Okay... so this is mainly A Fai/Fay/Fei/Fye/WTF-ever issue. His name is pronounced like "Fai" and spelt that way in japanese, too. However, when written in english from japanese sources it's spelt "Fay"...
I try to spell it "F-A-Y" since that's official, but whenever I spell it that way, my brain pronounces it like "Fei" when it sees the name. So I've decided to sometimes spell it F-A-I and sometimes F-A-Y, just to keep the pronunciation *I can't spell crying * right.
So what about you? You can talk about other characters names who are often messed up *shaolan, anyone?* Kind of a boring discussion, I know. biggrin

Fai is spelled Fai, but prounounced as Fai. And Syaoran is written down like Syaoran, but pronounced Shaoran. Shaolan doesn't make sense!

Well often/usually japanese R noises sound like L's. whee
Fai is spelt F-A-I according to Del Rey, but not in Japan. razz I'll go find some evidence if anyone doesn't believe me. Last time I checked, Tsubasa was from Japan, not New York or where ever the hell Del Rey's located. So yeah. I'm saying it's official if it came from the real thing, not a translation.

Yep, Syao-kun is right! It's Fay D. Flourite, not Fai D. Flowright. I just can't get over how "Fay" is pronounced in English, though, so I'm often writing Fai. sweatdrop
Syaoran's name is easy to explain...He's from Hong Kong, and his name is Li Xiaolang. (That's how you pronounce the Chinese characters.) Japanese people can't pronounce rs and don't really have Xs in their language either, so they did the next best thing - Syaoran! ^____^
Japanese Romanji: Syaoran
Chinese Pinyin: Xiaolang
So yes. Syaoran's real name is Xiaolang but has gotten used to Syaoran because that's the only way anyone can say it. >.>

And also, I hate spelling Fay's name like.. uh... that. <--- But it's official, so... >_> Mmmrrrrhhh... gonk It's just... bleh. But! Switch the F with a G and hey! What do you get!?

I first got into Tsubasa having known the wizard we know and love as Fye, but then I switched to Fai. I'm aware of the official Fay spelling, but like SyaoWoof I think "Fay" is pronounced "Fei" whenever I sound it out. I blame Gekijouban Aa, Megamisama's Morgan le Fay for messing me up. XD (didn't find out about the real Morgan until now, thanks to Wikipedia)
@Phiso - It's neat learning other localized versions' names. X3 In the States, Tomoyo was Madison and Eriol was Eli. @.@

I remember when I first read the manga, I somehow managed to pronounce Syaoran as 'Sai-oh-ran'(which my best friend still calls him ^^; I put emphasis on the 'oh' and she puts it on the 'Sai' making it sound pretty weird) and then heard the anime and was like WTF until recently after watching a lot more anime. XD Ao is such a weird word/sound/whatever. Aoi is even harder for me to pronounce because 'A-oh-ii' sounds...weird.
What's strange, though, is that even though Syaoran was originally from China, in the Chinese dub of CCS, Sakura's name(at least, her first name) was directly translated into Chinese(Sakura to Xiao Ying, Xiao being a cute-nickname-ish thing for kids, a little like -chan(forgive me if I messed up here), and the Ying being from Ying Hua, the Chinese equivalent to cherry blossoms), while Syaoran's was...Wang Xiao Ming for some odd reason. Sakura's is 'Mu Zhi Bin Ying' (did I mess up there? @_@)However, the kanji in the TRC Chinese manga for 'Syaoran' or 'Xiao Lang' is different from the Japanese version. Odd. Quite odd. I think, at least.
Fay D. Flourite is official. <33 It says so in the CARACTere GuiDE. Gotta love it. <3
And it seems the TRC Seishirou is quite powerful, with a five in power, five in special, four in technique,, five in mental power, four in special and four in charm. Considering five is the max, I'd say he's pretty strong, mentally and physically. [off topic ^^;]
...I also manage to associate Fay with Morgan as well. ^^;
The Americanized CCS just appalled me. 'Showron' is nowhere near the original pronounciation, and where the hel ldo you get 'Avalon' from Kinomoto?! @_@

I always spell Syaoran wrong! I have to read it over a few times to make sure I spelt it right.
I was in Japanese class, and according to one of the shows we watched with Japanese subtitles ( blaugh ) It was spelled FAY.

i spell it "fay" in public now, because all of those fans who need everything perfect (not making fun, i'm one of them >_>) will attack me if i spell it any other way. i only spell it fai when i'm talking privately on aim with syaowoof, just so i don't start pronouncing it "fei."
i always knew how to spell/pronounce syaoran. X3
hmmm...i really don't like the name changes in cardcaptors. :/ they don't make any sense to me. changing syaoran's last name to his first name is fine since it would probably make more sense to american kids, but where did they get AVALON?! @__@ and tori for touya..? i thought that was a girl's name...T__T
