I read this book AND I LOVE IT!!! I was wondering if anyone else likes this book (or any creation of Arthurian legend) as much as I do. Feel free to express your opinions, whatever they may be.

For the poll, I voted for Mordred. No one can beat a good villain! Muwwhahahaha!

Sorry, Arthurian legend has a whole lot of characters . . . if your favorite isn't one of the choices, just post the name of your favorite character. Yeah, I'm curious . . .

Lancelot has my vote, though Mordred and his brothers are a close second.

I just had to read Malory's Morte Darthur in one of my classes, (which is where the title Once and Future King comes from), and suddenly I've become very interested in King Arthur and the legends. I really must read that over Winter break.

I've always liked the character of Merlin in both book and film adaptations of the legends. Alas, I have yet to read this title, but it is on my list of books to get.

Merlin has always been one of my favorite's. Morgause is another favorite of mine, there's nothing like an evil half-sister to make a tale more interesting. There's a really good trilogy that I can't remember the name of right now or the author. The first one is The Seeing Stone and the third is King of the Middle March. The Sword of the Rightful King by Jane Yolen is pretty good, too. The Once and Future King has been on my reading list for a while just haven't gotten there yet.

Merlin is a very screwed up character is this book, which is another reason I love it. I knowing as much as he does plus his means of knowing it has driven him a little mad.

Merlin is a little whack in the novel, but I love him just the same. I liked the Once and Future King a lot. I especially liked the view that Gwenhyfar wasn't blond haired and blue eyed for some reason.

Another adaptation I read was The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Thick book, but well worth the read.

I have been unable to read The Once and Future King but I have read a multitude of other books pertaining to Arthurian Legend. Personally, my favorites are the Arthur returns type of books, like Avalon: The Return of King Arthur by Stephen Lawhead, and his Pendragon cycle is a good series about Arthur's time.

-flails- I had to choose Mordred, but then I also adore Merlin. And then there's Morgan...

Thank you so much for replying, everybody! It's nice to know that I'm not one of the only Arthurian legend fans out there! To add onto the chatty business, I guess I'll list a few more King Arthur books and my opinions on them . . .
Sword of the Rightful King by Jane Yolen (not necessarily the greatest Arthurian legend book out there . . . I guess I didn't really like it).
The Book of Mordred by Vivian Vande Velde (a VERY loose interpretation of Arthurian legend, but funny . . . I liked it, actually).
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (I haven't yet read it, but it's sitting on my bookself and I've heard all kinds of good stuff about it).

Yes; I am responding to my own thread, but I couldn't resist . . .

I've not read it yet, but the movie was good in my opinion.
Nothing wrong with replying to your own thread. wink

The movie was good of course, but as always, it couldn't do justice to the book. However, I'm not going to butter things up and tell you that MoA is an easy read, because it's not. It's long, and takes a lot of patience, but I assure you it's well worth it. If you'd like the gist/general feel of MoA, without the novel, the movie's a good option.

I loove reading Arthurian legends. There was one book I read, that wasn't directly related. It was about a bunch of teens who are each based upon people in Athurian legend. I can't remember the title, but throughout the book, it had quotes from the poem Lady of Shalott before each chapter. If you know this book's title, tell me, b/c it's driving me nuts
