Normally, the word magick is used to define Wicca from regular stage magic. I however, do not support that, and use the word "Magic" to try to reclaim the true meaning. Which do you prefer, and why?

I don't prefer either. 3nodding I'm just weird..
It also depends on who I'm talking to - for instance, if I were writing a fantasy story for english I would use magic. I try and respect the term 'magick', it just seems to have more weight behind it.
Melinda, why do you prefer magick?
((Just a friendly reminder: one word posts are against the rules. wink ))

Magic... Because the "new-agey goody-two-shoes, the "let-us-all-be-witches", the "speak-ye-olde-english" and the "rename-everything-so-it-sounds-epic" philosophies aren't my cup of tea. I find it pretentious and fake. I'm more of an Earl Grey/Ceylon kind of a girl. Fruit teas taste just like juice with hot water. Milk please, hold the sugar.

I prefer to use the term magick for 'real magick' - what we do. But anything in a novel, like Jen said, I would use the term magic, and the same would go for stage magic. I don't find that adding a 'k' to the word makes it epic, or 'grand'- it just stops it from being cheap and tacky, for me.

This reminds me of an ongoing argument I have with 2 friends of mine. We've been (jokingly) arguing about the same thing every time we see eachother for the past year and a half.
One of them is a Manowar fan and the other one is a Hammerfall fan... They love them and I think the bands are cheesy and gay... And we're all really stubborn. sweatdrop
It's strange, the different perceptions of things. What prevents the word being cheap for you is what makes it cheap for me. confused Same with those two, the exact same thing that they adore in Manowar&Hammerfall is the thing I hate most.

I use both actually, but I use "magic" more often than "magick". I don't know why.... that's just the way I am.

I don't really have a preference; within a Wiccan community, such as this forum, I say Magick, but in a regular setting, I would use Magic (not always, but you get the point).

Magic.
The only people who should use "magick" are those who know what Gematria is.
