okies. so we will start from scratch smile check out this site: http://www.myjapaneselessons.com/mjl/HiraganaQuizServletthat should help you learn your hiragana and then you can take the quiz when you feel you know them all. some words you will need to know: konnichi wa = hello sayounara = goodbye (polite) jya mata = cya (casual) namae wa = my name desu = is eg. namae wa jess desu (my name is jess) sai = age i think that will do for now....so learn those words, learn your hiragana and let me know if you are having any trouble. i will post some more words for you when you think you have these ones down pat smile mrgreen

when i figure out how to put japanese on here then i can show you the types of characters you will be learning.
with the writing there are 4 types of writing, but one of them is never used in japan. first off you will learn hiragana, this is a phonetic syllabary in which the symbols *characters* are curalinear in style. so this means that the hiragana characters are cursive compared to the other characters.
the next form of writing is katakana. this is the second syllabary used primarily for foreign names and places and words of foreign origin. eg. Canada. These characters are also really straight compared to the hiragana, but they have the same reading and meaning.
the third type of writing is kanji. this is based on chinese characters and ideologies with each conveying an idea, and most characters have more then one reading.
the forth type of writing is romanised japanese. this is still japanese but in a form of writing that people from anywhere *pretty much* can read. so for eg. watashi wa jesu desu. this means i am jess...it is in english format but japanese.
Do you understand everything so far?? i hope im not confusing you.
so for eg. using all these formats....except the romanised japanese cause it isnt really used in japan anymore. watashi wa Kanada ni ikimasu. I am going to canada. watashi = i/me wa = particle *usually comes after watashi* I will explain a bit more about this particle later Kanada = Canada ni = particle *will explain a bit later on* ikimasu = to go
i have some work to do so i will post some more stuff for you when i come back online later. if you like i can post something every day or every couple of days to get the ball rolling. i hope you understand this and next post will be the first lesson, and please tell me if your confused or have any questions and even some feedback on how im teaching you would be good so i know where to improve. smile thanks

Thank you XD Yes i do understand a little. Its sinking in....trust me. That would be cool if you posted something different something everyday or every couple days or even when your free too because i dont want this to get in the way of your job because being a fire fighter is way more important than this alrighty? I promise ill tell you if im confused or not gettin it ok? I do have one question tho..... Do you use the book Japanese For Busy People? lol....yes, its my pleasure teaching you.
Godemonite Do you use the book Japanese For Busy People?>
yes i do. my dad gave me this book years ago and i have been using this for a basic with my teaching cause i have a student here that i go out and teach every week so i use this book for basic stuff and expand on it and use examples and the like.
thats good. really good. Well some for now is....thank you so much for being my teacher and.....shoot i dont know what to say yet...im sorry> aaawww....shucks redface thats ok smile im really happy to be teaching you. 2 reasons, cause i love helping people out where needed and secondly cause it gives me a kind of an idea if i wanna teach it or just stick to being an interpreter. so thanks for being my student smile i will post your first lesson either later today or tomorrow. the stuff about the characters was just an intro. so yea. anyways, talk to you later
