anybody planning to participate in naniwrimo this year? if you haven't heard about it, you can read about it here: www.nanowrimo.org

I've made failed attempts for the past two years, but there's probably no way I can even try this year. I'll be swamped this fall semester (assistantship duties, my own classes, plus trying to finish up my project paper). Early good-luck to anyone who does it though.

I say all of this and I'll probably still end up starting something and not finishing it again this year. sweatdrop

I'll probably try again this year. Last year I didn't get past 15k word. I am, however, looking forward to staying up late just to type two thousand words a night and then giving that up after a week. Oh, school. Why must you stand in my way of finishing crappy novels?

After hearing so much about it in the writers forum, i plan to join as a first year 3nodding I havent been writing much of late, so a difficult challenge would be an effective jump start for me (even if i dont complete the contest, at least ill be writing)

aw, c'mon, even I succeeded despite being in the middle of a massive thesis (plus classes). try! try~! :3

this year will be my second, and hopefully I can do something a little more... light-hearted this time around. :/ my last project should still be linked from the nano site if anybody wants to see what I ended up cranking out, though it's probably not worth looking at...

Youch. That's dedication.

I'm beginning to wonder how much value can be derived from Nanowrimo. It almost seems to be one of those "because it's there," Mt. Everest things, where people who aren't ready to write a publishable book prove to themselves that they can at least hit a certain word count.

I don't count myself as being any farther along than that, by the way, I just don't know how useful it is in the grande scheme of things.

If you think about it, that's probably the best way to write a book. Don't edit til it's done. And, this sort of supports that. I mean, 60k+ words in a month pretty much rules out anything more than basic editing.

I understand what you mean, and I used to to think roughly the same way (or at least "Oooh! Ubercool!" hehe). I can't really explain what's changed, so this may be one of those things caused by my current mental state.

I want to try, but we always go away in November and I'm the most horrid writer/procrastinator on the planet. But I'll definitely try. I was just a little too late last year.

Oy, I'd never manage to do that. I can never get past the first, like, four chapters. I just can't get myself to sit down and focus. i should be writing right now, but I get distracted by the internet really easily, so... And 175 pages in a month? I simply can't. wish I could, but I can't.

I didn't hear about it until last year, but I couldn't. Two AP classes, a play at the end of November, wrestling starting up, people dying, etc, etc....

I just didn't have any free time that wasn't used for sleeping.

This year, though, I plan on attempting. Last year I got about 2,000 words.

Ehh... I'm going to be participating in all likelihood, and my goals are to complete a good work of fiction that passes the 50,000 word mark. Hence the tons of research I'm doing at the moment. whee

I've just never done anything that's been more than 10,000 words. So challenging myself to do more would be a good thing to help get me over my crazy fear of getting too far and then having to start over.

No, that's a bad month for me. I don't think I'll bother this year around, but I'll be around to offer moral support to those who are choosing to write it (Though I'll most likely end up shouting at them. Or laughing at their pain.)
