Sid found walking along the beach helped to get his mind off things. The souind of the waves was a pleasant kind of white noise that enabled him to just walk and forget about all the recent unpleasantness. Just to be certain, he'd snagged a bottle of rum from the bar. If the sound of the waves didn't do it, the rum would.

As he walked through the surf Sid paid no mind that the water was soaking his pant legs, making it that much harder to walk. He kept his sandals on, if only because between the cane and the bottle his hands were full. Every time the water rolled back from his feet, he took a drink. He was almost able to fool himself for the moment that life was good.

Of course for the little cheetah girl, life was always good. The island was home, she belonged here and had for a long time. Her slender legs beat a path she walked almost every day, her paw prints scattered the ground every where, this trail was hers.

The sound of waves always forced her to move swiftly, through the thin belt of palm trees, breaking on to the beach with a sandy sploosh. For a long moment she stood still, the wind casting her extra long hair out behind her like a cloak, those sweet, perfect blue eyes closed as she took in the scent of the world and simply remembered the sights from her own memory.

Stillness, was never something Colche could hold on to for very long though and she soon started a dash down the beach, her long heavily muscled legs propelling her at an extremely swift rate. For a split second, she flew, her speed allowing her legs to leave the ground, in a single sprinting step.

She stopped almost instantly, her arms coming out to make her emergency stop almost instant, it probably would have been an on the dime stop if it wasn't for the shifting sands around her. She had spotted somone, she was more cautious of new people these days, though she didn't have an unfriendly bone in her body, un fuzzy people could be all weird. Smiling brightly she stood to her full hight, she wasn't tall though the way she now walked had made her taller. Slender, tawny furred and completely naked, Colche loved her life on the island and never had quite gotten the whole wear clothes thing down, she had fur after all, it was much too hot for clothing too.

With his head down and the sound of the waves in his ears, Sid was completely unaware of the fact he was no longer alone. His focus was limited to the wet sand directly before his feet. Hell, he didn't want to think about the future, so why bother with anything so much as six feet ahead? In any case, even with sandals on, he was afraid of what he might tread on if he didn't pay attention.

Another wave in its death throes on the sand prompted another drink. Death throes on the sand... he made a mental note to try and remember that for future stories. Imagery like that was golden. Then again, maybe dying gasp on the sand was better. He reached up with the hand wrapped around the bottle and scratched his temple. He hadn't put much of a dent on the bottle yet, all thanks to the tiny sips, and he was proud of that. Then again, using the ocean for drinking games could only have one result. He was getting there, but slowly.

Colche tilted her head, wondering what the guy was looking at, his feet? Allowing her eyes to wander down she shrugged they looked 'before fuzzy' to her. Her nose wrinkles and she sneezes at the scent of the alcohol, she knew the scent, the fur on the back of her neck stood on end for a moment but she reminded herself that she was safe here. Hot breath reaking with alcohol, she licked her lips, why did she think of those times so much of late? Shaking her head she shook off the thought and allowed her genuine smile to creep upon that sweetly furry face.

"Hai" she puurrs perfect blue eyes resting on the grey haired guy before her, her long tail swaying and twitching, the very tip flickering every so often. She was being very cheetahry today she realised and it made her giggle a bit. Colche found her mannerisms to be normal, but they wern't what they used to be, in times gone by, the dark haired femme was nothing but a frightened wreck, now she was confident, happy, and extremely cheetahry. "Howsit?" she grins tilting her head at the older male, trying as hard as she could to ignore the scent of vodka.

The sneeze he could have written off as something he'd stepped on, but when Colche spoke Sid at last looked up. His eyes went wide, allowing his sunglasses to slip down the bridge of his nose again. He barely heard what she said after that, he was too busy staring. He'd been so pleased with himself over almost adjusting to the myriad of animal people on the island, but the incongruence of her face, not to mention the fuzzy nudity, threw him.

The hair he could deal with, he'd seen that before, but human eyes in the middle of an otherwise cheetah face struck him as deeply disturbing. The sight made it hard to resist raising the bottle of rum, right there in front of her, to take another drink. He went so far as to glance at it, but the realization it wouldn't help- at least not immediately- kept him from following through. It would have been even rude than staring, anyway. Instead he raised his hand long enough to push his sunglasses back up, hiding eyes that were too bloodshot to be considered anything close to perfect. The other hand, meanwhile, tightened on his cane.

Sid forced a smile, though it took him a moment to find his voice again. "Hey there," he said, silently wondering what other oddities he was going to run across. Words failed him, a rare thing to be treasured.

Colche giggled gently as the man stared, she was used to this by now, she'd even taken to sort of standing in a rather unusual pose for her when people saw her for the first time. She liked to show off her fur and spots, she was so used to the patterns that streaked accross her body now, she was proud of their purtyness.

Holding out a very furry, paw like hand, claws, which she could no longer sheath due to her transformation stark and black against the light tawny fur of her hands. "Colche" she stated with a wide furry grin. Certainly this most human of actions was something no cheetah had ever done, the usually sombre expression of the cheetah with it's tear lines and serious expression long broken by Colche's happy nature.

"New?" she questioned still holding her hand out for a shake. The hand / paw shake had become something new for her recently, Josh had taught her how to do it and now she intended to do it to all the people she didn't know.

"Sorry, hon," he said, raising the bottle slightly to illustrate. The cane was always evident, much as he hated that. "My hands are kind full here, but yeah, I'm new." He still sounded bemused, still didn't know where he should be looking.

"I'm Sid," he added, and after he'd exhausted that option he had no idea what else to say.

Colche pouted slightly but let her paw fall back to her side. She couldn't stay sad for too long though and as usual her questioning mind allowed her eyes to settle upon the walking stick "wassat for?" Se grins innocently, it was an honest question, she'd never seen anyone with a walking stick before, Awen had crutches for a while, maybe it was just a wooden alternative to what Awen had? She let her mind mull over these facts while waiting for a reply taking a step closer to the man now he seemed to be friendly and of the none attacking sort.

"Was becoming?" she tilts her head curiosuly, those baby blue eyes forever curious, the question was innocent enough of course, she didn't know why people were sad here, this place was home, to her at least. She automatically assumed people were happy here until informed other wise.

"This?" he asked, looking down at the cane. He stole a glance at her as he said it, not sure if she was serious. "This is... this is to help me walk."

The second question only confused him even more. It was clear enough to see, much as he tried not to keep looking, that Colche was perfectly developed. And yet... He didn't want to think about the possible explinations. He glanced away, searching for a way out, or maybe just cue cards. Something.

"I don't know what I'm gonna become, if that's what you're saying," he said slowly, looking back as he spoke.

"Stick for walk?" she tilted her head curiously then nodded an affirmative, perhaps luckily for Sid, Colche had a wider vocabulary now than she ever did, though that didn't mean she knew everything and her forever curious mind always kept her questioning.

"Ohs" she looked thoughtful "find out soon? fuzzy or scaley or uhm rubbery like Awen" she giggles gently, her ears tilting forwards so she looked alert, watchful, like a predator though this quickly faded as her eyes danced playfully. "Wanna swim? Water nice." Strangely transformations had certainly not put Colche off water, chocolate cake or people, if anythign she was more friendly now than ever.

"Swim?" He glanced at the water, anything for an excuse to look away. "Ah, no, but thanks."

He chewed on his lip, a nervous habit that seemed to spring up whenever he was without a cigarette. He had them on him this time, but with the bottle and the cane it would require too much trouble. Colche, once he glanced back to her, looked like the type to complain about the smell.

"Okay, look, I don't want you to take this the wrong way or anything, but..." He paused, sucked in a breath. "You're not...slow, are you?" He barely caught himself from saying retarded. "Or, rather, the changes didn't do that to you, did they? Screw with your mental capacity? I just- it's nothing against you- I just wonder."

He could blame the alcohol for making him actually voicing the question, but as soon as it was out of his mouth, however mangled, he wondered if it would even make sense to her. Did the retarded know they were retarded? Likely not, he told himself. Throwing manners to the wind, he took a large pull off the bottle of rum.

Colche's ears flattened against her head tightly, she knew what he was asking. Lowering her eyes to the ground the little cheetah girl took a deep breath before her sweet baby blue eyes came in to contact with the old mans, they were determined, "Not stupid." She stated rather simply. Her brow creased as she prepared for one of those long speaches, that would show she wasn't stupid, or slow, she just didn't know everything everyone else did.

Holding out her left arm, she pushed back the fur around her wrist where clearly a thick black callus was present. She looked at it, the only sign that there was life before the island. "I no..I did no always be here." Her tail flickered as she searched for the words, she had been learning "spent life in dark, bad, scary bad men." She held her left arm in the air then "like this, always cold, always" she shivered, though it was an involuntary action she couldn't help but feel frightened of the past, of her past. "Never have to go back to dark, never, I safe here, island home. Not slow, not stupid, learning, learning to be like everyone else." He jaw jutted out determindely at this statement her dark blue eyes challanging the man to question her those deep pools almost tormented, saddened by being asked such a thing.

"Right, right," he said quickly. He tried to put a hand out placatingly, but that would mean, at the very least, shifting the bottle over to rest under his arm. He couldn't risk dropping it. "I understand now."

He still couldn't look her in the eyes. It was just too creepy. "I apologize for assuming."

He vaguely recalled knowing a girl who'd come from similar treatment, but it wouldn't do to launch into a story about that. He remained silent, opting to look at the surf instead of that bizarre mishmash of features. If he had kept drinking he would have finished the bottle by now.

Colche's ears twitched and she crouched a bit so she could find his eyes again, one paw like hand going to the ground to hold herself upright. "I be clever as everyone one day" she states with a little smile and a tilt of her head. "not frightened of me is you?" she giggles, as if that was the silliest thing she had ever heard said. A slow puurr starts up vibrating from her chest. "no be shy, I not bites" she grins flashing those large, pearly incisors.

"Sid nice man?" she tilts her head again, perhaps it seemed foolish to stand so close to somone whom might infact be a bad man, but she could run now, if she needed to she could run.

Sid kept looking around, suddenly very interested in the beach scenery around them. The rum was taking hold, but it was only helping to amplify how damned unnerving it all was. He was reminded of how bad he was with kids, even his own, but acknowledging that still didn't give him any brilliant ideas for how best to act around the cheetah girl.

"Sweetheart," he said, forcing a fresh smile. "I can honestly say I haven't the slightest inclination to do anything, uh, 'bad' to you, don't worry."

It was true. Even if his chances of getting with a normal woman were shot to hell from the moment he set foot on the island (as if they were ever that good to begin with), he doubted he'd ever be so desperate that he'd find any female-shaped-thing covered in fur or feathers or whatever attractive.
