Okay. So, I love both yaoi and yuri. I have way too much time and was posting both yaoi and yuri pictures last night (couldn't sleep). It got me to thinking about the differences between yaoi and yuri. I mean, I love yaoi because of the totally gorgeous men, the wonderful stories, romance, and sex (duh). But I also think yuri is hot beyond words. The only thing I've really seen of yuri, however, is mostly very lovely colored pictures and tacky (in my opinion) porn-esque things. I've run across a few very short pieces of yuri manga and I have to say, it mostly sucks. The art and the stories PALE in comparison to my favorite yaoi manga(s), which have really taken my breath away at times. So wtf, mates?
What are your thoughts between yaoi and yuri? (I hope I can talk about this here since its a yaoi guild) Am I just missing all the amazing yuri manga that's carefully hidden somewhere, or does it just not exist? Btw, I know most women draw the yaoi manga, but what about the yuri? Is that mostly drawn by male artists? That could explain one reason for the suckage. Totally kidding! Don't hurt me, guys!
What is your preference between the two? Has everyone else pretty much experienced the same thing as me?

I prefer yaoi to yuri because its always diffrent. Thought the doujins always have the same paring (IE, RoyEd, Narusuke, HarryxRon, HarryxSirius, GaiKakashi. And TaishixMat (digimon) Xp )). But there stories can also be cute. >w< And once you start reading a yaoi/shounen-ai it keeps you hooked! O: Atleast until someone peaks over your shoulder and starts bugging you. D:
From what ive heard yuri is just straight on sechs with a dumb, or very little, plot line. But Yuri sometimes can have cute art. Thats the only redeaming qulity. o3o
Though when it comes to Shonen-ai and Shoujo-ai CLAMP does excellent work with both. <3

@ Shukaido: Well, technically, yaoi stands for "No climax, no point, no meaning." I've read plenty of yaoi that is just "straight on sechs with a dumb, or very little, plot line." But you're surely right about there being more variety in yaoi. Or so it seems anyway.

Yuri seems to have less of a fanbase, so there isn't as much variety available... It's a shame, too, because yuri/shoujo ai/femslash can be SO sweet if it's done right... There's one particular example that I'd like to mention, but I probably shouldn't because it was only published a few days ago, and I don't want people beating me up for giving out spoilers...

@ RionaDaidouji: So true....I really think it's a shame that there's not as much good yuri out there. I'd love to see it done well. Do you have any examples of stuff that's already out? What was the name of that yuri you're talking about?
@ KaitouKunoichi: LOL! rofl

It's actually femslash, technically, since it's not anime/manga, but it's in the latest book from the Kiesha'ra series, by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. I'm not going to say which characters are involved, and how much of it there is, but just that there is some in the latest book, Wolfcry. (The series starts with Hawksong, then Snakecharm, then Falcondance, and most recently Wolfcry)

">.> I'm both into yoai and yuri but I prefer yaoi any day well the artwork sometimes doesn't make much diffrent but since yuri is mostly directed for males some details are left out and the story seriously lacks it just goes straight to sex now I'm not saying yaoi doesn't do this but from what I've read uasually yaoi has a story and drama

I prefer yaoi much more than yuri, though that is probably just because I've never read, just seen yuri pics. And Normally, when I see yaoi pics, they're from an anime I know or there's a manga online available, while when I see yuri I can't find any manga and when it's a pairing from an anime I know, I think it's kinda impossible and immediately just throw it away.
And then again, there's plenty of yaoi pairings I sincerely do not understand. Like, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. It's just me, of course, and there are plenty of people who like it, but I don't think those rivals could ever consider taking each other's hand, let alone hug or kiss. It's just weird to me, as many other pairings of both yaoi and yuri.
But I think that's not what this forum is for, sorry about that.
Conclusion(obvious in the first paragraph): Yaoi over yuri. whee
