It was getting dark and he still wasn't sure where he was.
The sky was murky and overcast, clouds heavy on the horizon. Soft patches of sky still shimmered through overhead, already displaying a scattering of evening stars. The moon had yet to rise.
Mati whimpered softly and, nose to the ground, tried to trace his way back to the den. For a moment he thought he caught the scent of his mother - there again! - and his ears pricked in excitement. But the female dog wasn't the only one to traverse these pathes. Her scent was lost in a myrad of others.
"Stupid stupid stupid." The pup muttered. He glanced about hopefully, then chose a dirction at random and set off at a slow uncertain trot.

 The adult wild dog was out wandering, he had lost the girl that had said she wouldn't leave him but he had got over it.
The chocolate, caramel dog hadn't noticed the small pup, he was far more interested in finding something to eat, he was hungry. He did however see the small pup, this was interesting.
"You lost?"

Here!... no, wait... there! THERE!... no...
Mati snuffed at the ground and whined. Nothing was familiar anymore and he was definantly lost. Shouldn't have ditched Mikondo, Momma will have a fit and never trust him again!
"Stupid."
With a sigh the pup continued forwards, ignoring the instincts to stay in one place. Perhaps it was this way... a voice cut into his thoughts, seeming to come from the darkness that surrounded him.
"Eee-" Mati took a breath. "Erm, no! I'm not lost!" He glared at the caramel colored dog, hackles up. "And my Momma is right over there, so you'd better stay away!"
He tried to look fierce but his stomach rumbled loudly, ruining any pretence of strength.

Chakelete laughed. "You are the only dog I have seen for miles around, don't laugh now and if your hungry I was about to get something, you can come help if you would like." He smiled softly.
Chake was a good dog, never harmed a fly, well, technically he had but he would rarely turn on another dog, especially a small pup!

At the offer of food - and especially the offer to help - the grey pup's ears pricked. Forgetting any fear of the older dog, Mati toddled over happily.
"You'd let me hunt with you?" He'd never gone hunting before! Momma'd always said she would take him, but she's been so busy lately. Maybe he could learn something from --
"What's your name, mister?"

"Chakelete, what is yours mister?" He stretched his legs while he was there as it wouldnt do him any good hunting without stretching, that wouldn't be any good at all.
Once he had finished he looked down at the pup and smiled, "Come on then!"

Mister? Mati puffed up his chest in pride. After all, he was supposed to be the guardian of Momma's land, and a representative of the pack. He deserved respect!
"My name is Matima, son of Miremba!" The pup declared. "An' this is my Momma's land!" Well, he thought it was, but it was hard to tell. All the grasslands looked the same, and the forest was always a green blur on the horizon...
Mati eyed the larger dog and watched as he stretched his legs out. In what he hoped was a casual motion the pup attempted to copy Chaka. Paws out in front, lower body... there! The grey youth wagged his tail furiously.
"Yeah! Let's go!" He chimed. "What are we hunting?"

Chake smiled at the pup till he said that it was his mothers land. That was weird, he hadn't got a scent of another dog around here, not anywhere. He shook his head and smiled, "Come on this way, we will find a rabbit or something."
He led the pup away to a burrow that he knew was near by. "Rabbits, yummy!" He chuckled a little and laid down. "Now, go in there slowly and flush them out, I will scare them back so you can try and catch one!" He smiled, it was only fair that the pup got to have ago.

"Rabbits?" Mati grinned. He was starving! "I could eat a whole pack of them!" The pup didn't notice Chake's suprise at his announcement about his mother's land. Instead, he was focused on the task at hand. After all, food was the most important thing to a young pup!
Mati pranced next to the bigger dog, tail and ears high. This was great! Hunting was excellent! His small tail wagged wildly. When they paused at the burrow he sniffed, catching the scent of rabbit. "Let'sgolet'sgo!"
... wait. "You want me to go in the hole?" The grey pup crept up to the opening and peered inside. For a moment he seemed to hesitate, even pausing to eye the male dog critically. Then, finally deciding that Chake wasn't trying to pull a fast one, he hopped forwards. "Alright!"

Chakelete smiled and watched the youngster leave, he laid down and he was now waiting and ready for something to appear, something for him to catch anf fill his empty stomach, oh horrible it felt, he wanted to eat something!
