A new land, a new home. Taliesin now a more private business, run only by those who know it's there. The house, bigger. An old terrace 4 floors of rooms Mecca did not need. This was the house of his mentor, well what was his mentor. The old Shu had passed on leaving the whole place to him. Sheets still covered the guilded furniture and expensive antiques. Even the elaborate bedroom remained untouched. Mecca used only the kitchen and the parlour. His business conducted from the library.
It was early morning, of course the red Shu was up and working. Sat at a mahogany desk in the library drying to decipher an ancient text that had been brought to him. He had been working on it all night and wans finally considering turning in.

Covet ghosted into the large residence, a residual bout of nerves twisting unnoticed in her stomach. It had taken her one month to decipher the language etched on the bottom of the statue she had rescued from the ashes of memories that were slowly slipping away. It had taken her one more month to find him. Keeping her ears open and haunting the shadier streets of the towns she visited, she had been able to piece it all together.
Stepping through the library doors, she cast her cold green eyes around the large room, then strode forward to stand before him.
"How much for this?" she asked, a cold edge tainting her low, flat voice. She reached out and placed the statue on the table in front of him.

Mecca did not look up as the Shu entered the library. The voice that met his ears caused him to close his eyes for a moment drawing strength to keep him calm.
"I'm not interested in buying." He said as he pretended to continue his reading. He knew the item she had placed on the desk though he refused to look up. "Kindly show yourself out. As you can see I am busy."

"My mistake then. I figured its power would appeal to you. But I suppose I should take my business elsewhere," she said, reaching out to wrap her fingers around the statue again. "I'm sure I could find another shady shop that would appreciate what it can do. Seems that it is quite useful really," she said, pulling away, her eyes sweeping over him. She felt herself falter in her resolution to keep herself distanced from the old feelings that he had stirred within her. Gripping the statue tightly, she started to turn to leave. This had been a huge mistake.

"If it is so powerful, why do you wish to sell it?" He asked finally looking up at her and placing his quill back in its holder. His face was blank, no hint of his usual smirk or cruel grin. He knew she had not made the journey across the sea for nothing. "I would be careful outside. This is no Cephei. Darkness reaches out of the shadows here."

"Be careful. You might actually sound like you care," she said, turning back to face him. "I can take care of myself," she continued with a sharper edge. She studied his face for a moment, then held his eyes with hers.
"I wish to sell it because I have more use for money than necromancy," she said, forcing herself to relax her grip on the statue. She was in the door now. He had looked up and acknowledged her.

"Now that is an interesting statement, coming from you." He said raising and eyebrow and leaning his arms on the desk, lacing his fingers together. "Necromancy you say? Well, you've certainly come to the right city to shift it." Standing from the table he stepped around it and walked up to her. "May I see it? I might be able to point you in the direction of a good buyer."

Covet let his words roll off her back and held the statue out to him, then thought better of it. Retracting her arm, she continued to hold his eyes. "Why did you say it Mecca? Why would you say such a... private thing about me to Matador and in front of all those other shu?" she asked, her face blank.

"Why did I say what?" He said rather irritably folding his arms and looking at her. That encounter had been long forgotten and he remembered little other than his treatment.
He lookind into her eyes and was rather suprised to see a new emptiness behind them. Well, he thought. It was her own fault. She was the one that dissapeared.

"Why would you tell him how insatiable I am? Do you even realize of what such a word implies? Did you even stop to think that maybe... that was something that should remain between us? That it would be something that I would only ever give to you?" she asked, the tiniest hint of emotion flickering across her eyes to leave emptiness in its wake. She merely wanted to know why he would say something so loaded. Was it because she had been part of an intricate plan to play her for the fool she had once been, or was it purely because he had not been thinking? She knew nothing more would come of this than maybe some pocket change and a little peace of mind.

Mecca frowned at all she was saying and flexed his wings. That had certainly caught him off guard. He thought backl to that day and the words that had come tumbling from his mouth.
"I ... " He paused and looked at her again. His wings twitching for a moment. "I went to get him to talk to you. I was polite and civil to him and all he did was treat me like I was not even worthy to be alive. I wanted him to know what he was missing. What an idiot he was for not wanting you. And maybe I wanted to make him angry. Maybe I didn't want him to come for you." He kept his lifeless eyes on hers and stepped away from her. "I did not know you would find out, or find it so offensive. I do not believe insatiabele is a bad thing."

Covet swallowed hard and held the statue out to him again. Well... that was what she had wanted to know, but it definitely had not been the answer she had expected. She knew there was no hope of repairing the damage that had been done and she could feel the emptiness start to swallow her completely.
"Maybe it isn't. But others think it is," she said softly. "How much?" she repeated, maintaining the blank expression as she waited for him to take the statue.

"What do other's matter Covet?" He asked turning to walk back over to his books. "I know you may not believe me, but I did not mean to hurt you with what I said." He gave a bitter smirk and traced his finger down the spine of a leather bound volume. "But what did finding out matter once you had your hero to bring you home."

"I believe you, but what difference does it make? You won't forgive me," she said, stepping closer to the table and setting the statue down again. "And I was home. But I left because I was angry and hurt and childish. I broke my promise to you because I could not see how much you meant to me, and I wish..." she stopped suddenly, a surge of emotion suddenly filling the emptiness. Looking away she clenched her fists by her sides. "Well... it doesn't matter now what I wish. You may have the statue. As I have said, I have no use for it."

"Forgive you?" He said as if the concept was completely alien to him. "You wouldn't be standing here now if I did not want to speak you." He turned back and advanced on her, stopping just short of where she was stood. "What do you wish?" He asked looking down at her.
He had planned this moment. Planned how he would drive her out when he next saw her. Now she was here however, he did not want to. "Tell me what you wish?"
