Is anybody going to buy a next gen system (Other than the xbox 360 of course!) as soon as they come out? There are pros and cons when comes to being some of the first owners of some new technology, lets look at them. BUYING FIRST Pros: -You have it 'first' -new games Cons: -hardware issues (I'm looking at you sony...) -lack of games -lack of periperals -expensive (not if nintendo stays true to its word) -that period of about 6 months when no new software for your system comes out As you can see, the cons heavily outweigh the pros. But, people will still buy the console once it comes out, or find ways to steal one pirate

Ben plans on pre-ordering a Wii when he can. He tried a while ago and they weren't taking orders yet, but we will have one pretty soon after they come out. Nintendo certainly has some good sounding release titles.

I rarely buy at launch. Not sure which console I have bought at launch....just GBA XD
Prices are quite hefty - remember PS2 when it first came out? Plus there can be hardware difficulties with new consoles -cough360cough-

I love videogames and all but I'm a very careful buyer, I'll weit till they tweak out any bugs it may have, and see if all their claims are true. Don't want to buy a system that claims it can part the red sea and turn water into wine if it can't do that (sony .-_.-) or isn't as good as it sounds (Wii .-_.-). Personally I'd love those systems but I'll wait for any needed tweaks and some good games. I remember I got talked into buying a dreamcast at launch and was stuck playing demos and 1 other game for a while (forgot which one but I liked it).

To buy or not to buy that indeed is the very esence of this question. A good and striking argument here Skunch, although you did forget some important reason of an early purchase...
arrow It's new product, as gamers we are intersted in new product be it a system or games and so naturally these new system would catch our eye.
arrow Will I be able to play Metal Gear 4: Sons of the Patriots on the Playstation 2? Or how about Dead Rising on the original Xbox? Eventually developers will stop making games for older system and if you want to play something new, your going to have to get a new system.
arrow Price drop? What price drop? How much money do you think a PS3 will be in 2 years? And by then, how many people would have already been experiencing the awesome games and hours of gameplay.
arrow By the time Halo 3 is released, will anyone be playing Halo or Halo 2 online? Probably not, they would probably be as full as a Dreamcast server.
Trust me, there are probably two to one amount of reason to why you shouldn't get a release date system compared to getting one later, but here are just a few reasons why you should.

You know that is true razz a person getting it around when it first came out will enjoy it more than somebody waiting eons for a pricedrop xd I did get a PS2 while it was still "big" it was the systems first year that I got it. There wasnt a pricedrop but it was confirmed that it had no bugs surprised As for the PS3, I'll have to see first if its as good as it sounds, same for Wii ninja Then I can make an intelligent decision wether to get one or the other or both xd

I'm going to save and wait to hear about any bugs or problems with the current systems, then I'll buy. smile
But I swear, it would be funny to see Jin infront of a Playstation 3 display. Should I buy it? No, maybe not. No, I will! Maybe? xd

Cost is the only thing that deters me from buying any of the systems at launch or even close to launch. I waited a few years before I bought a PS2, and I definitely think it was worth it. Saved myself a few hundred dollars and had a MASSIVE library of games to choose from. Right now, I've got more games than I know what to do with. Wii and the PS3 can wait for me for a couple of years. Well, maybe not the Wii. If the price stays at the rumored projected price of around $250, I'll probably pick one up. Twilight Princess just looks SO awesome and I've been waiting too damned long. xd

That's one thing the Wii has over the PS3, the price. Even if it has some bugs, you won't be kicking yourself quite as much with the Wii as with the PS3.
Nintendo, as far as I remember, has a pretty good track record with their systems.

Nintendo, as far as I remember, has a pretty good track record with their systems. That's very true. I've heard many different stories about PS2 units and Xbox and Xbox 360 units failing mere days after purchase, but I've never actually heard of anything like that happening to a Nintendo console. I'm sure it happens, just not as often as the competition. Gotta love Nintendo for making stuff that just works. 3nodding

Maybe? xd That's probably how it's gonna be, I'm that kinda guy rofl I really need to be a bit more frugal and not so stingy with stuff except food and drink ninja I'll most likely get the PS3, once its been 1-3 months where there's no "shortage" like the Xbox 360 that was horribly annoying. If I were a Microsoft fan I'd be really pissed at ol' Bill .-_.-

Zam and DP have brought up are very good point, Nintendo is strong!
If you were to compare products, Nintendo's would all last longer than anyone else. I mean how many of us are still playing with are NES or SNES, and those are old. The DS is way more stable than the PSP, so is the N64 compared to the original PS, I doubt things will change too much now.

Like most NESs mine needs a lot of blowing and hitting to get started, but it works. My SNES actually blew up not too long ago, but I got another one from a friend, though I've yet to try it. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but up until now Nintendo consoles got a released in Japan before they came over to North Amercia, so we have never really had a first release from Nintendo until now. Or did the Gamecube come out at the same time in both areas?

From what I remember, it was released in Japan before it's North American release. Like Jin said, I'm going to be waiting before I get a PS3. It will likely be awhile, though, since I can't imagine how/where I'm going to get that kind of money. xp
