Covet slipped into her room long after Veronica had been closed for the evening. Long after Matty had affectionately ruffled her hair and told her goodnight. After she had been left alone in the dim after hours lighting of the colorful bar she had stepped up onto the stage that had become her true home. It was here that she became herself. No masks. No guards. No fear. Smiling happily, she had given a little twirl, her skirts blossoming out around her, and then she picked up her mandolin and began to play a soft, peaceful melody. Finally at ease and completely relaxed, she had set her mandolin to the side to head upstairs.

With a clear mind, she shut her door behind her and walked straight to her closet. Reaching far into the shadows, she produced a cherry wood box with a deep, blood red hue. Smiling softly, she stroked the lid with her teal tipped fingers. Lifting the lid a lighthearted melody with an undertone of rich darkness drifted up to her ears. Dipping her hand into the small box, she lifted up a smooth pure white shell. Tracing her fingers over the shiny surface a soft smile teased her lips as she remembered clearly the day Mecca had gifted her with it. Setting it to the side by her knee on the floor, she reached in again and lifted a small downy feather, white tinged lightly with purple. Lifting it, she ran it lightly over her cheek, closing her eyes as she listened to the soft melody that chimed from the special music box.

Opening her eyes, she stretched her left wing out and reached for one of her adult feathers. Smirking, she didn’t even flinch as she yanked one of her feathers out. Shaking off the slight sting, she tucked her wing back against her back and reached for a small spool of silver ribbon.

Having the day off, Covet strolled leisurely along the seafront of Port Cephei, enjoying the warm sun on her pale skin. Humming softly to herself as the sea breeze toyed with her hair, she arrived at Mecca’s home and shop. Slipping inside, she shut the door behind her and glanced around.

“Me-chan! I’m here,” she called out lightheartedly.

Mecca was in the basement shop writing in his item journal. The thick leatherbound volume contained a sketched picture and description of every item that had passed through his shop. There were two books one for items to be sold and another for items he had kept or been given. The whole process saved him a hell of a lot of work when similar items appeared.

He did not look up as Covet came into the shop. Merely smirked a little and continued to write, his progress lit by a thin shaft of sunlight streaming through the basement windows.
"Good day." He said as he finished sketching a flat glass plate. "What did I say about that name?"

Covet smiled at his bland greeting, then smirked at his question.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," she smirked, stepping up behind him. She leaned down over him, slipping her arms down his chest, and pressing her cheek against the side of his head so she could see what it was he was working on.

"I have something for you," she said, nibbling lightly on his ear once his sketch proved to be uninteresting.

Mecca smirked again and placed his quill down on the desk.
"Oh really?" He asked raising an eyebrow and reaching up to twist her hair arund his hand. "May I see?" He asked smoothly shifting in his seat to face her.

Smirking still, she pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. Reaching under the bright scarf around her waist, she slipped her fingers around the feathers, bound tightly together, the smaller feather layered over the larger one, by the narrow silk silver ribbon. Easing herself onto his lap, she slipped them easily out into the open and twirled them between her fingers. She smiled and traced a line down the side of his face, watching the pale feathers slide easily over his crimson skin.

Mecca watched her with interest as she slipped into his lap and twirled the feathers around infront of him. His smirk turned to a grin as he caught the feathers and examined them in his hand.
"What is the ribbon for?" He asked with interest, tracing his fingers over the soft feathers and looking up into her eyes.

Smiling at his question, she plucked the feathers up from his hand.
"It's simple really," she started, holding his eyes with hers as she reached behind him, freeing his hair from the black leather thong that he used to keep it tied back from his face. "I can't properly explain, nor do I want to, but I'm bound to you. Both in childhood and adulthood," she continued as she selected a small lock of his blood red hair close to the nape of his neck. Using the ends of the ribbon, she wrapped them tightly around the lock. Tying them off, she smiled and gathered his hair back into a low ponytail to secure it again with the black tie. Finished, she admired her work. The feathers lay partially underneath the tail, hidden but visible as a stark white against the deep hue of his hair.

Mecca looked up at her and reached behind his head to touch the feathers. Smiling to himself he turned his eyes back to hers and reached a blood red hand up to play with a lock of her hair.
"It is strange." He said keeping his eyes on hers. "Yours is aomng the only company I can tolerate." He smirked and leant forwards to kiss her hard.
"Thank you Covet." He said as he broke the kiss and looked her over.

Covet smiled at his remark and returned his kiss with as much vigor as he gave.
"You're very welcome Me-chan," she smiled playfully, her spirits still high from her meditation the night before and being able to put a genuine smile on his lips, no matter how small it had been.
"It truly is the least I could do for my favorite tormentor after everything he's done for me," she smirked, reaching out to toy with his hair, the feathers brushing lightly against her fingers.

"I'm honoured." He smirked tracing his fingers down her face. "To be your favourite tormentor."

The recovery of the feather had put Mecca in a happier mood than before ... well relatively happy.
"Would you like to do something? As you have the day off?" He asked, looking up out of the window at the blue sky. "Some exploring somewhere we haven't been?

Covet smirked and enjoyed the caress to her face. She arched her brow at his offer and followed his eyes up to the sky through the window. Though she had a sneaky suspicion of which mode of transportation he would be choosing to arrive at their unknown destination, the promise of adventure overrode the small knot of fear already starting to twist itself in her stomach.

"I'd love that," she smiled and leaned forward to place a soft kiss on his lips before slipping away to rise to her feet.

"Where would you like to go?" He asked closing the journal and standing from his seat. Giving her a cold smile he walked over to a scrying mirror and inspected his new present in the dingy glass.
"How about the water temple?"

He reached for his jacket and put it on over his shirt.
"I hear it is something to see? We can even take a portal if you would rather?"

She had been avidly reading his books about the temple when ever she stayed any length of time with him. She found the temple terribly fascinating, but had not been to visit it as of yet. Smiling happily, she clasped her hands behind her back and bounced a little on the balls of her feet in her excitement.

"Oh please? That would be perfect for a day like today," she smiled happily, then glanced back out the window at the sky at his offer. Chewing lightly on the inside of her lip, she looked back to him.

"Um... we can go by airship if you'd like," she offered, managing to keep her nerves out of her voice.

"Illia is on the other end of Shutensa." He said with an amused smirk at her fear. "Unless you have several days to spare I think a portal would be best." He said brushing a small piece of dust from his jacket and looking up at her.
"They have a cathedral there too which may prove interesting."

Walking up to her he held his arm out and smirked.
"Shall we?"

Having been spoiled by the ease of travel provided by the portals, the distance between Port Cephei and Illia had not even crossed her mind. Stifling a sigh of relief, she slipped her arm through his and looked up at him, her eyes bright as they made their way out of his home and towards the portal.
