Covet slipped out of the warm golds of dusk and into the dank alleys of Cephei. She had heard that there was a shu with an interesting volume of ancient texts from a passing customer in Veronica. The customer had mentioned that the shu was looking to pass the book along and had no idea what it was that they had. It had taken all of her willpower to not smirk or let on that she had overheard the hushed conference. Apparently the dark green shu was intending to buy it from the unsuspecting seller.
Finishing up her chores at the bar, Covet had left right away for Port Cephei. She didn't have time to go to Mecca first. If she wanted to beat the other to the unsuspecting victim, she had to make haste.

Pale yellow eyes watched her from the shadows. The stupid girl had actually fallen for it. He had heard of her little expeditions of course. Who in the backstreets hadn't seen the beautiful female lurking about and collecting objects for her red friend.
Like all males in Veronica, he was an admirer. Though she had always avoided his unusual eyes. Not anymore however. Now he had her in his clutches.
"Looking for something?" He asked from his lurking place in the darkness.

Covet paused and flicked an ear towards the unfamiliar voice before turning towards it. "Depends on if you have something for me to look at," she replied cooly, arching a brow as she peered into the shadows. She had grown accustomed to dealing with the shus who shunned the light, but for some reason this one that called out to her made her skn crawl.

"I have what you are looking for." he said stepping out into the dim light of the alley. Maybe she would sing for him. He thought as he stepped towards her. "The book you were looking for. I have it."

She recognized him immediately. It was the same shu she had overheard in Veronica. The feeling of disappointment that he had beaten her to the treasure was fleeting. She could sense something wasn't quite right.
"Who says I'm looking for a book?" she challenged steadily, holding her ground as he neared. They always liked to intimidate, she thought vaguely, holding his pale eyes with her own.

"Why else would you be lurking around here in the dead of night." He said with a slight smirk on his lips. He stepped forwards and grabbed her by the arm. Spinning her he slammed her against the wall and held her there fast. "Big mistake girl. Running so far away from your precious bar."

Covet frowned and tried to yank her arm away, but only ended up gasping as he spun her and slammed her into the wall. Cringing at the impact, she tried to breathe but couldn't. At his ominous words she found that she couldn't agree more as she tried to think calmly of a way out of this mess.
"Mistake? Hardly. I'm constantly roaming away from there," she managed, a knot of fear twisting itself in her stomach. "If you had wanted to see me outside of Veronica, all you had to do was ask instead of playing these silly games," she smiled lightly, looking at him with an arched brow as she attempted to turn on her charms.

"Really now." He laughed twisting his hair around his hand and yanking her head to the side. I hear you rather like these games girl. Isn't that the real reason you lurk around these streets." He pulled harder, knocking her head against the wall.
~~~
Mecca had sense Covet was in town. A new skill he had managed to aquire through his training. When she did not come to him he became concerned. Pulling his coat on he stepped out of the house on the seafront and headed off into the backstreets to find her.
Covet knew what was coming as he began twisting his hand into her hair. Bracing herself for it, she winced as he yanked her head to the side. Fear filled her eyes at his words and she didn't have time to prepare for the second yank to her hair. When her head cracked back against the wall, she couldn't stop the whimper of pain as her eyes teared up. She wanted to tell him to stop, to cry out for help, but the fear had taken a hold of her throat and she was feeling a little dizzy from the hit to her head.
Mecca found her with ease. The fear was falling off her light a bright cloud of light. Pausing for a moment he rolled his eyes and gave an irritated sigh. She would have to get herself into trouble.
Starign at the green Shu he could feel the anger firing up within him, he did not try to stop it. This scum deserved everything he got. Without a word he stormed forwards. Grabbing the Shu by the collar and dragging him backwards he slammed him into the wall opposite knocking him out cold and dropping him to the ground.
"What were you doing." He asked smoothly. Delivering a nonchalent kick to the green Shu he shook his head and glared at her.
Covet blinked as the green shu was yanked away from her. Turning, she watched as Mecca dealt with him easily enough. Sagging heavily back against the wall, she reached up into her hair to see how bad the damage was. Feeling a bit of stickiness, she quickly withdrew her hand and brushed her fingers against her skirt.
"I was looking for something," she replied, her voice steady though she was visibly shaking.
Mecca watched her check her head and moved forwards to take her hand. "On your own?" He said coldly leading her back towards the relative safety of the docks and towards his house. "Despite the danger you know exists, you went looking for something on your own?"
He was severely annoyed. If he had not been able to get to her who knows what could have happened. It would have all been on his head too, as he was the reason she was lurking around.
"I've done it before and nothing bad happened. I'm well aware of the dangers... but this time was different," she said softly, still a little in shock from the whole ordeal. Glancing up at his annoyed expression, she decided to take the chance of irritating him more by tugging on his hand to urge him to slow down. Her knees felt like jelly as it was and she was still feeling a bit lightheaded from the impact to her head.
Feeling her start to lag he stopped and gave an irritated sigh. "My point exactly." He said picking her up and continuing his march towards his house. Really she would have to be a total drama queen about things. Her injuries were nothing he couldn't fix with simple magic.
Covet was surprised when he suddenly scooped her up into his arms. Slipping an arm around his neck, she concentrated on his face, a blank expression on her own.
"You're right. I shouldn't have gone by myself," she conceded, twisting his hair between her fingers. "I'm sorry."
