Ashki sat comfortably under the shade of a rather large tree. It had been a couple of months since he had ventured into the Pridelands and had chanced upon Kit. Not too long ago, they had admitted to one another that they were in love and everything had been smooth sailing since then. He was rather relaxed and pleased with his life, everything having been going perfectly ever since Kit had come into his life.

Sprawling out slightly, he glanced around him, waiting for his mate and this lion she had said she would bring. Supposedly, this lion was a good friend of hers. He believed her and trusted her, but he was just a little nervous. What if him and this other lion didn't get along?

Shaking his head, he forced himself to think positively. He wouldn't mess this up, this would go perfectly smooth. He would meet this friend and they would get along just fine. He'd make this work for Kit, his one and only.

Sniffing the wind a little, he thought he smelled the two coming. Or, really, he smelled Kit (he really didn't know the scent of this other lion). Rising to his paws, Ash shook out his 'mane' and looked around, attempting to spot the two.

Kit, unlike her beloved Ashki, was excited about the prospect of her two best friends meeting. She had woke up that morning with a smile and it was still present on her lips as she padded through the Pridelands with her very first friend, Jini. "I'm sure you'll like him," she said confidently. After all, the males were similar - shy and caring, with big hearts.

Earlier that day, when she had found Jini, she had told him about the fact that she and Ashki had become mates. She had mentioned him on previous occasions, but only as a friend, and so it was a big deal for her to tell her best friend that she was in love. Jini had agreed to come meet her mate (although she wasn't sure how enthusiastic he was about the idea) and they were almost to the tree the Ash was resting underneath.

As he came into view, her eyes lit up and she murmured to Jini, "That's him!" With that, she leapt forward, greeting Ashki by rubbing her forehead against his and purring affectionately. "Hey, Ash," she said happily before pulling back and beckoning to Jini. "Ash, this is Jini... Jini, this is Ash."

She beamed, waiting to see if they would get along.

For the last day or two Jini had been struggling with something inwardly. So when his friend had come to see him he hadn't been quite ready. He had been more hesitant then usual with his words and his reactions, almost as if he were checking everything he did. He had taken the former firekin's advice to heart. He was trying to change. But he had gone along with Kit willingly, knowing she wanted him to meet her mate. He had to admit, he was interested to see what kind of person he was.

He slowed his pace when they neared the tree, letting Kit dart ahead. He trailed after her slowly and when he reached them he had gathered enough courage to do his best to be confident. It was still a struggle, still a fight against what had become a habit to him, but he kept trying. "Hey," he murmured, offering a small, uncertain smile.

Ash heard footsteps coming from his right, and instantly he flicked his gaze that way. Sure enough, there were two lions, one was his mate and the other was a lion he didn't recognize. He assumed that was this Jini Kit had been talking about. Immediately he became shy and very uneasy. He kept thinking that he would mess this up and that it wouldn't go well..

Caught slightly off guard, it took him a moment to realize that he was being nuzzled. Smiling sheepishly, he purred and nuzzled his mate back, afterwards glancing up towards the other male.

"Nice to meet you," he said quietly, his ears falling back in embarassment. After all those days of confidence and pride with Kit, this was all he could do? He felt ashamed of himself, ashamed that he couldn't do better for the lioness. Perhaps, though, after they broke some of the ice, he would be able to loosen up and talk easily with this male.

"Kit's told me a lot about you," he stammered, trying to make conversation. "I've heard lots of good things.."

What else?

Kit chewed on the inside of her lip when she noticed that the awkwardness passing between the two. Clearing her throat, she sat down beside them and frowned in concentration.

Finally she said brightly to Ash, "Jini is the reason that I grew to love the Pridelands. He was the first lion I met here - and my first friend." Turning to Jini, she added, "I met Ash when I was on my way to join your pride." A smile slipped across her lips at the memory. "He decided to come with me."

In reality, she had convinced him to come with her, but she decided not to tell him that. With a soft purr, she looked between them quickly, hoping that maybe the information could spark a conversation. If not, she began to think of other topics to bring up. These were the two most important lions in her life... she was determined for them to be friends.

Jini paused, feeling his stomach twist in nervousness. Don't speak in any way that will bring yourself down...it was easier said then done. His ears shifted awkwardly and he smiled sheepishly, though he struggled to keep the motion up beat. He could do this. He had to do this. Besides, this was his best friend and her mate. He was among friends. "I'm happy for you two," He told them with a nod, settling back to sit in the grass, his tail curling around his feet for comfort. He struggled not to bow or duck his head shyly. "I hope you guys are liking it here?"

Ashki seemed to be a little more at ease than Jini, and he wondered why that could be. He didn't appear threatening or intimidating, did he? He had been a slave for so long.. he could never think that he looked in any way dangerous.

Glancing between Kit and Jini, he cleared his throat silently. He tried to think of something to say, some subject to talk about, and he was relieved and grateful when the other two seemed to do it all for him. It took a little bit of weight off his shoulders, and he tried his best to act calm and relaxed as he answered.

"I think these lands are just absolutely beautiful," he said truthfully, looking to Kit and smiling. The lands weren't the only things he thought were beautiful.

Looking back at the other male, the purple lion flicked his ears curiously. "So have you lived here... all your life?" he asked. Ash had been here there and everywhere ever since he had been a cub, never sticking to one place for so long. For some reason lions who had lived in the same place all their lives interested him.

Kit was surprised to see that Jini had become the more uncomfortable of the two. She stood up and pranced over to him in a cublike fashion, butting her forehead against his shoulder in a playful manner. Then she swung her head towards Ash and gave a broad grin. "I know you two are having a great time chatting it up," she teased, "but how about we take a walk? It's a beautiful day and there's nothing that says we can't all talk as we go."

The young lioness stepped away from them and padded a few steps forward before looking expectantly over her shoulder, flicking her tail. "Well?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with love for her best friends.

Jini nodded his head at Ash slowly, "Yeah...I was born here...and I never really leave, to be honest." He almost felt afraid in saying so, like admiting he was wet behind the ears. Well...he was, in a way, but it was rather embaressing. But a distraction quickly appeared at Kit motioned them all to take a walk. He bumbled to his paws probably faster then nesessary, "O-ok.." He began to walk after her self-conciously.

Ash nodded at Jini, finding it strangely interesting that he had lived in one place for so long. He wondered what it was like, growing up always knowing that he had a home to come back to and that he had a family here for him. The purple male hadn't really had that kind of comfort and support, and he thought it wonderful when others did.

"Must be nice knowing you always have this place to call home," he spoke softly, glancing down at his paws. He just wished he could have had as good as a childhood as some others. But, born a slave, his life had never really looked good. Yet now..

He purred as he bounded after Kit and nuzzled her affectionately. Things were better now. He had a home now, and he had a lovely mate whom he would always love no matter what. And there was Jini! Though they had only met, Ashki found himself liking the fellow already. He reminded him of himself, and he felt a sort of connection between them.

"A walk sounds nice," he agreed, standing close to Kit but also close to Jini. Today.. was a good day.

Kit allowed herself the tiniest of concerned frowns, briefly leaving Ash's side to rub her shoulder against Jini's as they began walking. She wasn't quite sure what he was feeling, but something didn't seem right, and so she gave a soft reassuring purr and a smile before padding back to her striking purple mate, pressing against him lovingly. No matter what Jini was feeling, she was with two of her favourite lions and couldn't have been happier. Kit hoped that Jini felt secure enough with her to confide whatever was bothering him if he wanted to, so for the moment she shrugged it off.

As they moved across the field, a soft scuffling noise caught her attention and she stopped, her ears perked and whiskers twitching. Green eyes scanned the ground and finally they fell upon a plump field mouse nibbling on a seed. Sneaking a look at her two friends to make sure they hadn't noticed she had stopped yet, she let out a fierce roar, startling the mouse into running away - directly in their direction. It was too small to provide a meal, or even a snack, but the playful Kit had found that the little rodents could provide much entertainment.

"Y-yeah...I like being able to stay in one place...though I'm pretty sure my mother doesn't agree with me there..." He trailed along behind them, feeling a little comforted by Kit's touch. Kit was an extremely good friend of his and he could never forget that. And it wasn't that he disliked Ash. No, he seemed like a great fellow. He just couldn't help but feel shy around new people.

He jumped at Kit's roar, his hairs standing on end in surprise. He had not been expecting anything like that! So dazed was he that he missed the mouse completely, not that he would have chased it anyway.

Ash noticed that his mate's friend seemed a little on the uneasy side. He wondered why. Was it something he had done? He hoped not.. he had tried his hardest to appear completely friendly and harmless, as he was. But he could understand the nervousness that came with meeting a new lion, especially a male. He hadn't been so confident himself.

The male was forced to come out of his thoughts at the sudden roar of the female. He hadn't even seen her stop or spot anything or whatever! This was all a complete surprise, and it caused him to stumble over his own paws and fall flat on his face.

"Ow.." he mumbled, missing the mouse completely. He hadn't even noticed it.

For a moment Kit was incredibly embarrassed, wondering if perhaps she should have given some warning. A tinge of a blush rose under the fur on her cheeks and she smiled sheepishly at them. The mouse scuttled away to safety and Kit padded back up to them. When she saw that Ash had fallen, her eyebrows arched with worry and she fell to her belly, nudging his cheek lightly before pressing his side to hers to offer support for him to stand up.

"There was.. er, a mouse," she said lightly, still grinning nervously. "I thought maybe we could play or something... well, I guess it's my turn to be the awkward one, isn't it?" She looked down at her paws, shuffling them a bit. "Sorry if I startled you two." Suddenly she looked up and smiled. "It's strange that I'm almost an adult, but I still want to act like a cub." She flicked her tail quickly and added hastily, "Okay, I promise I won't roar anymore," with a twinkle in her eye.

Jini cleared his head quickly at Ash's fall, moving over to his side slightly with a worried glance. He opened his maw to saw something, but Kit beat him to it, showering Ash in affection. Jini left it at that, since it was probably more helpful they he would have been anway. So he too a conciderate step back, his ears moving to the side slightly as he wavered between a sheepish smile and a worried frown, "You...alright...?"

Oh course, at Kit's comment Jini was quick to be ashamed. "I'm s-sorry...I didn't see it..." He said duckng his head in an apollogy, "Guess I...let it get away..."
