What games do you think used the full extent of the old Hardware? What games had the best effects? Post 'em here!
Remember, gameplay isn't an issue here, just post what you think looked the best.

My choices are...

I would say GT2, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and other than those I can't really think of many others, maybe Deception 3.

Well this is definetly a strange topic, I mean I personally don't think any games of this generation needed to rely on there graphics to amaze and entertain us at that time, I mean games like WCW/NWO Revenge which had alright graphics but was still an extremely fun game.

But those games that really pushed the limits of the current hardware at the time those games would be...

arrow Metal Gear Solid (PS)
arrow Tekken 3 (PS)
arrow Perfect Dark (N64)
arrow Star Wars Rogue Squadron (N64)
arrow Gran Turismo 2 (PS)
arrow Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (PS/N64)
arrow Final Fantasy 7, 8 & 9 (PS)
arrow The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
arrow The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)

Those are the games that come to my mind when talking about graphics for that era, but again these games excelled in game play and replay value so much that graphics really didn't matter.

Well yeah, I mean Metal Gear Solid on the PS was a great game and it had really good graphics for it's time and no CGI cut scenes either, which at that time was the thing to do.

Yeah, Metal gear always did have bleeding edge graphics, but GT2 still remains a looker on the PS1.

Wait, the very begining when Snake was swimming in, wasn't that cg?

MGS and Deception 3 I think are a bit out of place here. Especially deception 3. MGS series has actually always been behind on the graphical front. A little more pixelated and a lower bitmapping rate. RE3 pushed the PSX hardware pretty well, and of course GT, but that's only because everything is done in simple geometric shapes (as is the nature of cars), and they didn't have anything too round to show the flaws in the graphics. Starfox 64, Ocarina of Time, and Goldeneye did alright for N64.

Nope, it was just scripted actors, meaning the game was actively rendering the polygons, but the movements are predetermined.

I've been trying to find good screenshots, but they're all really tiny!

Well there's a semi decent one here from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Neon_Genesis_Evangelion_64_Screenshot.png
I used to get most images from gamespot, but they have been messed up for me for a while. I can't view their images, and everything looks very basic (text only, no special html things)

Dude that game looks awesome! And that screenshot is from the second episode where Sinji goes nuts in his first fight against an Angel. I love Neon Genesis Evangelion and I'm really dissapointed this game didn't make it across shores.
