Do you find that people who are teased/made fun of/commented on/ect are more likely to think about turning to the same sex? I find that I tend to think about my Bisexuality as comeing around from being teased constantly. I always used to think that a girl would understand what I was thinking about more than the guys and the occasional girl that used to torment me. What sorts of other issues do you think that this causes/helps?

I don't really think being made fun of causes someone to change their sexual orientation. You're either predestined to be straight, gay, or bi from the time you're born; or you're made to turn out one of those ways by the people you grow up with (whether they're straight, gay, or bi). This is why I think gay people should not be allowed to get married and adopt. It will just result in more of our children turning out gay.

ive been teased alot in my past, ive finally just gotten out of the rut i was in where i was everyones personal stress relief tool. now aparently everyone thinks of becoming bisexual at least once in their life and i mean, no one can truly say they havent. so ya ive thought about it, but ive never really.....gotten involved in it, even though i couldnt find a girl, i didnt feel the urge to look elseware, maybe its just that like you said codi, it has something to do with teasing, and just how much certain people can take before they want to look elseware for their love. i dont think ill ever really need to worry about any of this, im almost out of high school now, and most of the people are starting to mature, so there is alot less teasing going on. i imagine however that if no girls would even talk to me, and like that there was no way i could get a date and i was like 20, then there could be a chance i would start to consider bisexuality, depending on what my life is like, but right now, im happy, and i really dont absolutely NEED love at the moment. all in all, to me i believe it comes down to the way you are born, ive never been attracted at all to a male in all my life, and i am strongly attracted to females, but some others are quite different, and thats ok with me, theyre people too, just like me, they deserve to be treated exactly the same, and no one deserves to be teased. ^_^

I think that this kind of harassment can make people want to experiment with members of the same sex and try things out, but that they truthfully cannot change them. In other words, you might think the same gender is more understanding, but if you're straight, you'll still only get sexually aroused by the opposite one.

I also think that those who do experiment will readily discover that people of the same sex can be just as big perverts and assholes as the other gender.

i dont think thats true honestly. i doubt science has found a "gay gene". people develop homosexual tendancies early in life, thats true. but most dont become gay until something life altering happens. much like how people change (sometimes) after a near fatal incident. people find it, they discover that about themselves.
ive been teased so much by both sexes when i was younger that i truely doubted where i stood (hence the multiple suicide attempts in junior high.) i had gay friends and truely wondered about myself (they also LEARNED that they were gay, none of them were gay to begin with, they figured it out.....think of it like finding a secret in a video game lol. but i found out during 9th grade that i was straight after a the first couple of dances (bump and grind is my savior lol). people had been so condisending on me before and their own name calling almost made me what they yelled at me about. im not a homophobe but thankfully i figured out that i love the female sex better than the male. never found them arounsing (thank god) and quite honestly, sometimes i honestly hate guys because the steriotypes they gave the rest of us.
i personally like gay people, people paint them with such a negative image and its sadening. they are just like the rest of us....only they like each other sweatdrop
i find it funny that most guys are afraid of them, like a good gay friend of mine said: "Just because im gay doesnt mean you have to be scared of. Im not automatically interested in you....you U-G-L-E-H!"

Just because people "learn" that they were gay, that doesn't mean they weren't gay to begin with. On the contrary, it implies that they simply discovered something that was there all along.

One aquarium has some gay penguins. 3nodding I also learned from the same article that you can't normally tell what sex a penguin is without actually banging it yourself or taking a blood sample. eek

i think that just that people ridicule gays so much just makes people more curious about the whole thing.. im straight but thats how it is for me whee if a homosexual person hits on me ill still take it as a compliment, cause hey, at least someone is bound to think im attractive gonk whee

I agree with you on your first point, and disagree with you on your second point. I think it's a lot worse to be gay now than it has been in the past (excluding the time period in the medieval era where gays were burned at the stake). There really is a lot of predjudice out there about gays, and I have to admit, if someone called me gay, I would take it as an insult. Most other people I know would see this offensively as well. Also, I would take it as an insult if a gay person hit on me (it's happened in the past, I'm sorry to say). It would be a pretty sorry existence if I was straight and the only people who hit on me were gay men. This way, I could never truly be happy, because I am simply not attracted to men. However, I do not hate gays, because I believe they are a natural and necessary part of our world. If you think about it, gays really help to keep the human population in check, since man has no natural predators, and homosexuals are incapable of producing offspring. But still, I will never end up marrying one.

Exactly. Until you get to an age where you look at people in "a certain way," you really don't know about your sexuality. It's always there, you just...have to figure it out.

I don't think being teased/picked on/put down/insulted/etc. has a direct effect on sexual orientation. It might just be one step distant, but I'm fairly sure it isn't the immediate cause. Insults tend instead to lead to feelings of social isolation, and from there we adapt as we need to. It seems to me that you sought solace in the gender that insulted you less, which you gradually began to grow an attraction for.

Direct? No. Part of the reason? Possible, if not likely.

And Sketch, I gotta disagree. I wouldn't think that most homosexuals and bisexuals become that way due to life-altering experiences. I have no doubt that there are those who do, but I don't think it's a majority. I'd suspect either a gradual change, realized in the turbulent years of puberty, or a genuine disinterest in the opposite gender from the get-go.

Back to the questions, other issues caused by the insulting, etc. are low self-esteem and depression, and a host of others that are hard to name or really complicated.

And no worries, Judyfay. Someone had to do it. wink

This is a bit from a stand up comedy routine by one of my favorite comedians, Carlos Mencia. Beware, explicit content.

"Ohh what about the fags Carlos?"
Hey listen I'd be against gays too if there was like a radius where whenever they #@$&ed, you felt the pain. That would #@$&in suck you know? Your neighbors are fags and your just watching TV. Aw they're at it again! #@$&! Why during my favorite show!

Leave em alone dude. "I don't hang around with fags" It's not contageous dude. My theory is that homophobic people are gay. They're just afraid. I'm not afraid to hang out with gays. They have even tried to suck my d**k. And by the way... the pitch was Really good! Seriously. One of my gay friends he stepped up to the plate Strong! He's like "Carlos you should let me suck your d**k" And you know, for the sake of arguing I was like alright I'm a comedian, why should I let you? He's like "Your just gonna tell a joke" and I'm like no I'm being very serious. Why should I let you suck my d**k? "Because Carlos. Women act like they can do what I can do, but they don't have a p***s. The perspective that I have based on having what you have, I can do to you what no woman could, because I understand how to give, by basing it on how to recieve." And I was like #@$& that is Good! And he didn't lie. He sucked a meeean d**k.

Here's the point... Who gives a damn about what peoples sexuality is? When gay people go break into your house and rape you. Then you can start complaining. And one thing that makes me sick. Anyone who says that being gay is wrong, but think lesbian women are attractive. Your a god damned hypocrite.
