i was thinking about this the other day. all we have really seen of the fire nation is from the point of view of the earth and water nation. i wonder how the fire nation sees itself. what does the average fire nation peasant think of the war? for that matter are we really sure how the war started. all we know is that it started in earnest after Aang was frozen but can we be sure why? just food for thought. i would be very disapointed if they made the fire nation a 2 dimensional bad guy with no real personallity.

I think the fire nation thinks of itself as any country thats invading another. That in the end it will benifit them and the rest of the world will be better under their rule. Nobody thinks of themselves as evil. They might think they are superior. But i am sure just like any other nation that not all fire nation civilons like the war. Im sure some are good and know what bad things will come if their nation succeds.

If a avatar maybe did somthing to anger the fire nation along time ago and gererations of fire lords had been hunting the avatar. Although avatar Roku wouldnt have been that avatar and Ozi seemes like a big jerk without a reason for being that way. mad

Maybe the leader of the fire nation may be bad. But you cant say everyone in the fire nation is bad, i'm sure there are people in the fire nation who do not agree with the leaders of the fire nation. Who knows for sure....

well, the fira nation's leader used the power of the comet to start the war so he could rule all nations. He has a thirst for power. And the last avatar couldn't have done anything, cause:
1) he was fire nation 2) avatars use the peace method 3) the only reason the fire nation suceeded is because Aang disappeared, so nothing stood in his way.
And I think that some of the firee nation's soldiers don't even want to fight against the other nations but are forced to by Prince Zuko's father, who kicked him out because he didn't approve of his plan.

On the new episode Zuko rescued Aang from the other fire nation dude who I do think is evil. I don't think prince Zuko is all bad though. Can you actually blame him for wanting to be back with his friends and family? I mean what would you do? If you were banished from your kingdom and the only way to get back was to capture the avatar?

I have to agree w/ wine150. So Prince Zuko can't be all bad! Since he did disagree w/ his father's plans. I feel bad for Prince Zuko! crying

I think only the generals and people in high power and some of the citizens want the take over. An entire nation can't hate everyone but themselves!

I don't think the fire nation is exactly 'evil'. It's just that they're thinking taking over nations would benefit them but, they don't exactly see it as evil. No one in Avatar sees themselves as evil or doing evil and whatnot. They think that they're doing good for the possible benefit for the people in the Fire Nation.
does that make sense? o.O;;;
