Polls are closed and the people have spoken.
The theme for June month will be delayed five days until the Tony Awards. The theme will be either "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "Spamalot," "Light in the Piazza," or "Spelling Bee."

I don't think it should be anything on the nomination list. I think the winner of the tony awards should be our july theme. I think this month's theme should be something not on Broadway right now. It could be a long lasting show like A Chorus Line or something like that.

In that case, vote the second choice and name a few shows. What about... a CLASSIC Tony award winner? I'd like to see something Tony Award Oriented since this is the biggest time of year for Broadway.

Well, how about making the theme Hello, Dolly? I mean, it was previously the holder of the most Tony Awards, until The Producers broke the record.

Being the kind of guy I am, I have to suggest something different. Instead of nominating certain shows, I think I'll suggest nominating people attached to some of the shows instead.
I nominate James Lapine and Mike Nichols. Lapine has written and directed several musicals. Mike Nichols is a well known director and was an actor, or at least a member of a comedy group. I also nominate William Finn and Craig Lucas. They've both written other plays, Finn is well known for his musicals and Lucas is a playwright.
honestly, out of the nominations: James Lapine, Mike Nichols, William Finn, and Craig Lucas, I really only know and like Lapine's work.

Sernin- No offence, but I feel that is better off if the theme is a show because more people would be inclined to recognize a show then a playwright.
Example... I have heard of Hello Dolly like Pensive nominated, but I have NEVER heard of a single one of those people you named.
Maybe in time when we are running low on shows, a well known person could be a theme, but until them I think that we should stick to shows.
Still, there are no rules against it, so if others like your idea, then so be it. I am just saying that I PERSONALLY would not vote for any of those people cus I don't even know who they are.

James Lapine, who is nominated for directing the Spelling Bee, directed and wrote of the books to Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park With George. William Finn, wrote the score to the Spelling Bee, Falsettos, and In Trousers. Craig Lucas, who is nominated for Piazza, also wrote Reckless and Prelude to a Kiss and was in the company of Sweeney Todd. Mike Nichols, who is nominated for directing Spamalot has directed a lot of stuff including Death and the Maiden, Social Security, and The Real Thing; he directed and produced Annie and The Gin Game, and produced among other things Whoopi, Passions, and the revival of Into the Woods. I just nominated the above because they're the more known of this year's nominees for the Tony award.

Sernin, I also think we should keep the theme as shows. Although I like your idea, we have to remember that this show is for everybody interested in theatre, and a show, which includes tons of people and positions, is the broadest 'group' that would represent everyone in the guild (techies, actors, audience members, etc.).
I don't think we should have the Tony winner as our theme, because we didn't vote on the winner. However, I think it would be neat to vote between the nominees only for the theme, and make them the Tony Award winner for the guild. Or something like that.

That one never crossed my mind. Should I add that to the poll?

Then in the spirit of being different (and I freely admit it, a pain in the neck) might I also nominate the following plays? Musicals aren't the only theatre people do. Far more plays have been made into movies, I think, than musicals because of the expense of making them. and three of these plays are damned good. I only know the revivals.
Democracy Doubt Gem of the Ocean The Pillowman Glengarry Glen Ross On Golden Pond Twelve Angry Men Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

I don't see any reason why a play can't be nominated ^_^

I don't know about you all, but I'm not really a fan of a lot of the shows up for Best Musical this year. I see Spamalot winning, honestly it wouldn't break my heart if it didn't. I'm not too big a fan of the storyline in Brooklyn, though some of the songs are beautiful and the costuming was absolutely brilliant.
Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing a Gilbert and Sullivan, or even a lesser known Broadway show up as the theme this month.
I'd suggest "Tick Tick Boom" or "Beyond Therapy" for the less famous Broadway, but as for, G&B, my biased favorite is "The Pirates of Penzance".

If it's G&S, I definitely suggest Iolanthe, or The Yeoman of the Guard!

sad_loved_girl I'm not too big a fan of the storyline in Brooklyn, though some of the songs are beautiful and the costuming was absolutely brilliant. Brooklyn is not one of the nominated shows. As for the theme, the people seem to have spoken, but even so I will wait until midnight to offical close the poll, but "Wait for Tony Winner" is currently in the lead by three votes. There is still Dispatch's idea of have a guild vote for OUR pick for the winner. Would people like that idea?
