It is amazing. Took my breath away, as well as my time- we were there for three and a half hours, my class and I. The new exhibit- the one on creating the Aryan race- was mindblowing. I saw the chilling pile of shoes, the boxcar, the propaganda... it's really an extremely educational, saddening experience. Here in Florida, over in St. Petersburg, we have a smaller museum, but it can't compare to the big one in DC.
Who's been (Kiashana, I know you probably have)? What are your thoughts on the place?

my grandfather went once and he said he would take me when I was 16 or 18 depending on when he thought i would get the most out of it. We would go to DC for the monuments and stuff all over the place, but that would be the one place we HAVE TO GO right next to lincon thing thats on the back of the penny

I went a few years ago on my eighth grade Washington trip. It was a very sobering experience. It had a great impact on people; even the immature ones in our class could not talk for a while after they came out of the museum. My friend and I stayed together in the museum; by the time we left she was in tears. It took her several hours to fully recover. I think that it was great that we went. It really made the students in my class realize how truly awful the Holocaust was.

Yea, Jyu, I've been there. Two or three times, I'm not sure which. I've even been in the back/upstairs, where they do the research. We know people who work there. Then again, I do live in the area; it's much easier to go when it only takes you ten minutes to get to downtown DC. I first went in sixth grade, when I was eleven. The experience was actually a little horrifying; I had nightmares for a few nights thanks to the stuff on the TV screens that they hid off with fences from the little kids? You know what I'm talking about. It's pretty amazing though. Every member of the guild should go when they get the chance. Every Jew should go when they get the chance, actually. If you're in the area for vacation, let me know, I'd be happy to meet you at a Metro stop.

I've been to Yad VaShem, but I was only ten years old at the time. I think that the Holocaust Museum in DC is aimed at a very different audience. It has to affect the Jews and the goyim, which changes how they do things.

Oh, I really want to visit Yad-VaShem. A few things in the museum were copies or replicas of things there, and from what I've heard it's one of the most moving places anywhere.

I always thought every person should visit a holocaust museum at least twice in their life. There's a semi subsidized tradition in Israel that highschools send a group of either juniors or sentrios on a quest of sorts to Pland to see the actual camps. I went with my highschool, it was tough.

I went with my highschool, it was tough. What a good tradition to keep. I don't know about my country as a whole, but in my city it's part of the standard seventh grade (or sixth, maybe) curriculum to study the Holocaust and visit the museum we have in St. Pete. I wish we could take big groups to Poland, it'd be extremely worthwhile.

The real problem is exposing this stuff to goyim, since so many trips cater to Jews only.

I went to Yad-VaShem in Israel and it was mindblowing. the new museum was a sight to be seen. it took my breath away. even tho i was in a wheelchair at the time with a sprained ankle...i still felt the emotional toll that the museum takes on ones heart. it really tears at the heartstrings and if u dont cry at least once during the many many exhibits you have no heart.

I've heard that Yad-Vashem is just completely sad and somber, while the US museum has a bit of hope and speaks more of the people who helped Jews during the Holocaust. For those who've seen both, does this seem to be the case?
