I'm posting this topic because I want to know what you think on this. A lot of people replied to the other topic as 'SHOULD race matter' (obvious answer NO) but that's not really what I'm interested in. Does race matter to the Japanese Lolita? Do they mind white Lolita?

So your question is does race matter to lolita? I don't think so, I think they'd PREFER a 'white' lolita...since lolita originated from france rococo era. Race dosn't matter I don't think.

The Japanese probably have a, "Oh, look, they're being like us! Hahaha!" opinion. I think they'd rather respect the ones from Europe, but look down slightly on the ones in America, and other areas of the world.
The Japanese ones are very polite to me, at least. ^_^;

But western Europeans look pretty similar to Americans. I mean, they don't look different enough for a Japanese person to be able to tell just by looking at them, so how does that make a difference?

Since I'm not japanese I can't say whether or not it matters but if I were, I'd prolly be a little ticked that these white kids keep taking my style. Other than that, I'm sure they think its cute and that white, black or asian they are very pretty.

Was that rude, eh? xd Besides, Japanese have quite bad teeth too, if you take a look at some j-musicians' videos around the Net rolleyes Japan is not Lala-land, girls... people probably have a lotta prejudice against other races there, especially concerning foreign people wanting to do what they do. Just like many other countries. wink I've read somewhere (I think it was in Livejournal, but I'm not sure... gonna look that up) that many Japanese lolita are picky about whether you're wearing expensive brand clothing, and many of them will treat foreigner Lolis badly... confused But I, of course, believe race doesn't matter. I doesn't matter for being Loli, nor anything else. heart EGL Goddess I'd prolly be a little ticked that these white kids keep taking my style. So shouldn't French people be ticked for the Japanese kids having taken their Victorian Style? wink

I really don't think race should matter. I like Lolita's of all sorts. I'd really LOVE to see an African-American lolita.

I think it depends where you are and the type of people you meet. In American or Europe, people might not care either way, but I have a feeling that in Japan, things might be very different.
I'm sure they're alot of people who do not like seeing non-asian people in Lolita and some that are very excited to see them. I'm not sure, but there could be a disliking towards darker skinned Lolita than those of a fairer skin. Though there are Ganguros, I've heard that articfical skin is better liked than a natrual dark skin tone.
As an African-American, this does not get rid of my love for lolita, but, I'll be honest, it does make me cautious on where I wear my choice of clothes.

I would say that of course it doesn't matter. I mean anyone can dress Lolita. But it's your own personal perspective, ne?

Victorian is...from England, isn't it? o_o; usually when I see more French-esque things in loli, they come from about the 1750s, not the 1850s, which would be Victorian. I might be wrong.
