"Ma'm!" The bird chirruped, scrambling along the park happily. She loved the outside - it was nice and partially cloudy, the grass springy and today, her mam had tied her hair up into two piggie-tails on the side of her head! The black was, anyway, the yellow portion bobbed and bounced around her head.
Either way, it was fun! Almost as fun as her mam chasing after her, boots squeaking on the wet grass and the noises she made. Mam, Cleo had found, was good at running but when it was wet, she tripped a lot.
It made squealing noises and so did her mam, when she fell.
"Cleo!" The Fallen grunted, pushing herself off of the damp ground, nose wrinkled up. "Cleo! Stop running! We need to - CRAP!" Yes, she had said crap. Censoring her language was slowly becoming a habit. "We need to get somewhere! CLEO!"
"Roon'in' mam! Roon'in!" Cleo laughed, grabbing at a tree-base. "Roon'in een da g'aas!"

Aaah, there was something near magical about wet grass and sprinklers and the smell of someone's really, really soaked pet dog that had been running around a few minutes before. Etain stopped on the edge of the grass, inhaling deeply with a marked sense of apprecation.
He sagged a little when he exhaled, a content expression flitting across his features before he forced a smooth polish of complete innocence across his features and looked back to the low wall where Tovar had settled himself on with a book in his lap.
"Tovar?" Etain called, head quiking and tail flitting backwards and forwards. "Tovar, c'n I go run through the sprinkler?" An' get super incredibly wet and all covered it bits of grass and probably loose a sock.
The young man glanced up from his book, eyes trailing darkly past Etain to the expanse of wet-grass-and-sprinkler-system. Nngh. "I suppose," he allowed, grudgingly.
With a whoop of triumphant, Etain flailed out onto the grass and floundered through the nearest sprinkler.

Poor Etain. He didn't see what was coming,r eally. Cleo clutched on the tree only until her ma'm came at her in that way that she KNEW she would grab her. Then the little bird RAN - ran like hell and through the wet grass, her little sandles flapped in the wind - and were then discarded.
Oh well!
The girl squealed, wind in her hair, wings pressed tight to her back and then - BAM.
What?
She was dazed and confused, on the ground, whining softly in her throat. "Wha...whazzat?" Cleo whimpered, pushing herself up. Her tail feathers were ruffled and it wasn't very comfortable - her wings were all aflutter too! What WAS this strange thing that hit her!?

There he was, just minding his own innocent sprinkler running business -- and then Etain found himself suddenly crunching to the ground, hind end first followed by an impromptu thump of the crown of his head smacking against the wet earth.
Stars. And swirly bits at the edge of his vision.
--W-what on earth had that been?!
Slowly, trying not to jostle his brains because they definitely felt like they were going to go slopping out one ear, the unicorn levered himself up into a sitting position. He blinked about himself, silent, for a few seconds, large brown eyes falling at the strange little girl without actually registering what part she might have played in this whole thing. And then --
Ding.
"Oops," said Etain, for lack of anything better to say.

Cleo just stared at the boy. He was white! He was white like Erako but there were no wings. There was a strange curly-q comin' out of his head! It was then that she realized HE was looking at HER and the little girl 'eep'ed, pullig her wings around to cover her face. Only her eyes peeked out, yellow and wide.
"Sowweh." Came her soft squeak, ignoring the uncomfortableness of her ruffled feathers. "Keey-o was roonin' 'way from ma'm an' wassant lookin' an' an'..."
Her voice tapered off and wings fluttered back. "Yow whiate." Nod nod.

Etain stared at her. He couldn't help it! What...on earth was she saying?! It was...really hard to understand - like trying to listen to Michael and Tovar through the door with his ear pressed against the wood; everything sounded a little funny and fuzzy, meaning Etain could only pick out a word hear or there.
But white. He got that last bit. Deciding to snatch on to it like a life raft in a storm, Etain remained where he was seated as he spoke back to the (apparently) shy little girl. He could feel the damp of the grass getting into the seat of his shorts.
"Yeah - an' yer yellow." Well, and other colors too, but definitely yellow.

He had replied to her! And, obviously, didn't hate her. So Cleo pushed herself up fully with a little squeak and smoothed her yellow dress. There were stains and watermarks, but it was still yellow and pretty!
The boy needed inspecting! So the cheerful girl flounced over, leaning down to peer at that horn-thing. "Hown?" She inquired, fingers moving to tap at the tip - her digit hovered. Mam said it was rude to touch without asking but--BUT! "Ca'I tahch?"

Oh. Well. Maybe she wasn't as shy asEtain had first pinned her for. It seemed like all the winged kids he'd met so far were dratically different from one another. "Y-you can, but careful!" he forewarned, going a little crosseyed trying to follow the motion of the yellow girl's hovering fingertip. "I-it's sorta sharp. So dun poke the very end 'cuz you might bleed on stuff." Like her yellow, very very yellow dress.
Which would be a shame, in Etain's honorable opinion. It was a very lovely shade of the color, grass stains and wet patches aside.

Cleo hesitated and instead settled for petting at the whole of the horn, throughly ignoring the sharp pointy-ness on the tip with a little giggle. "S'pwetty." She finally assesed, nodding and plopping down next to him, legs crossed.
"Wha's yowh nayme?" Cleo leaned in, nose-to-nose with the older boy, eyes wide and on him. "Ahm Keey-o!"
Rapier could be hear, growling in some distance away. Cleo paid that no mind, though. The white boy before her was her main concern.

Etain smiled slightly, squirming a little. Maybe this girl would be fun - a good person to play with, maybe. He wrinkled his nose a little, giggling as she poked her head closer to his. "'m Etain," he chirped back, long ears flicking slightly. "'s nice t'meet you, Keeeeey-oh.'
Someone was making weird noses, though. Frowning just slightly, Etain straightened a little to peek of the bird's shoulder and toward the -- oh no. The unicorn quickly ducked his head back down, the little hairs at the back of his neck standing on end, tail flicking nervously.
Augh, the itchy feelings.

"Meep!" The little girl squeaked, scrambling behind Etain like he was her sheild to the world. "Tha's m'mam! She's not in gooooood mood." Cleo nodded empathatically, arms wrapping around Etains neck, leaaaaaning in with a squeak.
"Whysyer hair standin' like that?" The prickled hairs on Etains neck found themselves under investigatin, Cleo nuzzling at them curiously. "Wha's wrong? Ma'm'll not hurt'choo! Promises."
So much for her promises. Rapier managed to find her daughter, skirt hiked up to her mid thigh, corsetted chest heaving and her hair, the hair she so proudly bound up almost every moment of the day, had found its way tumbling down her back.
Her lips were NOT pulled into a smile. "CLeo." Voice low and even, pointed ears flicking. "We have to go."
"Nuuuuuuuu~ WAn'stay wif EEtane."

Oh no. Ohnoohnoohno. "Er," said Etain, shifting uneasily as Cleo scramgbled around behind him, her short arms wrapping around him, cheek pressed against the back of his neck. "I--er--M-maybe I s-should g-go..."
Too late. The woman was there in all her busty, good-looking glory. And Etain felt like his skin was crawling off his bones in an attempt to escape. He forced himself to look away, trapped between Cleo and her mother by the little girl's arms. So instead, he stared very very hard at the nearest sprinkler and tried to ignore the woman.
"Schkk, schkk, schkk!" said the sprinkler.
"Nghkk," said Etain.

"What's wrong with him?" The slave trader grumped out, moving towards teh child and the toddler. Cleo squeaked, pulling Etain away from her mam as she came over. "Cleo, come here. FOr the last time."
"No!" The goldcrest, stamped her foot on the ground, clinging onto Etain. "I Keey-o wan' stay wif EEtane." She nodded again, cheek pressing into his soft, soft curly hair. "He'soft."
"Cleo." Rapiers voice had softened, lips pursing again. "I think I'm scaring him. Let him go and come here."
"EETAAAAAAANE." Cleo clung, wings moving to fold over them as well, shrielding them from her mothers view.

Etain's fingers shook as he ducked behind the protective barrier of Cleo's wings, letting the feathers act as a buffer between himself and the woman. All the shouting was making his ears hurt. The itching and the screaming, and Cleo being upset -- Etain didn't like it.
Slowly, he pushed aside Cleo's wing, large brown eyes swinging slightly uncertainly toward the little girl's guardian. "Please g-go away," Etain said, shoulders hunching slightly, large body effectively blocking most of Cleo (with the exception of the little girl's wings) from her mother's view. "She wants t'stay here."
Cleo was good. Nice. Friendly - and if this woman that made his skin crawl and his eyes hurt was going to upset Cleo, Etain had the distinct feeling that it would be better to chase the woman away than let her get nearer.

"I know she wants to stay here," Rapier responded, voice taunt. She was being patiant with the kid - honest she was. He was being nice to her psycho daughter but she needed her. "But Cleo wants a lot of things."
"Dis Etane." Cleo repeated/squeaked out towards her mother, face pressing against the floofiness that was his hair. She was quieter now - her mam wasn't yelling and her other mam wasn't there to make her feel bad. Golden eyes peeked up, fingers spreading some of her feathers as well to peer at her mother. "An dun'wan go."
The woman took a few steps back from the children, arms folding over her chest. "Etain, pleasure to meet you. I'm aware Cleo is clinging to you and--"
"D'corp?" The goldcrest chirruped out, bouncing around Etain, wings forgotten, to plop on his lap cheerfully. "Dahgahn?"
"I-wha-cleo get off his lap!"
