My family is into church. Really into church. When I told them that I'm agnostic, they honestly didn't seem to understand. Whenever we argue, they argue from a biblical standpoint and I have to make them realize, once again, that since I don't believe it I'm not going to take it as a logical argument. I've been going to church all my life and still do on most Sundays and Wednesdays, although only for social reasons and because I like to win arguments with my small group leader. I went to a Christian school from fourth to seventh grade which taught young- earth creationism and Bible as subjects and because of it am still behind in school more than I should be, even though I'm in 11th grade now. Sometimes I find myself reasoning from a Christian perspective because I'm so used to it, and have to stop myself. Christianity has had a negative influence on me and made me a more closed minded person than I ever should have been and, despite my disbelief in it, it still controls some of my thought process. How has Christianity affected your life? Has it helped? Has it hurt? Has it kept you from seeing truth in things right in front of you? Discuss.

This forum's kinda slow. Anyways, I'm a Christian and it has affected my life positively. I can't truely prove any of this to you guys, but I believe that my faith has saved my life and that God has blessed me in many ways. I don't think it has made me close minded. I think it's possible to be an open minded follower of Christ and be able to see the truth right in front of you.

Ashes_Fallen Wow. Popular thread... stare I've been giving it some thought... I'd say both. I was raised catholic. And I have some hang-ups from that. Things liiiike, I have no problem with gay people. They can do as they wish. But the "screaming queen" stereotypes still make me mildly uncomfortable. Things of that nature bug me a lot. Apart from that I'm not sure it's had a large positive influence either.

As of 5th grade, i chose aethism, yet my entire family is very religious, as well as most of my freinds, so not only do I get crap from my freinds at school about it, i'm worried about telling my parents due to their reaction( methodists and christians, all of them crying ) and i still have to go to church, which i find dull and unimportant, i was (up to 5th grade) very good at bible study and stuff, so i find i'm always havgin arguments about problems and contradictions in the bible.

christianity has taught me that if someone doesn't like my religion, and they don't want to believe in it....i can kill them and my religion says its ok.

I'd never have got into philosophy if Christianity hadn't been so flawed, thus providing me with a limitless source of dsiproveable material. So yeah, Christianity has been a positive influence.

I have a hard time believing many things involving the church. I was born and raised Catholic, but I only believe in the concepts used in the teachings, not the mountains of bull they try to make us believe. It's nice that they want to help us with certain aspects, to give us a lighter side of everything ["There is a god and you don't have to worry about dying because he'll take care of you."] which could lessen the fear.
I did develop morals, though, and a sense of self. It's nice to know I've got a positive outlook on life and know where I've come from and that I have control over where I go.
I live a life without regret, and I think that's the part that gets to my family. I'd like to believe humans are stronger than we give them credit for and we can live without an ethereal father figure.
