are right... i happy i would not recommend reading her books first but even now i cant seem to get into them... i skip around from chapter to chapter and sometime have to reread some of it just to pick out what would be new information to me and good ideas to twick a spell or something.
normally when i read another persons work i feel their passion about their work. no with Silver Ravenwolf...she has too much pride for my liking... when i hear the name i think of a phrase she wrote in one of the books somehting along the lines of: make sure you keep a good stock of gems on hand be cause you never know when you may need more mother of pearl. later on though the chapter she describe giving out her gems to people at work, friends, family, etc. and im thinking " eek if i did that where i live i will be burned at the stack... eek "
[shrugs]sorry for the rant. anyways sweatdrop

xd We like rants- no worries!
Yes. It's definitely an 'arrogant kind of pride' feeling that I get when I read what she's written. She doesn't have too much consideration for other 'possibilities' (for lack of a better word). When I read Cunningham's work, he makes suggestions, and then suggests more subtle, more appropriate for 'witches in hiding' alternatives, where ever he can. To me, Raven Silverwolf is a bit icky...

I'm one of those who hate her with a passion.
It's not that she has no good ideas, or that she doesn't know what she's talking about... It's just that what she is talking about is often bs and her ideas come coated in such intolerable infatuation with herself that it almost reminds me of Malmsteen.

I have no idea who/what Malmsteen is ( redface ), but I'd have to agree with that - she's definitely infatuated with herself.

Eh, sorry about that. Yngwie Malmsteen is a swedish guitar god. One of the "holy trinity" (jk) - Satriani, Vai and Malmsteen. Brilliance at it's peak. Except he's so horribly in love with himself that I just can't stand listening to him playing. He's a genious, has impossible skills, but... he kinda ruins it.

I've skimmed through one of her books (To Ride a Silver Broomstick), at the recommendation of my friend Kira (Not Wiccan, exactly, but she IS Neo-Pagan). I don't really have a strong opinion for or against her. I mean, there are some things in there that do help out, but there's other stuff that's just seems like it's bs. I've never actually tried to sit and read the entire book, though, I've just glanced at a few paragraphs here and there.
