I was in my Old testament Literature class and the Proffessor was pointing out things he bet we wouldn't have noticed about the first 3 chapters of Genisis, one of the questions he brought up was, did Adam have a Navel?

Did Adam have a navel? I believe so. Adam was born (since the creation talked about in genesis is of a figurative sense) and, as such would have needed an umbilical cord (and, therefore, a navel).

Well technically, a navel is a scar. Since Adam wasn't born of a woman, he would've had no need for an umbilical cord, therefore, he wouldn't have had the scar. But I may be wrong. We really just don't know.

a navel is a belly button i presume? Im sure they did, because belly buttons are the wickedest things since sliced cheese.(which i dont think htey had back then) but yea thats a good questoin actually. ive never read genesis but it is something to think about, you both, people above, raise a very valid point on the subject

hmmmmm............... Well, yea I think he had a naval. I really can't explain why I think that, but I do. I just think it would be wierd if he didn't. I mean, why do men have nipples? They don't breat feed.................. okay, my daughter said that she say so

The true answer is "We don't Know." Here is why!
1) God created Adam in "Adult Form." It seems that everything was created in "Full" or "Adult Form." That would then mean that Adam was not "born of natural, physical birth." Thus he would not have a belly button, since a belly button functions for the purpose of a vessel for nutriants from the mother to the child while the baby is in the womb.
2) But since God created Adam, it is possible for God to have created Adam with a belly button, because God is God and He can do that.
So, we don't know for sure.

mistressofthelost Well technically, a navel is a scar. Since Adam wasn't born of a woman, he would've had no need for an umbilical cord, therefore, he wouldn't have had the scar. But I may be wrong. We really just don't know. you of course are indeed right. adam was not born of a person, like we are today. the navel is indeed the scar from the umbilical cord being cut off. so him........basically everything the person i quoted said. kudos for being correct.

I'm sure there've been lots of people over the... past very long time who have given birth without knowing what to expect. It's probably in our insticts, what to do with the thing. XD; I mean, animals figure it out all the time, right?
