Africa's Deadly Serpent...  Black Mamba: Dendroaspis polylepis Length: Maximum 4m, average 3m. (that's a max of 14 feet!) Lifespan: Up to 12 years in captivity. Food: Lizards, birds, rodents and other small mammals.
Distribution: Eastern Africa, from southern Ethiopia to southwest Africa. Status: At present not endangered. Increasing human disturbance could cause a threat in the future. General:After the king cobra, the black mamba is the longest venomous snake in the world. It is also the fastest-moving snake in the world, reaching up to 23km/h. In spite of its name, the snake tends to be greyish-brown in colour. Black mambas spend their nights in holes in the ground - usually disused burrows - or hiding deep among fallen rocks or timber. These hiding places are also fled to by the snake if it becomes alarmed and it will attack any creature blocking the path to its hole. Like all reptiles, the black mamba is cold blooded, and relies on external heat to maintain its body temperature. Therefore, it frequently basks in the sun during the day, either on a low branch or a rock, but during the summer, the snake may be forced to take cover in its burrow if it becomes too hot. Food and hunting: Black mambas travel quickly across rough ground or along low tree branches when hunting. They are able to hold their heads up to 1m above the ground when striking, and can hold them 50cm above the ground even when moving. They have very good eyesight and can strike their prey - rodents, bats, birds and lizards like lightning, leaving their powerful venom to finish off the kill.

A sudden, deeper intake of breath belied the waking of an impossibly large serpent, curled tightly into a ball in the center of a round bed. Brown grey scales made a quiet rasping noise as the body of the serpent began to stir, slowly loosening and uncoiling from around it's head. It soon became apparent that it was not solely a giant snake, but a naga boy, black mamba by species. With redish brown dredlocked hair pulled back in a pony tail, long pointed ears twitching slightly as his humanoid torso stretched, arms above his head to reveal a tan body, he was a handsome example of his kind. Slowly the boy opened large, slanted black eyes and yawned, revealing a cavernous black mouth, his forked serpents tongue flickering out briefly to taste the air as he closed his mouth.
Black clawed hands smoothed the green cloth and sash tied around his torso as the naga looked around his room curiously. It was simple, but comfortable, made to accomadate someone with as unique a body as his long, serpentine one.
The boy slithered off his bed and over to the door, the heavy coils of his tail moving as smoothly as water across the floor. He opened the door and peered outside, tasting the air with his tongue once more before venturing out into the hall, curious and in search of a possible meal.

When Anguis returns, on the place where he sleeps rests a green paper wrapped box, with a tied brown ribbon. When opened, inside lays two shining brass arm bracers. They are polished to a bright sheen and fit him perfectly.Two things Anguis will find strange about these bracers. One, is they will always fit him perfectly, no matter his size. And two, while he where's them, he can hear animals talking, and also animals seem to understand his voice.

((ah! that's so cool! 4laugh heart ))
Anguis returned to his room some time later with a full stomach and having made a new accqaintance. His dark eyes immediately went to the package on the bed, wrapped all in green paper. The naga boy slithered over quickly and looked the box over and then shook it lightly, curious as to what was in it. Finally he broke down and tore off the wrapping with black clawed fingers and removed the lid of the box. Within it was a set of brass arm bracers. Anguis removed them from the box reverently and then slipped them on his arms, a perfect fit! Anguis had yet to learn of their interesting nature, but no doubt he would soon enough.

It opens much like a jewelery box and inside rest a glowing egg. The egg radiates warmth, but is safe to touch. When touched, it makes any who touch it completely toasty warm.
