So, Alys was more than a little bored, and didn't feel like meeting and greeting. The pain and shock of her first transformation had settled, and it was time to do what she always did - Hide. No one needed to see the newly grown appendages. They were sore, and a mix of black and red. She actually, secretly, kind of liked them.
She sat in a far corner of the entertainment room, reading a book on anatomy; a book she had read many times over and a book she intended on reading many times more. That was the least she could do to keep her sanity in this place.
She just prayed no one would ruin it.

It wasn't like there was much to do on the island for Alexander. He'd tried to occupy his time with working on some stuff around the place. For the most part it kept him busy, but talking with others around the place had made him realize he was probably not going to be seeing any airplanes in his near future. And so thats what brought the pilot into the entertainment room.
He strolled in the door, carrying his coat over one shoulder, although he'd left his glasses on, since it allowed him to look around the room without seeming like he was staring. It didn't take him long to spot Alys as she sat reading, waving a hand towards her direction as he walked further into the room.
"Good day", he says, nodding his head, smiling, although it was more to be polite than to strike up conversation, his eyes looking off towards the collection of video games. He had heard there might be some flight sim games in the collection, and at this point, even a video game airplane would be a welcome change from having no airplane to fly at all.

"Good day"
Alys was convinced there was a god... and she was convinced he was plotting against her. Her ears gave a slight movement as she heard Alexander's words. Pleasantries. She hated pleasantries.
"There's nothing great about this day," She replied, typically, with a smart-alec remark. Subconsciously, she raised her eyes from book level, their pigmentation already blotched red. Trying to flip the page proved difficult, with both the fact that most of her fingers were melded together, and now had suckers on them. She fidgetted a moment, letting a curse fly out of her mouth.
The page cooperated finally, and she gave an irritated sigh.
"Nothing great about this day, at all."

The glasses of Alexander's slid a bit from the bridge of his nose as he looked back, his eyes peaking over the top of the mirrored shades, as he spotted the flickering of colors upon Alys' skin and her fingers as they slowly worked at the page of her book with some difficulty. "Uh, of course, my mistake", he said slowly, removing the glasses before they fell any further.
He walked back to a coatrack in the corner, stuffing the glasses into a coat pocket, and then started to walk back, brushing his hair back just a bit. "I guess you're changing, like the others", he says, matter of factly. He strolled over towards the rack of video games, to look them over, not sure what title would peak his interest, but he'd eventually find something with some airplanes to fly, it would only be a matter of time. The emblem of his company was still blazened upon the back of his shirt, although it didn't really mean much since he'd gotten to the island.

"Kind of obvious," Alys replied, another sigh as she finished the next page, starting the process of turning the page again.
"I guess I was given some type of sea creature. Looks like an octopus or something," She added, though not understanding why. Maybe she just needed to talk to someone after all?
Nah, it was just the stress of changing, that was it. Upon closer inspection, she noticed the emblem on his shirt. A pilot? Maybe he crash landed on this rock. Didn't matter much now, he was stuck here. Just like she was.
"Guess it won't be long before they stick you with the needle, too," She said, her accent wasn't as strong when she said this.

The search through the collection turned up a few choices although his attention was diverted from the selection process back to Alys, nodding to her. "Yeah, that would probably explain a few of those limbs..." He shook his head a bit, not in disagreement but more in disbelief of the situation. It was still hard to believe, even though he'd seem some of the 'proof' walking around.
He turned a bit more, to face her, forgetting a bit about his search for a game, towards Alys, "Actually, that would assuming I hadn't already been 'stuck'." He reached back to his neck some, to rub a bit of an itch he had there, walking slowly back over to sit down not too far from Alys.
"I guess I'll find out sooner or later what they did too me. I was a real chwen to take that stupid offer for my business, but thats life. Uh, oh, how rude of me. I'm Alexander Barrett, former owner of Pan-Asia Cargo." The pilot couldn't help but offer his hand to Alys, proving that a few years of greeting customers could get to be something of a habit.

A brow rose in his general direction, and she couldn't help but let out the faintest of snickers. Perhaps not at what he was saying, but mostly the fact that she was still in the room, or paying attention.
Might as well, she thought, reaching out a morphed hand and taking his, giving it a shake.
"Alys Wilson, former mortician and medical examiner for the NYPD. Got conned into thinking this place was a facility for studies in the decomposition of cadavers and the like."
It took her a moment, but the suckers popped off and she was able to pull her arm away. It was official, she would never be able to do what she loved again...

Ok, maybe Alexander should have thought about what he was doing before he'd offered Alys his hand, but it was a bit too late when he realized that the sucker cups on her hand were sticking to his hand. Its not like he had a fear of sea creatures. In fact he used to fish all the time from his plane, but there was a difference between catching an octopus and having it touch you, and a person. And here, the lines were blurring.
It was a bit reactive of him to look at his hand as the suckers came off, the small round dots on his hand making him remember days playing with plastic dart guns in his youth. In fact, it made him smile. Then he remembered the fact she had just said she used to cut open dead people for a living.
"Well, thats an interesting profession." It was just a simple fact. And he didn't want to say that it sounded morbid even if it did. "Interesting how folks end up here though. I had my business purchased... err... acquired, and me, all I had to do was continue to fly for the company and I'd be compensated. Would even get my plane back in a few years... Yeah..." He sighed at the thought. He really did miss the PBY, even if it was a problem maintaining it at times.

She gave a small nod, leaning back in the chair she was sitting on. It was rare for her to genuinely take an interest in the person speaking to her, or what they had to say. She didn't know when the next time that would happen again was, and so, she relaxed a little.
"Guess there's not much we can do about it. I got a bit of a hard time from other, more advanced islanders. The ones I've met anyway. Apparently I'm not supposed to accept the fact that I'm stuck here as a human lab-rat. But honestly, I just don't see the point in dwelling on it... Sure, I'm angry that I was tricked into it, and I'm angry that I won't have the opportunity to learn more and advance further in my career..." She paused.
She was talking too much. Shut up Alys. She gave a meek shrug and let out a quiet sigh.
"I dunno, I just can't not accept it."
Talking too much, shut up. Remember what mum and dad used to yell at you about. You talk too much for your own good.
She could feel her expression change, cold. Emotions were better bottled. She was safe when she didn't feel. No one would hurt her when she didn't care.

The pilot looked over, blinking a bit at the conversation, nodding a bit before rubbing his neck once more. "Well, I know I'm not thrilled at the idea of being stuck on this island..." He stood up, and walked over towards the window, so he could stare out at the scenery, the sky, the trees.
"I was so jazzed to be coming here. Sure I wasn't going to be with the plane I'd been using for the last 4 years, but it was a good opportunity. Getting out of debt sounded like a good plan. Business takes over, I work for them, make some cash, get a nice bonus, and I'm off flying the friendly skies, free as a bird..." Free, there was a term not many on the island seemed to use, at least not anyone he'd met yet. Maybe there was a reason.
He turned from the window, and shrugged a bit, "I almost wish I knew what was going to happen to me. Would make the waiting a bit easier to bear." He then moved back towards the game collection, realizing he would probably rather not think too hard about what might happen to him.

Alys chose to stay silent, for a moment. Thinking on what to say, or, how to put it really. she found herself staring at the extra limbs that had grown, the blackred flesh that felt more like velvet than skin. She was losing her humanity... and it didn't seem to bother her in the least.
"You're gonna turn into an animal... It's as simple as that, unless they've decided to ******** around with the subjects, and have to cut open our heads and takes parts of our brains out..."
Her mind was trying to think logically, scientifically. But for some reason, it couldn't. Because there had never been a record of a human being slowly transformed into an animal. True, to some extent humans were animals, but now the line was dangerously blurred.
"Sorry about being blunt, but that's how I see it."

Even as he pulled out a few of the games from the shelf, he couldn't help but wince at that wonderful imagery provided by Alys' mind. He shook his head. "I'm not sure they've thought that would be a good idea, the latter one anyways. In fact, other than some of the folks acting well.. a bit animalistic.. they seem normal."
You know, Alexander never thought he'd ever call someone normal, especially if they had horns, or tentacles, or tails. But they were people. Or were. And one day he'd be in the same boat. No, he needed to not think about what problems he'd gotten himself into. He didn't want to worry himself to death at this point, and its not like he could just fly off for a few hours, to let the world relax while he spent time fishing.
He looked back to Alys and shook his head. "Nah, its ok. You're entitled to your opinion." The case of the game was opened and he pulled the CD out, his head turned back, checking it for scratches. "Maybe I should go fishing later... It was always relaxing to do, when I wanted to get away from the world. Or at least work for a few hours."

Alys took another moment. He was fortunate to get a break from the world, fishing seemed like an interesting thing to do, and the last few days, she had been thinking a lot about it.
"I used to hide in my wardrobe."
What the hell? Okay, SERIOUSLY talking too much.
"I never felt the need to take a break from work, work was my break from the world. It was peaceful, no fussing, no chaos, no people screaming their heads off and throwing things. It was just me and the deceased. Completely free from the world outside of the autopsy room."
She gave a sigh, and stood up, listening to the pops her sucker-cups made on the arm rests of the chair. She made her way to the window and briefly looked outside.
"The outside world is what scares me. Not the corpse. Not the cause of death. The living." She seemed to be talking to herself, then.
"I might go fishing with you, if you don't mind... I'd like to learn how to fish."

The pilot spun the disk on one of his fingers, before putting it back in his case, and then returning it back to its home amongst the other assorted games. He nodded a bit in agreement or just habit, "Well I guess aircraft and corpes are two different worlds. Not that I didn't enjoy the time I got to open up the engines and poke around for problems."
He looked over to Alys, and made his way back over towards the window. "Eh, the world is what you make of it. Some days the world doesn't want that to be the case." He shook his head a bit, chuckling at a thought. "Wait, you're turning into some sort of octopus, and yet you don't know how to fish? But sure, if you want, I wouldn't mind the company. I'm sure someone around here has some fishing rods we could borrow."

"Then my world must be pretty grim..." She couldn't help but smile at the notion, of a world being what the beholder made it. It always seemed to be what her parents made it - hell. She shrugged it off, letting the small collapse of her safety walls rebuild.
"Never had much time to fish when I was a kid, and I never saw the point to it. But since I'm apparently turning into a type of fish, I might as well learn." A slight smirk. Someone who wouldn't mind the company... Now that was something she hadn't heard in a long time.
So maybe this place wasn't as bad as she first thought. But then again, things had a habbit of turning against her.
"If not, I'm sure the lab techs or the good doc would get some fishing gear for yo- er- us."
