Hey everyone,

It'd be appreciated if you were to share your method of circle casting. whee This will later all be hoarded into a circle casting guide in the academy, for later use.

I'm quite picky when it comes to casting circles - I techincally cast two. Firstly, I grab a handful of energy from the sky, and then from the earth. I pour this into my wand. Facing north, I'll bring the wand down slowly in a zig-zag pattern, visualising soil trickling from it's tip. I'll then have a surge of green light building it into a wall, for the north point. I'll then turn to east, and repeat the process: this time using snow. For fire, you got it: I visualise fire eminating from my wand, like a red glow scorching the air. And for water, yes, I use water.

Next, I'll go into the middle and try and spot any flaws - if there is, I'll patch them out with my hands, like getting rid of air bubbles in a painting.

Now for the 'second layer' (told you I was picky!) I'll stand in an X, and visualise a tree growing from the ground, twining up my legs, my arms turning into the leaves and so forth. When I exhale, I flop to the ground, so that the walls of coloured elements that I built before are engulfed in a 'tree bubble'.

On closing, I'll tear a gap in the tree and let it twine to the ground. I'll burst the walls with my wand, and restore the energy back to whence it came.

Yeup, I'm picky... sweatdrop

Cool, seeing as I STILL have not been in a group circle I'm not completley sure.

I picked a bunch of white pebbles out of the sea quite some time ago. I sit on the floor, the pebbles infront of me and visualise energy flooding into me from all sides, then I take a pebble, one by one and pour the energy into it... I place them so they form a circle and connect them together. I invite my guardian angel into the circle and he covers me with his wings, protecting me.

He has a raven on the shoulder that usually sits on my knee after a while. I used to think it was the animal guide/totem I always got in the cards, but I never asked him. confused

I use my wand and turn (in the limited space I have) deosil 3 times sending white light from my body through my wand to create a circle around me, which then forms a sphere to cover my working area, or just me if I am out and about and feel I need the circle's protection. Simple, but incredibly effective.

I then invite the Lord and Lady, followed by the quarters (usually in dragon form; to either aid or protect me).

To banish the circle after giving thanks to the quarters and the Lord and Lady, I turn widdershins 3 times and reabsorb the edges of the sphere through my wand, finally clapping once to release the magickal energy that I have raised.

I had some difficulties trying to cast a circle. I have tried multiple methods from physical to visual but still not much luck. So what I decided to start smaller. So what I did was visualize a small yellow orb of energy between my hands. When I could get that down pretty I would try different colors as well. When I got all the different colors down I then tried to have a multicolored orb.

When I got pretty good with the small orbs I tried making larger ones. I would slowly work my way up. Then I moved on and made a “personal bubble” so to speak, just big enough to fit my body in. As I got better I would make it bigger each time until I could cast a full circle.

Well when casting a circle I would first cleanse the area. Then I would place colored candles on the four corners and one white candle in the center. Then I would light an purifying incense and walk it around the circle starting north. After that I will light the candles and call the elements starting with earth. Then I would light the center candle and call the lord and lady to join. Then I would cast a circle explained above with yellow light or using some other similar method.

I have a finger-knitted rope which I use as a border rope, which I lay out in a circle, and tie the ends together. I place a symbol of each element at it's respective compass point, and starting at north, using my athame and travelling clockwise, I 'draw' my circle. I send the energy through my athame into the border rope and trace the border rope, visualising a wall, starting at the border rope, and going up forever - I think it's white, in colour. This done, I call the elements, starting at earth in the North. Using my wand, I point to the dish of salt, and 'beckon', saying "I call upon earth, the power to make". I then raise my wand about half a metre, visualising a tree sprouting from the salt dish. I move to air lighting the incense and beckoning, "I call upon Air, the power to take", and move my wand towards me, visualising a trail of wind following it. Fire, I light the candle, "I call upon fire, the power to grow", and with my wand tip pointing towards the candle flame, I raise my wand, and visualise the candle flame turning into a roaring fire. Lastly, I do water - using my wand as I did with air, I visualise the tide coming in, whilst saying "I call upon water, the power to flow."

After this, I ask the God and the Goddess to join me, lighting their candles, and saying whatever words suit at the time. Lastly, I ask my animal totem to join me - lighting her candle, and visualising her statuette on my altar coming to life. I then greet her, and get on with whatever magick I wanted to do.

When closing, I thank my totem, and dismiss her, extinguishing her candle. Then I thank the God and the Goddess, snuffing their candles. Then, I do what I did to summon the elements in reverse- water first, visualising the tide go out, then fire, visualising the flame being snuffed, and doing so. Then air, visualising the wind moving on, then earth, visualising the tree returning to it's 'soil'.

When dismissing the elements, I use the following incantation:

"I thank you water, the power to flow,
I thank you fire, the power to grow,
I thank you air, the power to take,
I thank you earth, the power to make.
Stay if you will, leave if you must,
I give you my thanks, my love and my trust.

Lastly, I walk the circle boundary three times, counter-clockwise - the first, I absorb the energy I laid down to replenish myself, the second, to charge a tool, and the third time, I gather all residual energy, and send it into the earth.

...I think that's all. o_O;

I know I shouldn't be, but i'm actually a tad bit afraid to cast a circle. I'm worried that i'll do something wrong...Even though i've been a practicing witch for two years, i've still never really tried. Instead of casting one, i've just kept my magic at simple things that don't exactly require it...I've read plenty of ways how, it's just I still haven't actually done it. o_O Am I just being stupid? lol. I know I have issues. ^_^

You're not stupid, and we all have issues. xp Mine right now is getting really annoyed at people breathing too loudly/grunting/sniffing/snoring/general-Grandma-noises. ^^;

There is no "right" way to cast a circle. Even if there was, it wouldn't matter if you were using the wrong way as it's your way - each person has their own different way.

So, all I can suggest is for you to just "get-over-it". Experiment - start out small, like shaddowchild. If it feels right, it's right. If it feels wrong - well, don't do it.

I love using chalk to cast my circle, which means I usually cast it on pavement, in my driveway, even though I sometimes take the canoe across the river and draw the circle with my wand in the earth.

Either way, I light candles at the four cardinal directions, and one in the middle. Three around that middle one. The middle is always black or grey for neutrality. North is always red, for fire, south is always green, for the earth, east is always blue for water, and west is always white for air. The three around the middle neutral one vary. The middle one is the one I light when I invite the God and Goddess, and the three around it are for my animal totems (Praying Mantis, House Cat, and Spider).

I walk around the circle once, starting at north, going clockwise, lighting the candles. Silently, for I do not have incantations for each element as of yet (I am still perfecting my circle casting ^^;; ).

After a moment of praying (I wrote a special prayer to Arachne), I invite my first animal totem to join- the spider, and I light her candle. Then I pray again, to Arachne but a different prayer I wrote, and invite the second animal totem to join- the praying mantis, and I light his candle. After that, I pray to Bastet, a specific prayer I wrote, and invite my third and final animal totem to join- the house cat, lighting her candle.

Then I pray to the Godess and God, and invite them to join, and that's when I light their candle.

After I'm done, I go around the circle counter-clockwise, starting at north, and extinguish the candles as I pass them. I thank all of my animal totems, starting with the house cat, then the praying mantis, and then the spider, and extinguish their candles.

After I extinguish the animal totems' candles, I thank the God and Goddess, and extinguish their candle, and I either pour rain water (if it has rained recently and I collected the rain) or just water on the circle if it is chalk, or I step out the circle if I drew it in the earth.

;D And that's how I cast my circle~~

I don't cast Circles sweatdrop I don't have any Wiccan type practices in my Craft. Instead I practice the Traditional methods of drawing the Compass.

I mark out an area in which I will work, and place objects of significance in each direction, with the main "altar" (not a formal one) facing north (not east). I have a rather nice deer foot handled knife which I place in the north area, as a symbol of the Witchfather.
The circled area itself isn't for protection or containing energy, unlike the Wiccan Circle... quite the opposite. The area is used as a calling point to speak to the gods and spirits, and a place from which I enter Elphame. It is created as a gateway, from which I go into trance and travel down into the Underworld. Once I am there, that is where all my magic takes place; not in the physical, but in Elphame itself where it is most effective, and the threads of Fate can be felt and trembled directly to my will.
