I've got one:
'Tis called The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and is by Tom Wolfe.
It's non-fiction, but reads like some sort of warped fairy tale that happens to take place in 1960's California. The central figure is Ken Kesey who wrote One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (another great book) and who was one of the first people who started the "acid revolution". He discovered acid and other hallucinogenics while volunteering for experimental tests at a mental hospital and he copped some and shared the wealth.
I don't advocate LSD or drugs of any kind, but Acid Test is definately a great book because it gives you a great discription of the culture and the people in America during the psychedelic movement in the 60's. And I'm reading it for my English final, so that's kind of a bummer, but I like the book anyway.
I could go on about other books but I want to know what other Gaians have to say.

My father really wants me to read that. But, I can't find it anywhere.
I think it's been banned from the public library.
Anyway, I am interested in reading it...

I've heard about that book and was going to use if for research, but I couldn't find a copy in any of my surrounding libraries, perhaps for the reason phriedphishphan stated. O:
But now that it's got a positive review, I might just buy it. (:
If I don't eat up my meager stash of cash in other ways first. biggrin

A book I think everyone should read, especially poeple in high school, is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I think the author was able to capture perfectly what it's like to grow up. I think there's something in that book that everyone can relate to in some way. It's beautifully written.

I am Legend My fave book. Its about how the last man on earth survives when every other man woman and child is a vampire. It deals with all his problems, about what hes done and what he is going, as well as how he copes with it all.

I really liked The Wave. We read it in middle school when we studied the holocaust and then in sociology my senior year we watched the movie. I was like, "woah, there's a movie of this?!"

I'm sorry you can't find it. I got mine at Borders, and it was kind of expensive for a paperback. Then again, I'm kind of cheap. sweatdrop I don't know why they would ban it unless if you live in a really conserative area and even then... I don't know.

Feed by M.T. Anderson and Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger are two books I heavily recommend.
On my "To Read" list right now is Neuromancer by William Gibson and Cinderella's Big Score: Women of the Punk and Indie Underground by Maria Raha.

How about
Make Your Own Damn Movie- Loyd Kaufman (even if you don't want to make a movie)
and of course his first book
Everything I know about Filmmaking I learned from the Toxic Avenger
and of Course, any religious book now matter how unlike your beliefs it is, is a good read. Even the sickly unintentionally funny
Cults, World Religions, and you- Kenneth Boa
If this guy gets his point across, that means that you believe buddhists are hell's warriors. This is not supposed to be as funny as it is.
The Bible
The Quran
And a damn good read, and movie based on it
Tanto and the Lone Ranger Fist fight in Heaven, made into the movie Smoke signals. Forgot the author.
