The Japanese are known for their hospitality, their electronics, and their love of putting slogans into English without consulting anyone with a command of the language. I just thought it would be funny and fun for people to talk about their encounters with Engrish, it can be songs, posters, marquee signs, anything you read and went "wait a minute?" It will be big time fun!

We're not isolated to Engrish from Japanese, if you encountered any gratuidus use of Japanese (Enlanese? Japanish?) here in the States (or Canada or wherever you are) do tell.

I haven't been to Japan yet, but I like to check in on Engrish.com once in a while. As for bad Japanese, I might have to go find this brochure where someone with no Kanji knowledge very feebly copied some characters in a bad way.

And now the first verse from the Yatta Video!
It's so easy, happy go lucky.
We are the world, we did it
you you you you, us us us us

My school has two trips to Japan each year. One of the schools, Kojo, also comes here for two weeks every year. In our Japanese room, we have a poster from Kojo that says, "Let's do your best!"

I've been there before and it's really funny how messed up they are with English.

xd i love Engrish whee
My fav from Engrish.com is the "everyday i polish my revolver and shoot my self in the head like a rock star" t shirt ^^

then there's the famous "All your Base..." quote ^^

if you've see Full Metal Panic then you Know the "Don't worry everything's
gonna Happy" messege xd :

and right now the "No More Cry" Song is popular in Japan xd :

i had and engrish sirt that just had a bunch of ramdom phraese that
they tried to put together. i think to them it made sence...it was like
"So! what has become of our American Egale?
Nobody Knows!
it was Child's play to look ahead"
xd

then there's the things that they do, where they think is right but
you know it just doesn't work.
like on all of the Gackt Stuff i got in Japan has the same Engrish phrase. i know what it's tring to say, they where trying to be slick and have a cool little play on words, but it just isn't right...
i don't know how to change it to make it correct and still have it say what they want it to say...
it says:
Such a beautiful thing is always good that it is fasinating. However, a good thing is beautiful always.

just doesn't work does it sweatdrop
also there this thing Gackt has on all of his albums when he lists the people
in his band in the back it says "Gackts Family Are:" ^^
i'm not a big grammer nut, as you can plainly see from my
horrble grammer and spelling ^^;
but I just want to write him and tell him it wrong and how to correct it ^^

I see and hear 'Engrish' all the time, I just hope that when I go back to OZ next year, I wont be talking like that.

One of the ones I hear all the time is ' I like to go to shopping'
or when you ask 60 yr old men what they like to do in there free time " I like to play with my friends"

Just around the corner from me is a hair salon and the poster on the front says "Price Rist" then followed by all there prices.

There are heaps more I just can't think of them at the moment but I will post them once I do.

I don't see too much Engrish in the sequel aka Miami
but what comes mind is the overuse of "Let's."

I have seen a lot of it around but I must say I have read my fair share of it in games. Mostly things such as ROSE online and FlyFF which I believe are more korean based, but its the same general idea. I think my favourite is in ROSE where on an npc quest she exclaims the catchy phrase, "What a crap!!"

... sweatdrop

Yes, it is wonderful. And the best part? Right after the quest came out I saw a character runnin' around named "WhataCrap" gonk

But yes I have seen lots of it and it always amuses me. Why don't they hire someone who knows what they mean? My theory is simply, why would they? I mean, the games aside of course since they are meant to be in good english to get our money, but the stuff in Japan? Why would they make a box with stuff perfect on it if to many of them that is how they think of it? I mean it seems to me that it would be more comfortible to them in engrish then english right? *shrugs* Anyway I'ma mosey on outta here and go passout on the island of our kitchen.

Good day to you.

This company in Japan that works on cars is called Bomex, and their catchphrase is:

Pray to god of Bomex! I hope your speed over the rival.

That always cracks me up. My friend is in Japan now, and he's been showing me a lot of pictures of weird engrish he's found. It seems to abound on children's toys and bags.

I think the best thing I found thus far was a strip club called the G-Spot. I thought it was funny....

Wow. I've seen some very amusing Engrish during my last couple of weeks here in Nagoya. One that I remember was a building that had on it the name of some company: "Enzyme Bath Coup".

Now I dunno about you, but I doubt "coup" was the word they meant to use.. XDD

EDIT: I remember another one. I know this is especially true for the Higashiyama Subway line in Nagoya, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were to be heard anywhere else as well. When the train gets to the last station on the line, the automated voice says, in English, "The next stop is (insert name of station here). This train will terminate at this station." When we first heard it, we all laughed and then had to explain it to our Japanese mate students who were with us.
