Night had long since fallen on the city, but the raven felt no inclination to retire. Unlike some of his friends who had companions to look after, and babies, and other such responsibilities, Xaxis had nothing chaining him down.
Lucien was off grocery shopping - Xaxis had been invited along, as he used to tag along with the the other boy, but tonight the raven felt like being free. How long had he been tethered to Lucien and his rules? How long had he kept indoors because of his health, because of his age, because of the adults?
His other friends seemed to be allowed to go places without fear. Lithle didn't tie Savius down, did she? Iamel seemed to romp WITH babies whenever he pleased, so now it was Xaxis' turn.
Lucien couldn't gripe or complain, Lucien couldn't hold him down any longer. Cold or not, Xaxis was going to do what he wanted when he wanted, and that was that.
Fall was in the air, a breeze chilling the raven and causing his wings to wrap around his lithe frame. It would soon be winter, which meant more and more clothing - bah.
Maybe there would be a way to keep warm AND still wear his scarves and bells. Tinkling with every movement, with every gust of wind, the raven enjoyed his current solitude.
Lights blinked on and off through various windows. Many shops were closed, but there were some that fed off the night stalkers. Flashing blues and reds and neons, signs welcoming those outside to enter, offering food and drink and music to the masses.
Xaxis felt no urge to enter any of those places, but he did admire what activity and life he saw as he passed the windows. The world revolved around the living. . .
Xaxis liked to watch it, as a predator studies his prey. They would all fall, sooner or later, and the raven would laugh at such a sight.
((In short, he's just wandering through the city. x3 What can I say? He's attracted by all the lights and colours. ))

Iamel was not as jangly as his Raven friend, being just a meer woodpecker himself, but he WAS colorful. His Shiniee had been packing more things for them to move and his brother was having a sleepover - the other kiddlets had scattered to various friends houses to avoid the oncoming boredom that a near-empty house provided.
So there he was, on the town. People had been staring at him, in the club he was at, like that waitress had stared at Savius. Hungry, almost feral. Licking their lips and nearly fluffed up like a starving housecat. One had almost touched him - that's when the Woodpecker had left. He didn't knw why they were looking at him like that, despite his questions to Shanuh, and he didn't want to know why.
His boots clomped down cheerfully on the sidewalk as he meandered about, glowsticks dangling around his neck and some stuck in the high ponytail. While the boys hair had gotten a good deal longer, few saw it down anymore. It was something special, to him. Something his.
Everyone knew you didn't take what was His.
Iamel coughed a little into the wind, a sudden, cold gust catching him by surprise. One hand rose to rub his eyes and when the hand lowered, there was someone scarf-covered and jangly walking down the street as well. His eyebrows arched. That looked like... Well! They were ALL just growing now, weren't they!
"XAXIS!" The Woodpecker bellowed, chasing after his friend and almost tackling the poor bird. "OI!"

Xaxis did a double take at the sound of his voice, eyes searching for the source. The voice didn't sound that familiar, and yet . . .
It had to be . . .
Ah-HA!
The jingling boy couldn't miss the exotic hair colour, he couldn't miss the glowing sticks of colour that further demanded such attention. "Iamel~!" The raven laughed, his black wings spreading wide in pleasure.
"Look at you! Wow - when did this happen!?" So he hadn't been alone in his growth. The raven didn't often get a chance to see his friends, not on a regular basis, so the teens appearance was a complete surprise.
If Iamel had grown . . . had anyone else?
It would be fantastic to find out and see! Maybe Iamel knew more? Iamel was the social butterfly of their group. . . at least more social than Savius seemed, AND Diacyn.
All but glomping his friend, the raven pulled back only to further study his friend. The tied back hair, the wild outfit, the height! Oh - they were just about the same size now! And his wings had grown, too! How fantastic!
The raven's solemn evening had suddenly taken a much happer turn.

Iamel grinned widely at his frined, thumbs hooked in his jeans happily. "Look at YOU!" He retorted, moving slowly around his friend, fingers moving to preen at and straight a feather or two in Xaxis' set. "I grew about a week and a half ago - painful ******** hell, I tell you, in a MALL - what about you?"
The glomp was met with another laugh, hugging tight at the darker being, nose wrinkling an dhead dipping to press them nose-to-nose.
"You," He informed the Raven lazily, "Are VERY janglie! When'd you get the bells? This is SO ******** cool - me an' Savius an' you - d'ya think Diacyn has grwn?" The woodpecker was highly cheered at seeing his friend like this, hands petting down his sides. Like with Shanuh, he had no clue that what he was doing looked sexual.
At least, Xaxis wasn't looking at him like THAT. And Iamel wasn't looking at him either.
"You're so PRETTY."

Xaxis couldn't help but glow under such attention. He always had liked to be around his friends, and always enjoyed spending time in their company, but now . . . now he actually showed his pleasure. Practically beaming under such praise, the raven gave a soft giggle, ducking his head coyly at the compliments.
Yes, Xaxis had spent many a few moments admiring his reflection - but it was nice to know he wasn't biased. It was nice to know that his friends didn't overlook his prettiness.
"Well, this all happened just the other night. I was in bed, but I tell you - I got sick!" The raven's nose crinkeled and his lips turned into a grimace. Realizing that Iamel might think him silly (since the raven was NOTORIOUS for being sick), he hastily continued, "But it was the worst I've ever been! I thought I was really dying. It hurt soooo much, and, and . . . and it was the sickest I ever got." He looked up at his friend, his rich violet eyes pleading, almost begging Iamel to agree.
"BUT," he added, tone suddenly changing to a much happier note, "I got taller, AND found jinglies, AND this," he pointed to the soft, green jewel that was stuck permanantly to his forhead.
Full of chit-chatter, the taller raven was still very pleased by running into his friend. He had his arms loosely about Iamel's waist, and couldn't help but admire him.
So Savius had grown too? Oh, how exciting! He'd have to pay his dear friend a visit soon. "Well you're rather handsome too," Xaxis chirrpped, eyes gleaming in admiration. "And look that fuzz!" Long fingers reached up to tug playfully at the goatee.
"If we're all grown, then Diacyn has to have grown!"
The two were getting some attention. It wasn't everyday two attractive guardians of death were locked together in a friendly embrace.

Of course he wasn't biased. Anyone who said so would be met with the uncomfortable part of Iamels boot up their a**. That was the way the world worked - you didn't insult his friends, you didn't die. It was an easy method.
Iamel listened to the story, nodding along when appropriate, and he dragged Xaxis into a sympathetic hug. "Its bad you had to get so so sick in order to get tall and janglies - but you're okay! So you're less sick now...?" He tapered off, red eyes on the Raven, one hand moving up to pet at the bright pink bangs.
They were PINK.
It was a good day, in his bok.
"Handsome?" That caught him a little off gaurd, eyebrows arching. "Thank you~ I never thought I'd be called - eep! - handsome. And I like the fuzz." He laughed, hand moving to wrap around the others wrists.
"Ah ha, Xaxis... Caught you." Iamels voice was low and playful, tugging gently at his wrist.

Xaxis gave a small, emphatic nod in agreement. "I'm all right now, though my wings still seem to molt." A little sigh, a moments disappointment that he hadn't yet grown out of his constant decay, "But I've resigned myself to putting up with it for the rest of my days." Another nod, and a little grin.
He really had grown used to being sick all the time, and leaving a trail of feathers in his wake - but it did get old very quickly.
"But you are handsome!" Xaxis quickly responded, eyes growing wide in his friends defense. Did Iamel not look in mirrors? Did he not see how adorable he was? Given, Iamel had always been cute and wild and hyper and crazy and sparkly and bright, but now . . now cute wasn't the word. The word had to be handsome - it just worked.
He wasn't pretty. . . persay. Attractive? Sure! Why not? But pretty just couldn't fit - so handsome would have to do the trick. And it did.
"Don't let anyone tell you otherwise," the raven nodded curtly, before his lips curved into a wide, just as playful smile.
He said so, therefor he was right.
Finding his wrist captured, Xaxis changed his playful tugging into more of a playful, innocent pet. Violet eyes going wide with innocence, the raven tilted his head to the side. "Caught me red handed, I fear - but I just couldn't resist!"

"Psh. You'll grow out of it, Xaxis, honest." He smiled a little, one hand moving back to pet at Xaxis' feathers. He liked wings, although he didn't get to touch many thers then his own often enough.
Xaxis' quick defense to his looks made Iamel flush a little, a laugh still on his lips. What could he say in defense to that? SUre, Savius had said he looked 'good' but that was on a different scale then 'handsome'. So the woodpecker just grinned, nose wrinkling despite the others playful holding on his fuzz.
"Well, since you say so and are SO very insistant on it..." Iamel tapered off, smiling a little. His finger squeezed gently at Xaxis' wrist, tugging gently at the others wrist.
"Hmmph. Well. I won't crush your wrist THIS time, since you're too pretty so..." Another soft tug and then his friend was released, that grin still on his lips.
...people were watching. His wings gave an irritable twitch, glancing to the side. "People are looking."

The raven did so hope that he'd grow out of his . . .problem. It wasn't any fun to be in a constant state of unwell, but as of yet, the raven had no idea how to change his predicament. Since there was no cure, he could only take the woodpeckers reassurance with a smile.
"I'm right, and I know I'm right," the raven laughed softly, violet eyes bright and full of good humor, taking any conceit out of his words. Iamel didn't have to think that he looked good himself - but just so long as he knew that OTHER people thought he were handsome, including kin.
That was all that mattered.
Giving his chin one last little pet, apologizing for his behaviour, the raven opened his mouth to speak. . . only to stop.
They were being watched? Xaxis, so used to doing the people watching, cast a glance around at the gathered crowd. Some people really were staring! What about? Why?
The raven, so used to sliding in and out of the background, let his wings ruffle in slight agitation. "They don't have to be so obvious about it," he mumurmed, dropping his head and his gaze, unsure how to handle the looks.
Iamel was handsome, and Xaxis knew he was pretty - but did that mean they had to be stared at? They weren't doing anything wrong. They were just chatting, catching up with each other. So why the stares?
Suddenly very self-concious, the raven lost his confidance, and fell into his childhood habits. Wings snapping shut, the raven decided Iamel would make a very good body sheild indeed.
What was the phrase. . . what was the saying? "They should take a picture, it sure as hell would last longer."
It wasn't that Xaxis didn't like attention - he just didn't know why they were being watched and studied. Many didn't notice, which was wonderful, but there was a small handful that did. Bah.
But Xaxis couldn't entirely place the why. And that was what made him uncomfortable and very, very wary.

Iamels eyes narrowed when Xaxis reverted into himself, taking a faint step back to look at all the people. Some were just staring... a few were whispering. Why?
They weren't doing anything bad. They weren't bad. Nothing here was BAD. Why were people staring at them?
"Don't look sad," The woodpeckers order/request was almost gruff, hand moving to pet at the others face gently. He remembered something from when he was a kid - something almost a year ago, with his Shiniee, when people had been staring then as well.
"If they want something to stare at, we'll GIVE them something to stare at. ******** them."
One hand stayed under Xaxis' scarf when the other moved to peel the fabric off. Iamel bent over, just a little, and pressed a rather firm kiss to his friends mouth. The hand had been on Xaxis' cheek rose up to give the watching people the bird.

Sure, Xaxis didn't like people staring - at least not blatantly - but he hardly had time to object when Iamel told them they would PURPOSELY give them something to stare at!
Now why on earth would they want to do that~! Wasn't the whole point to not make them stare? Wasn't the whole point to -
And, then his scarf was brushed aside and he found himself being kissed. KISSED.
. . . what?
The raven, hardly accustomed to being this open and friendly, was starteled by his friends kiss. It wasn't a deep kiss, and it wasn't as if it really meant anything - friends could kiss, couldn't they? Kisses were good things, weren't they?
But it was still a kiss, nonetheless. Kisses didn't happen to Xaxis, at least not in his household. The most affectionate Lucien and him ever got was when Xaxis was sick - and then he'd be given occassional pets on the head, his back or tummy rubbed, and that was about it.
Even around his friends, Xaxis hadn't been an exceptionally clingy friend. The most he asked of his friends ( and mainly Savius at that) was to help preen his wings.
Now, with height, he could add kissing to the list of "new things he was able to do".
Lucien wouldn't like this ...
The people might not like it. . . (why, the raven couldn't be sure) . . .
But if that was the case, all right.
So he kissed back, though his cheeks were now blushed crimson.
There. There there.
After a moment, he broke it off, pulling away ever so slightly, and giving a little giggle. He stared up at Iamel, wings fluttering a smidge nervously. "Have they stopped staring?" He whispered, raising an eyebrow but not daring to look.

He leaned down, closer as the other kissed back, moving back with a faint smile. Xaxis was blushing - that made him cute. He was pretty anyway, but cute was also better.
The others question made him smile even more, laughing and giving Xaxis' cheek another pet. Iamels finger had lowered as hsi head raised, glancing around curiously. "Mm. THere are one or two but the main crowd wandered away. Maybe it was the kiss or the finger but they're gone. Why? Would you kiss me again if they were still here?"
Iamel grinned widely at that, a hand moving to drape over Xaxis' shoulder. "C'mon. Let's go somewhere fun. Somewhere without staring. Kay?"

Xaxis was relieved. No more staring, no more kissing. Not that. . . not that he'd minded being kissed, it had just happened so suddenly! Part of the raven was upset he hadn't had time to truly enjoy it.
Was that was the big to do was all about? Was that why all the television shows he'd seen ahd lots of kissing in it?
Maybe.
It had felt nice - the raven had especially enjoyed the feeling of a lip ring against his lips - but that was neither here nor there.
The logic in his head told him that friends could kiss. Because they had height and were tall and . . . it stopped people from staring? Maybe he'd have to talk to Savius about that - and Shanuh. Then again, maybe it was just a tall-thing. . .
Slipping his arm easily around Iamel's thin waist, the raven gave a soft laugh. The spark of life and good humor that had ben covered by paranoia was quick to light again. Everything was okay, once again. . .
"Well I wouldn't object," he agreed, cheeks still painted pink. Now that everything was over. . .
Xaxis felt. . kind of . . exhilerated. He'd just been kissed~! KISSED! Him! Oh, and how he wanted to gossip about it - but how he couldn't, since his gossip partner had been Iamel!
Oh well - he'd just have to tell Savius when they next met. And Lucien. And Shanuh. And Nikel and JoJo and the lot of 'em. The world would know that his lips had been claimed. . . for a second at least.
Pulling Iamel with him, Xaxis continued down the street, pleased to be in such good company. Iamel was good for companionship and conversation and . . . and he was warm. That was always a good thing to be, at least around the sick one.
"So where's a good spot? No staring, none of . . them." The jingling birds nose crinkled with slight distaste. Already there was a definite line between "them" and "Them" (also known as his Kin).
"Feel free to lead the way~!"

"You wouldn't object to more kisses?" He glanced over to his friend in mild surprise. Sure, the first one had been a surprise to the Raven - and to the woodpecker, as well - but he hadn't thought...
Iamel laughed, letting himself be pulled and moving with his friend. One arm draped around Xaxis' shoulders. He was warm indeed, and he enjyed being around his friend.
Something about the kiss had made the boy feel.... weird inside. Not like he had a stomach ache or anything but.. weird anyway. Was that what happened when you kissed someone you liked? You got those happy little fluttery feelings in your stomach?
"Well." He hesitated, nose wrinkling. "There are hotels by the hour but Shiniee said never to go into one of those... the park? It should be pretty much deserted out there.." He nodded, giving Xaxis' hair a soft pat.
"Hey..." The woodpecker paused, "Do you think I could kiss you again?"

Xaxis listened to his friend offer suggestions. "Hotels?" The raven had never heard of such a thing. Well, he'd heard of hotels, but not the sort that rented by the hour! Quirking a delicate brow, the thin raven looked up at Iamel with surprise, a moments confusion crossing his features. "Whatever would you do at a hotel for just an hour," a soft giggle proved his naivete.
Yeah, the raven, for all his morbid fascination and sick fondness for roadkill, really hadn't a clue about . . . . certain subjects.
"The park sounds nice," Xaxis agreed, giving a nod (and a jingle). Keeping his arm loosely about his friend, the raven was a bit surprised by Iamel's next question.
Another kiss? Really!?!? NO. WAY.
The feeling, the funny twisting in his stomach, seemed to worsen. For some strange reason, the raven, so typically distant, so typically reserved, felt. . . funny.
Giggly funny, nervous funny, all rolled into one!
Maybe it was just the excitement of being kissed. . . Strange how he'd never really had any desire TO kiss, or had found any interest IN kissing his friends. Except . . . Except now that he was tall, there was something that said he should, that it might be fun, might be nice, might be . . . different.
Tallness was a strange thing, it really, truly was.
Turning his violet eyes on the woodpecker, Xaxis gave a coy smile. "I think I might like that, actually."
Friend kisses~! Xaxis wondered briefly if Savius and Iamel had kissed like this when they'd met. And did this mean Xaxis could kiss Savius like this too? And Iamel and Diacyn (if Diacyn were tall. . . ).
So much to think about - but he could mull over it all later.
Much later. For now, he was with his friend, and they were going to the park, and there might be . . .more kissing.
That didn't involve scaring people away.
