The scar on his shoulder was still fresh, more of a series of scabs than scars. Moving through the grass at a steady pace, Toshiro scanned the lands. Cubs were abound in the Pridelands, but he had caught wind of trouble. He was here only on a visit. There would be no cubnapping from these lands.
Silver-ended tail twitching, the adult lion jumped up atop a rock to scann. Green eyes narrow, the piebald lion frowned. Wasn't there supposed to be life in these lands? Growling a bit, he shook his silver mane out. He didn't see much life, and it displeased him greatly.

Tufani was wandering through the grasslands, headed for the very same rock that Toshiro was standing on. She knew that it would be a good vantage point for spotting where the herds were. A good hunt was what she needed; she had herself, her mother, and her five jackal siblings to help feed. She didn't expect to catch anything large enough on this trip, but she'd at least be able to help the growing pups.
What was this...? Another lion on the rock? Tufani had never seen this person before, but then again, rumor had it many rogues were joining the pride. Perhaps he was one of them. At any rate, she couldn't very well be rude. "Hiya, Mister!" she called out when she felt that she was within hearing distance. She had probably scared off some of the herds, but she had all night to find food.

A silver ear flicked as someone called out to him. Turning to look in the direction of the call, Toshiro raised a brow. "Well, hello there..." A lioness, and she was a stranger to him! This could prove interesting to him. Sitting down, he curled his tail a bit as he watched her approach. "Who might you be?"

"My name is Tufani," she said as she closed the distance between them. There, she wouldn't have to shout anymore, and she'd have someone to talk to now. How pleasant. She had a bit of a gut feeling that she was going to like talking to this lion. "What is your name, and brings you to the Pridelands, Mister?" she asked, using the title she used for all males even slightly older than her.
Noting the series of scabs on his shoulder, the lioness did her best not to stare at them. That was certainly interesting, but a question to ask later.

Silver-ended tail twitching, the piebald lion watched the lioness. "Pleasure to meet you, Tufani. I am Toshiro." He smiled, one that to the trained eye reflected calculations in the mind, but to the untrained was simply a pleasant gesture of greeting. He noticed her eyes move to his series of scabs and shifted so that she couldn't see them. No sense telling anything about them yet... His mind was already cooking up a lie about their origins.

"A pleasure to meet you, Toshiro," Tufani said, not noticing the calculating behind the gesture. She was a bit naive when it came to the world around her, having grown up in the Pridelands under strict protection. Even when she was living in the thorn patch, she felt no real danger. And since this lion was shifting to hide the scars, he was probably just trying to avoid talking about a silly accident.
"Are you one of the new rogues that joined the Pridelands recently, or are you just explorin'?"

"Me, new...? No, I'm not staying..." The piebald lion watched the lioness, tail flicking now and then. His life growing up was in a Graveyard, where danger could lurk around any skull when you lived on the same lands as hyenas. Silver ear perking, the male continued to just... Watch her. "I wander the lands, I have no home. I don't seek one yet, either."

"No home?" Tufani asked, her expression one of curiousity. She had been homeless once, it was true, but that was a temporary situation, and it wasn't something she had chosen. This was interesting indeed. "How do you compare all the places you've been to if you don't have a home?" She then shook her head and blinked a few times. Now this wouldn't do; she was being a bit rude. "Not that it's wrong to not seek a home. In fact, I don't know if seeking one out is a good idea. From what I've noticed, homes are the things that seek you out, not the other way around."

"I had a home once..." He smiled, remembering bounding about the bones as a youth, even having an encounter with Mafa when he was a cub, chasing his younger brother. "But I left not long ago. See the world, you know... I can't stay in one place forever." Shifting just right, he scratched at an itch on his side with a dark hind paw. "Besides... Graveyards aren't always the best place to live, and I just wasn't cut out to live there forever. When I feel ready to find a new home, I'll find one."

"A graveyard as a home? It sounds a bit spooky, though an interesting place to visit, I suppose." The lioness blinked a few times and sighed. "Sometimes I feel a bit wierd, because it seems like I'm the only one who hasn't gotten the urge to wander far from home. The furthest I've been from this area was the jungle, and I was only there for the time it took me to find my way back here. I don't know...I guess it's just because this area is so vast, I have plenty of new things to discover each day."

"Oh, yes, if you stand on the right skull and look over the bones in the moonlight..." A pleasurable shiver ran up his spine. "When the moon hits the glowing mist and the bleached bones right, the view is simply to DIE for." He sighed happily, remembering the bones, then frowned. "I don't know if I'd ever go back..." He laughed lightly. "My brother and oldest sister don't seem keen on leaving, though... My other two sisters are long gone and my mother... A hyena got her and she died out there somewhere. So I've just wandered around to try and find my place... Besides, the world's much bigger than any one territory."

"The world is bigger," Tufani said quietly, frowning slightly as if she were pondering seeing this place that the other lion described. It didn't sound as bad as her mental image of a graveyard; it sounded almost interesting, apart from the threat of hyenas. She'd been warned about that as a cub, even being in the relative safety of the Pridelands. "Perhaps I will get the urge to see it when I'm older and not burdened with so many responsibilities," she said, more to herself than to Toshiro. "I am sorry about your mother. If anything happened to mine, I don't know what I'd do. It would probably make me want to leave this place, to tell you the truth."
"Anyway, that's depressing talk. Would you like to come with me to help me hunt? I'm sure we could carry back more food to my family together than we could alone."

"Of course... You didn't think this was the entire world, did you?" Stretching, he slid down off the rock. "There's deserts, jungles, grasslands, lakes, rivers... I hear there's even a massive lake called the ocean... Out there... Somewhere..." He motioned with his darker forpaw, then walked around the female. "I can show you a way to make hunting easier... Less effort..." Padding over to a spot, he began to dig a series of narrow yet deep holes. "You do this in several spots, over a good sized area... And then you chase the prey beasts towards this spot... A couple are bound to step in a hole and fall, breaking a leg or more. Then it's just a matter of killing them."

"The ocean...that sounds interesting, I suppose. I saw the jungle once, when I got lost, and I liked seeing the water fall from the rocks," the lioness said, before she stopped herself from saying more. She didn't want to sound overly stupid. She couldn't tell why this concerned her so much, but it did.
A new method of hunting sounded good, especially considering it was supposedly easier and took less effort. The less time hunting was more time for other things. Tufani pondered the method as she watched Toshiro dig the holes. "What if too many prey beasts fall into one of the holes? It's against the law of the Pridelands to kill more than you can eat. I'm sure I could offer some food to the family that lives nearby, but that would generally be frowned upon here."

The male finished digging, then padded over to the lioness. "That's why you section off a small part of the herd. Cause it to split, that way only a couple of them will trip. You also make sure not all of the holes are deep enough to cause serious damage, so not all will die." His tail flicked. "Besides, not everything dies because we kill it. If a plague swept through, it would kill most every lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and prey beast it touched without a care as to who it touched. Disease kills more than I'm sure it can eat. Besides, if anything, you can drag the leftovers back to the pride. There's probably enough mouths to feed there." Not that he knew what it was like to be in a big pride. The Maziko were a small pride, even after all this time. Yet from what he'd heard, the Pridelands had been blossoming...
