First of all... yes mods I have permission for this thread wink Second... this thread is PG-13 just so you all know... there will be colorful language XD. Seriously though, there will be...
Now onto the subject... How many of you agree with using the words f**, f*****t, dyke, c**k sucker, carpet muncher? Now I know that question sounds rediculous at first, but I am a person who uses words like f**... dyke... etc (the terms that people try to use offensively against us).
Now many-a-times I've had people say something to me like "we dont use those words" or "no dropping f bombs here"... (f bomb obviously referring to f** and not f$%k.) However I have a philosophy on these terms... now these terms are all relatively new negative slangs for gays, much newer than the N word used for blacks...
Now the N word was used from master to slave a couple hundred years ago, it has a LOT of history behind it, and there's not much of a chance of taking away the negativity of it, we all grew up knowing that was a very bad word... However the slangs used towards gays are a lot newer, in other words, we are the ones shaping the future of these words...
My question is, do we want to give those words the same power as the N word for example...? If some jerkoff tries to insult me by calling me a dyke and I just respond with ".. uh, yeah thats me, whats your point?" I take away the power of the word... if im not insulted by it what good is it? I refer to myself as a dyke, my good friends use the word just as if it were another term for "lesbian" and not a negative term. If someone tries to say "hey c**k sucker" to a gay man and he turns around and says "I sure am... and what?" that word is suddenly doing nothing for the person who tried to use it.
I do realize these words are still taboo, which is why I think it's important that we dont let them become such powerful words like the N word. I know not everyone will agree with me, for some people these words are already very powerful in their world, but I was just curious how others felt on the subject.

i HATE the N word. mainly because I'm half black and i live in a "ghetto" neighborhood where all african american's say " what up N***". I can't stand it! that's why some caucasian people are so bias like "all black people are ignorant" and other crap like that. So not true. Like when you call a person Gay it automatically means sexuality. It could mean happy too ya`know. I hate using any of those words, especially if someone is around and might get offended.

I actually use the term gay alot for alot of things now(like to mean bad, yes I know being gay isn't bad. Just thank the stupid straight kids.). But if I hear a straight person say it then it annoys me. I guess cuz I feel the terms for gays and lesbians are only exclusive to us like the N word for black people, and then ultimately like the N word it depends on whether you yourself would use it or not in you speech.
The only big reason that I say dyke so much is because I think it sounds funny(like on buffy when angel tells buffy about the boy that stuck his thumb in the dike and she got a weirded out look on her face and he said that dike was another word for damn), I giggle alittle after I say it. So I guess in actuallity I think that I am calling someone a dam instead of a lesbian when I say it. But I am not the kind of person that if I knew you and knew you didn't like the words that I would say "Too bad". I respect that some people find them offensive that they would rather not hear them. Doesn't mean I stop entirely, just I entirely stop around them, and if I goof up then I feel bad and apologize a ton.

I absolutely hate the "N" word. So much. Most people don't know this about me, but I am Black, White, Hispanic, Irish, German, and Japanese. I'm not lieing. The "N" word just really ticks me off because I'm part black, but I also hate it when blacks blame most things on white people. It's not fair to me.
I actually do say things with "gay" in it. I'll say "OMG! That's gay!" or.. "He's looks so gay." I'm not trying to make it sound as a bad thing, I'm trying to make it sound as if it's something I don't like. I'm not saying I hate gays though. I LOVE Asian gay guys. XD So damn sexy. .. Anyways.. bash me if you want, I won't care. >_O
f**/f*****t is another word I don't like. It doesn't even /sound/ like a word to me. I don't see why people have to come up with these insulting names and stereotypes anyways.. confused
If someone said "c**k sucker" to a complete whore, then I'd accept it. After all, they are what they are. But, if they were to say it to someone else, then I'd get upset.

Not all black people blame things on white people. I have never ever dated a black boy in my life. Idk why... But some white people say oh blacks are so dumb and they don't know how to act. Some white people don't either and some of the white people are mostly racist and blame "us". Im not against white since my stepmother is white and so was my brother. half/blk. and I only call people "gay" when im playing with them. only said it once. and i also hate when blk people look at white ppl and say " white crackers or saltines"

Desirable Ai, I don't think they will bash you, but you might get a spanky wink . I hear some black people and some white people blame eachother but i don't pay attention to them after I hear something like that. Same goes with if someone uses gay or f** as an insult. I don't, I use it just like you do Ai. I don't like people treating eachother badly, it makes me angry no matter who they are, what they are, or whatever. If you aren't nice, my heart closes on you. I don't think other races as a whole are dumb, but certain individuals do make themselves look dumb. I am weird. I usually don't see race all that much, I mean I see a differance in color but for the most part, I see everyone as the same. Its not just that we are human, but something deeper, and thats how I see us. I don't have the word for it(its that abstract I guess), but everytime I think of it, my soul feels lighter.
Okay, now I am getting out there so i am gonna end it right here for this post. xp

f**, f*****t, etc is taken very offensively where I come from. But dyke isnt bad. It's just another word for butch because people dont understand "butch". I would say I have my dyke days...or weeks...but I can be fem too.

I hadn't even thought about the use of the word "gay"... because I use it CONSTANTLY... just always have since I was much younger... I think that's getting too nitty gritty... its just too common of a slang term (not to mention its not a slang used in order to purposely offend gays, its just a very common slang that everyone hears and uses) nowadays, most people use it, I think nearly every gay person I knows will even say "Man, thats gay" = "Man, thats dumb"
P.S. on the use of the term "gay"... I'd bet that anyone who is against the slang usage of the term "gay" has coined the phrase at some time or another "Thats retarded". You know what? Same thing...
You know what? If someone calls me a dyke (malicious intent), that immediately shows me that they're an ignorant person... and you know what? I dont give a s$@t what an ignorant person thinks of me... so why would I be offended by such a closed-minded waste of my time? I wont be... because it IS a waste of my time, those people aren't anything worth getting upset over.

No, I make it a point never to use that word. I see where your point is, and I agree that taking away the power of the word would certainly help...
I just try my hardest not to offend anyone, and keeping those words out of my vocabulary is one way of doing that.

Well... just to clarify so we all know... lol I'm not some a$$ hole who walks around with dyke and f** spewing out of her mouth, I dont tend to say it in public places, just when talking with friends and aquaintances and fellow gayfolk.
The only reason I watch my mouth is out of respect for those who dont agree with me... though I'd highly urge them to think about it ~.o

IRL I use "words that are taboo" alot, but only with people I know won't be offended by them. Now, I live in Sweden, so the words are a bit different... ****** for instance becomes "Neger" here in sweden, and hasn't really the same meaning as in english. To insult a black person here in sweden you'd have to use the word "svartskalle" which roughly translates into "black-head".
I do however never use these words in a totally bad way. I would never call someone something I wouldn't call myself. If I call someone a "dirty hoe" it's most likely because I approve of that persons actions and want to give that person good credit for what he or she has done.
Example (I meet one of my ex GFs who is from thailand on the town, and greet her with) (Again roughly translated to english) : Hey you dirty thia-whore, what's up? To which she replies something like: Apparently not your d**k, you graverobber! And then we have coffee... wink

I Think You Said It Yourself , Me and all my friends black, white, asian , gay straight, disable whatever! whatever our little "difference" is that is taken negatively my the majority of the public ( N*****, f** , Dyke, etc) We make fun of it and turn it around (to take the offence and power of te word away from it's meaning! We joke about it and give it comedy value to show how stupid and funny we think others are by using it!
I Think it depends on the person using it this will seem stupid and weird , but my friends and myself do use some words affectionatly (sp)
One of my friends mothers called him her little fairy or "whos my favourate little poof" but she means no harm by it! I joke about with a friend saying he's my pet f** and i'm his pet dyke !
I use the words a lot and when i'm out with friends because prejudice people actually find it shocking to hear two gay people insulting themselves and at the same time we're showing them we don't care about the words they call us! if that makes any sense!
Little things like walking with my black friend in town when someone called in an f-ing N*****, we both looked at the guy who was all cocky and smiling and then looked at each other laughed and shouted back "why don't you call me a w*g while you're at, N***** is SOOOOOOOOOOO last season!"
I guess we just do it to say hey we don't care they are only words so shove you!
I hope that made sense lol! and i didn't offend anyone!
