This is what I have but it didn't turn out how I wanted it... Do you have any ideas to my the backgrounds look more Gaian and smooth looking?

well..
1) sharp lines
2) pixel-ly looking shading

other then that, the idea is good ^^

Use a small, sharp brush? That background looks like it's a bit too blurry.
