Over the last couple of weeks, Jini'kali had noticed a change in herself. She had been eating far more, had been gaining weight, and there had been emotional changes. Instincts told her what it was - Pups. She'd gone with the flow of it, letting nature take its course as she ate for... She didn't know how many she was eating for, really, but she ate for however many there were.
While Topas was out foraging, on a day when cotton puff clouds drifted by, the silver and white ratel stayed at the den. Discomfort had plagued her all night, and after a few hours, it was evident why. Three little pups, each a perfect blend of their parents. Stretching slightly, Jini watched them with a slight smile. Adorable, she had to admit it...

Topas carried back a leaf full of small field mice for him and Jini, luckily he had enough to feed him and her this time. Lately, since he had been dropping off some things for Yakuti, Topas was getting a little better at hunting himself. It had been a long while since he showed his love for his mate and was wondering why she had been acting wierd. She has been eating more, easily tired, and gotten rather big. He didn't dwell on it since Temari was just like that before and now she was slimmer!
Topas was nearing the den when a faint scent of others than Jini came to him. Who else was here!? Topas dragged the food into the den and his jaw dropped, the leaf of mice fell to the ground. He could not believe what was before him and under Jini.
Pups.

Silver ears perked a bit as they listened to the sound of another entering the den. Green eyes opened and looked up, dancing when Topas came into view. A smile made it onto her maw as she shifted, presenting a much better view of the three little balls of fluff. "Welcome home, Daddy."

"Jini...are they....?"
He was speechless as he crept closer to the now mother. Three of them, three little ones. They were so small and so....fragile. Slowly, he sat beside her and nudged the pups. Two males and a female.
"Jini..."
He whispered softly, nuzzling into the silver female. He was a father, he never thought of it ever happening. Actually, he never even thought he would end up with a female! But he did and this was the result.

The darkest of the pups stirred from her sleep, she looked the most like her father of them all, she had his eyes, his pelt, even his face markings! It seemed that the only apparent trait she had gotten from her mother was the diamond mark on her forhead.
Her eyes had yet to open, but her nose worked fine. She smelled another, her mother and her siblings were there, she knew that, but one more had come. She didn't know it yet, but it was her father, curious, she began pulling herself towards the new smell, unable to stand as of yet.
When she got there, she pressed her nose into his fur, absorbing the smell and putting it permenantly into her mind. Omoa, as she had been named, squeaked happily and curled up next to her father.

Tail wagging lightly, the female returned the nuzzle, then watched their one daughter move closer to Topas. "Look at that, she's already so independant." A chuckle escaped as she smiled.

Topas smiled softly and laid down next to Omoa and Jini. This was so wonderful, he has a family now! Two boys and a girl it would seem and with the female he loved. If it weren't for Jamaa, he would not have been social as he was. If it was not for Temari, he would not have wandered around so much above ground. That all resulted him in coming to Jini.
"Yes, very independant." he whispered softly, nuzzling his mate. He never dreamt of ending up with a female, he thought he would just spend his life free and unchained. But he was sort of glad he did. "Jini, I am so happy, this is our family." he purred looking down to the ratel pup that shared the colors of her parents.

All that pulling herself around was tiring, the baby ratel yawned and drifted off to sleep, completely unaware of the significance of her parents words. She didn't even know they were words yet, right now they were only noises coming from her mother and father, that was about the only thing she knew at the moment.

A slight yowl escaped the oldest babe as he shifted a little bit in his restless sleep. The sound of his younger sister yawning filled his ears, and caused him to mimic her. Eyes still closed, he tried to move his legs more, but hadn't determined how they worked yet. So, he surprised himself by kicking one of his hind legs and yelped, trying to get closer to his mother.

Topas smiled softly, moving his paw to his son, moving him closer to his mother and himself. A little help would not harm him, right? Just getting him to start on the right foot.
"This one...I dunno, what do ya think?"
Topas smiled as he looked down at the pup under him. He rather liked this one. Independent. Now who did that remind him of? A smiled crossed his maw.
"Omoa will be this little one's name. Would ya like to the otheh two?"

A thoughtful expression crossed the female before she smiled. Nuzzling at the silvery pup, she said, "Let's call this one Kiyoga, and this one..." She nuzzled the black and silver male. "Kizuka'dogo." With a happy sound, she groomed each of her pups in turn, then nuzzled Topas. "They're all perfect..." A light chuckle. "And their markings stand out so much against their coats." A yawn escaped the female as she settled down. "But now... This's all worn me out..." Settling in for sleep, Jini'kali smiled. "Night, Topas..."

"That is because they are from us, their markings and coat stand out because they are from you."
He purred as he curled up against her, the pups between him and her bellies. It was just so wonderful, he never imagined that he would ever have a family. Omoa, Kizuka'dogo, and Kiyoga. They were his and her's.
In the back of his mind, he knew his family was safe, Yakuti assured it. He had to thank him from keeping that monster of a jackal, Goma from his family. Jini mustn't find out that their family was in jeopardly from that damned beast. Luckily, he was able to get Yakuti to save them and their relationship. Topas would have to think of a way to thank the hyena.
"Good night, Jini."
He whispered as he pressed his head against her's, his eyes falling down on themselves until he was out. Now it was to dream of the future.
