Nereida was not going to let a couple clouds stop her day at the beach. So even though it was overcast and cool instead of sunny and hot, she and Darsais were still between the sand dunes rigging up their raft, the Lady Redwood as she had been christened that morning. There was still a hint of pink to the light wood planks from it's previous battle with the sea monster, but that was about all that remained of the old raft. It had been completely overhauled with a sail, better rudder and paddles, and low walls to keep too much water from winding up on it.

All in all a much more seaworthy craft.

After giving it a quick once ove, she looked at Darsais, who was standing mutely on the dune.

"Go see if you can see Gage and Jack yet!" Nereida called up to her. Darsais nodded and hurried up the dune to go look.

They'd both chosen windbreakers and shorts today over bathing suits. for what they'd be doing, it would be much more convienient.

And it wasn't like they were actually planning on getting in the water.

The invitation had been met with joy on Jack's part and amusement on Gage's. They were finally going out for their sea adventure eh? Well he could get on board with that. After promising Ronnie that they'd be safe and assuring the woman that nothing could possibly go wrong, both he and the young Kybernetik geared up to head out. Jack kept his normal clothes, over sized coat and all while Gage opted for a tank and some cargo pants, along with a short sleeved button down that he left open.

Gage, Jack, and the ever present jar of dirt, left the apartment under the clouds and began on their way down to the beach. It was empty for the most part and so they didn't have to weave in and out of towels or umbrellas. Seeing Darsais standing on the dune, Gage waved and to show the he saw her.

Jack was rather excited, this'd be the first time he met them since having his body and he'd be able to match faces with some of the vague voices he remembered. Trotting along beside Gage, he waved to Darsais as well. "Which one is that?"

"That's Darsais, a kybernetik like yourself." Gage answered climbing the dune to meet with the girl. "Sorry if we're late."

"Nereida's finishing up with the raft," shrugged Darsais. "You're right on time." She looked over at Jack and seemed to take a moment to recognize him. When she did, she smiled. "Hi, Jack!"

To her great dismay, he was taller than she was by a fair amount.

"Follow me!" She hopped down the dune, motioning for them to follow. "Nereida, they're here!"

The green-skinned fae looked up from the knot she had finished tying and waved to the familiar dark-skinned fae and who she could only presume was Jack.

"Great!" she called, hopping onto the raft, which bobbed only a little bit. It seemed much sturdier than the day in the lagoon. "We'll leave any time now!"

Gage and Jack followed down the dune after Darsais. The raft was looking nice, but then again neither Gage nor Jack had been around for the sea monster debacle. For which they were glad. Still the raft was looking more and more like a proper sea faring vehicle.

Jack's eyes widened with glee at the sight of it and easily ran down and hopped inside, jar of dirt safely tucked under his arm. "She's a beauty! Nay, a sight to behold." There was an odd loving touch to his voice as he petted the wood of the vessel. "What's 'er name then?" Eyes bright with joy he asked Nereida. The fae girl was immediately exalted to glory, what with her owning a boat and all.

Gage was impressed maybe not as much as Jack but from Nereida's description at the fast food joint, this boat was a step up. "It's looking very nice Nereida." He said in his formal tone. Secretly, he was only wishing that the thing could keep them all afloat. His swimming was still kind of ...iffy... at best.

"So let's set a course then!" Jack piped up.

Nereida finished helping Darsais into the raft (Ah, the disadvantages of being short!) and looked over at Jack. She was practically beaming with praise - this raft was her baby. "The Lady Redwood," she announced. "And you all are here for her maiden voyage!"

She had a feeling she and Jack would get along just fine - he was almost just as knowledgable about this kind of thing as she was!

"Come on Gage, hop in." She motioned, before paying attention to Jack again.

"I just want to try her on the open ocean," she explained to him. "This is a perfect launching point because the water leaving this little channel stops the waves. Once we get out, the sail can catch the wind."

Darsais pointed to the canvas currently hanging limply from the mast and a crossbeam. "That's a new addition. We just got it a few days ago."

"So Gage, are you getting in?"

Jack squealed with delight and continued petting the boat. "'S a good name for her me thinks!" He added. Yes, yes this strange fish like girl was truly a sea faring warrior. Though he may have wanted to go out and find loot of some sort, a trip on the ocean seemed to be just as good.

He turned back to his brother he was eyeing the boat wearily. "C'mon then Gage! We've not got all the bloomin' day!" He didn't understand what the older boy was so worried about. The boat was sturdy, and they had all the proper requirements, why was he being so squeamish about it?

Gage checked the boat one last time before stepping into it. He had a strong feeling that the knives he brought along wouldn't save him from a watery grave... how do you fight the ocean?

Still, after he was on the raft, it didn't look as if it would sink with his added weight. "Okay... now what are we supposed to do?" The young boy obviously was inexperienced with these kinds of situations.

At her sister's signal, Darsais untied the rope keeping them secured to the beach. Nereida pulled the paddle in the center of the raft towards her, sending them gliding forward. "We're going to get out past the waves," she explained as they rounded the end of the dune. As they passed the waves, the wind whipped up around their ears.

"Darsais, angle the sail so we're going north."

Darsais nodded and grabbed the end of the sail, hurrying to tie it down to a knob on the wall of the raft. "Jack, can you tie the other side?"

Jack nodded once setting his jar of dirt down near Gage. "Watch over it!" He commanded the older fae sternly before shuffling to tie the other end. With defter hands than a child should have, he had it done. "Aye aye!"

Gage, being rather useless on a boat, sat back out of the way. Remembering his manners, he gestured to Nereida. "Oh, Nereida, this is my little brother Jack if you hadn't figured that out. Jack this is Nereida, she's a fae like me."

Grinning he added, "But on this boat you'll call her Captain Canary!" That was still her pirate name wasn't it. Oh and he had one too right? "We'll get you a pirate name too."

"I don't need a new pirate name, I AM a pirate!" Jack motioned wildly with his hands.

"He's Jack Sparrow!" Darsais exclaimed. "He's the only real pirate on this trip!"

Nereida glared at her sister. "Don't you forget this is my raft and I have nothing against pushing any of you overboard," she threatened jokingly. Darsais stuck out her tongue.

Darsais pretended to ignore her and and sat up at the front of the raft, looking ahead. The wind was pushing them swiftly along the coast, and there was just enough ocean spray to tickle her face.

"Isn't this awesome?" she asked Jack and Gage.

Jack beamed at Darsais. "That's right luv!" But he did understand that this was someone elses boat, not his, though he'd get his beaut some day. "Aye, Captain Canary, so who are you!?" He asked gesturing to Gage.

"Er... I'm the first mate..." The Gage didn't see why, he didn't know anything about pirates really. Turning his attention to Darsais he added, "Yes, it's really nice out here, though the sky looks a little forboding." A glance up showed the darkened clouds overhead.

"Nonsense, any day is a fine day for a voyage!" Jack piped in. It seemed the boy had quite a mouth on him.

"The wind only makes it better," agreed Nereida. "You wouldn't like it if it was hot and calm."

"He's Goldeneye Gage," Darsais told Jack, remembering overhearing it at the Gambinoburger. "I don't have a pirate name. Nereida say's I'm too small to be a pirate." She scrunched up her nose and dragged her hand in the water next to the boat. It was absurd how fast their little raft was moving in the wind.

In the distance, there was a dull roll of thunder.

"We don't have to head back yet," Nereida shrugged. "It'll blow over."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 16, 2006 8:13 pm

"Aye!" Jack agreed with Nereida vocally. "Tis no storm that'll keep us pirates down!"

Gage began to think that maybe his little brother was too into the whole pirate thing... but technically he was a pirate... maybe? Still he watched as the water flew past the little raft. Was there actually a way to get back to the shore? "You're not too small to be a pirate Darsais." He said, "You are here with us aren't you? We need to find you a name." There was the feeling that Darsais probably knew more about pirates than he did. And if he got a name, so could she.

Darsais squirmed, unable to think of a name. "If I was a pirate..." she sighed. "I'd be.... I'd be... Bloody Darsie Dare! Arr!"

Nereida raised a round of applause for her sister. "An excellent name if I do say so myself."

The wind began to pick up, and the little boat bobbed on the waves. Sea spray whipped their faces until they were all quite wet.

Thunder rolled again. It seemed closer.

"Aye!" Jack shouted in joy as he applauded Darsais as well. A fine pirate name indeed! Though he failed to see the need for new names. Their own would suit just fine wouldn't they? But it was fun, so that was the point right?

The salty water and fast air were rather nice and the young boy enjoyed the feel of it against his skin. The sky looked a bit testy and seemed to clap down at them specifically with its thunder, daring them to go closer.

Gage... was much more weary of nature than his little brother aparently. As the foreboding sky and loud thunder were more of a threat then a dare. And yes, there was a difference. Still he gave Darsais a thumbs up as the boat rocked a bit more.

For some reason he had a feeling like this wouldn't end well.

The thunder clapped again and Nereida rushed to untie the sails so that they would slow down. "Darsais! Help me with these!"

Darsais rushed to untie the other knot and secure the ropes to the mast. The raft slowed down and came to a bob on the quickening surf.

Really, they weren't that far off shore. They could swim it if they really had to.

And what was that? It seemed to be starting to rain.

Nereida grabbed the paddle and began to skim them back towards where they had come from, but it was somewhat slow going.

"Now we should head back."
