I don't want to get killed with that old axiom: "There are no small roles, only small actors." So, let me ask my question this way: What are some of your favorite roles with few or no lines?

Some of mine are:

the taxi driver in Harvey
The orator in The Chairs
The body in The Real Inspector Hound
and one of the gentlemen callers in Arsenic and Old Lace

I have only have one role with NO lines at all and there were two with few lines. Of the three (Once Upon a Mattress, Anything Goes, and Annie) I would have to say playing Passanger #7 in Anything Goes rocked my world!

"Once Upon a Mattress" was my first show and while I liked that I got to play off of the guy that played Prince Dauntless often in group scenes when his mom was be all like "SHUT UP!" he would come cowering over to my friend and I (It's good to know the prince!) BUT my costume was SO FUGLY that is made me depressed sometimes.
---
"Annie" was fun. It was my first time with solo SINGING lines (Sophie) but that was the show from hell! It wouldn't have been so bad if we didn't have twice the normal amount of children, but we had two casts of kids and they drove me INSANE!
---
"Anything Goes" was so exciting for me! I only had one line, but I owned that line! It was my first line EVER in a show as well. Plus, I got to know the director really well and he ended up always using me as a walk on character during the show.

EDIT: OH! I forgot about Miss Weston in "Damn Yankees!" I hearted playing her... cus the director re-worked this one part so I got to come out, bitchslap someone, and they yell at the entire cast! I heart Rob! Best director ever!

I haven't played any of the above parts. But I believe they are really fun and good parts.

"The Angry Woman" 1 line in "With a little bit of luck" in My Fair Lady (get to inturupt everything... it's so fun and obnoxious)

"Mrs. Rose" in Hello Dolly (supposed to be an old woman... but i was younger then Dolly in that production)

I once had a role in Flowers for Algernon where I was "Voice in the Audience"

I believe my line was "But has the mouse retained his mental capacity, with no variation?"

My school did ONce Upon a Mattress this year and I think the people who had one or two lines enjoyed it more than the leads. Especially the "French Girl".

"YES!"

I think that the Bellhop from Lucky Stiff is pretty cool. So are the two nameless women that follow Harry around. The ladies' solos in "It's Good to Be Alive" are pretty neat ^^

Once I had to play a drugged out lady in The Mystery of Edwin Drood (during the "Wages of Sin" song) that was pretty fun (even though I was drugged out on the floor most of the time)

In Beauty and the Beast I was cast as "Lady with Cane". It was great fun, because "lady with cane" kind of morphed into "senile creepy old lady with cane". Muchly funny. "I need six eggs!"

I played a waiter in a student-written play once which only 6 lines. For some reason, I won best supporting actor. Odd.

I did A Midsummer Night's Dream. And, you know, since Shakespeare hardly puts any stage directions in his plays, you can really do anything with the characters.

So, I was Mustardseed, one of the fairies. When I first got the script, I flipped through it, and I was severely disappointed with the amount of lines I had. That is, almost none. But at the end of 3 weeks, when we were performing Midsummer, the three fairies were in EVERY single scene. It was almost like we were the main characters! Though we had the smallest amount of lines out of all the characters, we definitely had the most blocking. All in all it was a great experience, and thankfully now I won't judge a play by it's cover ever again.

Flo in The Mystery of Edwin Drood. She has, like four lines. The show is a very interactive show, though. So I got to do a lot of crazy s**t during it.

Well, in response to the classic line "there are no small parts, only small actors" my director, Barb, once made the mistake of telling me that "my part was so small that it didn't really matter if I was here at the moment" (I had to leave at the moment) stare still don't like her for that. It wasn't MY choice to make me a maid...but yeah, that was a really fun part. I was maid #2 in our school's production of Dracula. I had about 7 or 8 lines. And I know this is weird, but my costume made me look like a muffin. xd Or someone who would make muffins... xp
